This topic came up on cosplay.com...

[Poll #1187121]
I'm interested in to see what your guys opinion is because the way I look at it, Lulu's hair is black and nothing more but some morons on cosplay.com thinks it's dark brown: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=147188 .The nice easy way for me to remember it is that Lulu is black, Suzaku's hair is brown. Simple, ne? What's your opinion?

Okay, these people are clearly neglecting the fact that anime ≠ real life. (And from cosplay.com, why does that not surprise me?)

It's very difficult to shade black hair in an art style that uses black line. Using dark shades of grey as a "black" color makes everything look desaturated, and you can't use a solid #000000 black because the detail in cel-shaded art is achieved 90% of the time through line, and the rest of the time through highlights. So excuse Sunrise for wanting the details of their protagonist's hair to be, y'know, actually visible and choosing to go with a purplish/redish "black" some of the time.

His hair is obviously supposed to be black, or if not then very, very close to it. =_=;

Lulu's hair is black.

What the Hell?

Saying Lulu's hair is brown "because of the highlights" is like saying my hair is blond.

And I look like Suzaku grew boobies IRL. >.> (Seriously, I even have his hair, right down to the length).

So, I say it is black,end of story.

This is as bad as the Matt-hair on Death Note, which is BROWN.
Lelouch is black. End of.
Gel plus dark brown = black.

[identity profile] ryans-cupcake.livejournal.com 2008-05-13 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
it's either black. or Really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really dark purple.

I can't see it being brown, because the black adds to Lelouch's theme as the black chess set.

It's dark brown. I really think it is.

Dark purple? Whoever said that: That's his hair, buddy XD

Thanks for calling me a moron. << Jerk.

In my opinion, there's no way that Lulu's hair is a pure black. No way. Not in a wig sense, at any rate. I was debating between black and dark brown, and in the art during the credits, it is very clearly a medium brown. The official I-Doll says black (I own the Lulu I-Doll), the official cellphone strap says brown (I own the Lulu/Zero cape cellphone strap).

And going back to the ending credit pics, it made sense to me that, considering even what's supposed to be true black is lightened, Lulu's hair would be a brown bordering on black. But not black itself.

People have differing opinions. Live with it.

I said black, BUT

http://www.geass.jp/world_03.html

Here in his small portrait it looks dark brown... especially if you look at the little Japanese girl who thinks she's gonna marry him (bottom left in the red characters).

I think it depends on who did the coloring... meh.

black. that's sure.

black... purple/black

[identity profile] wolfkat4.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Normally I'd say black... but knowing Clamp's Characters and how much they like to play with highlights/ lighting and coloring. I really have to say Black with Purple highlights or so. Just because they like to play like that. Really it only shows up in thier art things... so *shrug* Black's more than not the answer.

No matter what it is, it's awfully classless of you to bring an argument from another website over here just to prove yourself "right" and take potshots at the people who disagree with you.

[identity profile] x-drear-x.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definately black, but there's a rule when you're coloring things that are black to never use *black* itself, unless your working in greyscale, it's better to use a very dark colour such as brown or purple instead of say, grey. But in 3D, if you look at figures they don't have to do this because there's a real lightsource, so it's black!

Aha, I see this was cleared up ages ago xD;

Lulu's hair color is now obvious to all, and that color is "you're an asshat".
