Need help understanding Code please

Hi I'm new to this and Code Gleass and I were wondering if anyone can help me understand. There were to the best of my knowledge 25 eps yet there are 3 limited edition box sets and I do not understand why 3? What is the best way to get into the series? Do I but the box sets or the DVDs?
