Watching the dub even now, i still greatly prefer the sub. The voices just fit better, and Lelouch just isn't Lelouch without Fukuyama's theatrical projection. There's just too many solid performers in the original (including The Voice of Evil himself as the Emperor). The dub's certainly got it's high points (Shirley, Cornellia, Orange, Lloyd), as well as low points (most of the female cast, particularly a very blah C.C.),but it still suffers from the usual drawbacks of the word fit system and some wonky casting. It's not a bad dub by any stretch, but it can't compare.

Also, the argument that todays dubs are better by default compared to late 80s/early 90s dubbing needs to die. Thanks to Funi, a lot new dubs are getting just as inaccurate (they take liberties everywhere, and you have craptastic opuses of "We don't give a damn about artistic integrity" in the likes of the works of Stephen Foster and stuff like the overly localized Shin-chan), we still have bad casting, and plenty of current actors phone in performances. Some of the liveliest dubs out there were from the early 90s (though there is plenty of crap like the Eva and Nadesico dubs, though ADV never could dub well in the beginning).
