Shirley of the vanishing skirt

I can't be the only one who noticed this in R2 episode 3.

Shirley's not wearing a skirt in this shot! Someone forgot to draw it in! You see her underwear and what's even more funny you see Milly standing right next to her in a skirt. Also, since it's a scene from the first season does anyone know if it's a frame they lifted from season one's footage and if she's not wearing a skirt in the original scene or did they redraw this scene from scratch for season 2? Either way, it's a pretty hilarious mistake.

Edit: Ah I see, I couldn't remember when those clips were from. It was just really weird watching them flash by in the episode and having to do a double take when I suddenly see her without a skirt.

and fanservice, don't forget the fanservice ;) for the guys, at least.

A one-piece bathing suit counts as fanservice for guys? I thought they were only interested in string bikinis?

[identity profile] keikain.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
iirc, school swimsuits are a fetish for some?

[identity profile] wishmasterfuuma.livejournal.com 2008-04-20 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And I'm sure credit cards are a fetish for others. It only counts if it doesn't have to be a fetish to be hot. Oo... You can understand why, yes?

('Cause thinkin' that way, Lulu and Suzaku are men in uniforms, and...)

XD You have a point there, but it's Shirley in a bathing suit-- you know, all wet and with her huge boobs, and if they're going for realism, they can't really put the swim & dive team in string bikinis.

[identity profile] wishmasterfuuma.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
They struck out for realism when they gave athletes big chests in the first place, methinks.

Don't mind me~ I'm just feminist. Just yesterday we had a nice discussion in figure drawing about the use of the female figure for certain messages. It angers me to see women blatantly used for sex or as unimportant. It's men's turn, damnit! (C'mon, Lulu!)

Yeah. That's probably the thing that bugs me the most about this series-- the blatant... guy fanservice... -_-;; The girls' boobs are waaay too big, they bounce around annoyingly, Karen in a bunny suit was just... demoralizing, and the pics or her and CC from behind bug the hell out of me. :( The only woman with zip body endowment is lesbian... of course, she creeps me out completely anyway but... still.

Thank you. ^_^ Real men wear pink?

I didn't mind the bunny suit, because it fit into the plot. But I did mind everyone's comments about it, pointing it out and making it demoralizing when it could have ended with her being a kick-ass bunneh putting her heel in a guy's head.

It's hard to find a picture of CC I don't dislike. I'm not really sure if she's the whore or if the animators need a leash to hold them back, 'cause again and again she's depicted in too little clothing, as a submissive figure, with a hand on her ass. Why can't we have a hand on Lulu's ass, huh? What's wrong with that? (Better yet, Suzaku's. The boy wears tight enough pants. Oo...) CC seems more dominant than that, and yet she's always the submissive one in pictures. Wtf? No excuse.

Your statement's untrue, if you mean Milly or Nina, which are the only two lesbians I can think of. Unless you're taking liberties with Cecile, but I digress. Both were in the bath picture drama, naked as the rest of them.

[identity profile] animegoil.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I was speaking of Nina, cause I'd forgotten about Milly... mainly cause I don't so much see Milly as lesbian as just rather casual with whom she teases. In fact, are either her or Cecile's sexuality actually stated? I would be so amused if Millay was really a lesbian XD And, I mean in comparison to the rest, Nina's not really all that pretty or well-endowed. She's flat and 'cute' (she creeps me out too much for me to really call her that) and doesn't flaunt her body around the way the other girls do, intentionally or not (the animators obviously have a big hand in that). Her hips are big, but that's just the art style.

And I don't pay much attention to the official pics, though maybe I should because Lulu always looks good ^_^ But I have noticed some of that CC trend. And I think it's a shame too, because like you said, CC is much dominant than that. I can't see her letting some guy put a hand on her butt just like that. The blatantness of a lot of the girls' depictions frustrate me.

Yeah. That's probably the thing that bugs me the most about this series-- the blatant... guy fanservice... -_-;;

I'll note right now, I don't look at much official art beyond the odd Lelouch here or there, so my opinions are just from the shows...

But there IS an equal amount of fanservice, really. Yes the girls have skimpier clothing but that's not exactly shocking considering their character designers. CLAMP has a thing about skimpy outfits for their females while the males are more fully clothed, yet the clothing accents both forms beautifully. The animators just rather...ran with it.

Lelouch's uniforms (school and Zero) are beautifully done to highlight his body while keeping him rather...closed-up which is his character.

Suzaku's uniforms are tailored to his job, with his flight suit being rather nice on the eyes (I still can't figure out how he wears it without a suffering 'creeping underwear'...or considering he's probably not wearing any 'creeping flight suit'. Not to mention his lovely shirtless appearance that made me forget it was a serious scene.

The rest of the boys...well, what can I say? They need to be out of uniform more but damn do they look good in it. *grins*

The girls' boobs are waaay too big, they bounce around annoyingly, Karen in a bunny suit was just... demoralizing, and the pics or her and CC from behind bug the hell out of me.

I have no comments on their breasts as it's a trend in anime, I've seen worse and I'm rather happy with their size, both ascetically and as a female.

I do find some of the gratuitous as shots of Kallen aggravating , I know it's the position of her Knightmare, but we don't see the others from that angle (which I mourned at the first inside shots of Gwaine(?) - Zero's Knightmare, though the two seater style did lead for some nice images of CC and Lelouch).

The rest of their costumes, as I said above, was based on the designs of a circle known to have skimpy yet fun outfits for their girls. I can't say I blame them either, the girls have nice bodies, both in their revealing outfits and in their more tailored looks (CC comes to mind here, she pulls off some of those business suits with style!)

As a feminist, I have no problems with the girl's clothing or the way they're portrayed. They're teenagers (well, CC looks like one...and acts like one some of the time), excluding the bunny suit and Sherley's swimsuit they seem to enjoy what they wear and wear it well.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with everything you've said. It's truly something that's quite common, which means it's something that bugs me out of most series, not just this one, but mainly just to the point of rolling my eyes and saying there it goes again. At least the girls all are very strong characters, which makes me happy.

For some reason it bugs me more in the official art-- I just don't really want to have a picture of CC with Lulu gripping her enormous butt. *shrug*
