Season 1 Ponderings

So, I'm watching Season 1 over again, starting with Stage 1 and noticed something very odd right from the getgo. That odd thing happening to be this:

This cap comes from a mere 10 seconds into the episode. And, at first glance, it looks like a regular insect. But if you actually look at it (which I did when I randomly paused on this scene), it doesn't look... well... natural. In fact, it looks rather mechanical.

Did anyone else notice this? And if so, what are your thoughts? My theory is that it's some sort or bugging device (excuse the pun), or something of that nature. Especially since it seems that in the very first scene that C.C. is watching Lelouch. But is it "watching" her, Lelouch, or Suzaku?

What are your thoughts?

[EDIT:] I know it's a Cicada (lol, higurashi), but having never seen the front view of a the Tanna Japonensis, or Japanese Cicada, I was confused. I still think it looks vaguely mechanical

That being said, since the cicada is often symbolic in many ways, how do you think it applies to Code Geass?

My friend's an Entomologist I could ask him later. But I think it's just a Cicada.

well even so, even if it's not mechanical, it could be symbolic. Cicadas are very archetypal.

The one that comes to mind is a Higurashi, The whole singing at the beginning seems to be a frequented sound of that. When I first watched Code Geass I was excepting Rena to appear out of nowhere and yell out USODA in the first episode.

But on a more serious note, cicadas appear at the end of summer, so maybe this cicada is signifying the end--the end of the time before Lulu's rebellion. The end of "peace" (in quotes because it wasn't exactly peacful, what with all the torment the Japanese people faced from Britannians).

Lol, I'm just imagining it's mechanical because when Britannia took over the world they took over the bugs and decided to make them robots so that they wouldn't bug the crap out of people.

Crack hypothesis, no one take me seriously please xD
