Question on Geass-verse history

OK, I have a rough idea for a fanfic that I'm tossing around in my head. However, there's a critical point that I need to ask about, because otherwise I'll have to do some research on the Roman Empire. But I digress.

The question: was there a French Revolution or French monarchy in the Geass universe? I'm assuming that continental Europe progressed normally with Britannia's development going independent, and that France was Gaul and probably just populated by Gallic/Germanic tribes before the Roman Empire came around.

Any input or knowledge is appreciated!

Since there was a Napoleon, I'd assume that there would be a French monarchy that preceded him.

I'd say there was no Revolution since they rewrote Franklin as a traitor and sank ours.

yes, I agree with ThoughtfullOrange-san.
French History is supposed to had proceed like our universe untill the battle of Waterloo, that Napoleon wins, and the subsequent invasion of England that forced the Royal Britannian family to flew to America (still a colony of them).

researc!fics are quite a lovely rarity, keep it up! ^_-

Only Slightly OT

Speaking of real!world vs Geass!world relationships. . .

This occurred to me when watching the dub back in episode 2 or something that when they were listing the Brittanian monarchy. In the class, the teacher was explaining that after Queen Elizabeth II died, Harry became the Emperor. Harry was followed by Charles. Assuming the timelines are similar (since the Geass!world is near future):

Did Harry usurp the throne from his dad or what?

Yes, they were French Kings XD Too many French Kings, ONLY French kings, from 476 to 1789-1793, so no worries, you've got plenty ^_^

There WAS a French Revolution ; Otherwise there wouldn't be any Napoleon. With Napoleon was born a new kind of nobility, different from the one during the Absolute Monarchy. It is hard to imagine what would have happened had Napoleon won Waterloo, but my guess would be that the Empire survived until the 1870's war between France and Prussia/Germany, because well, we lost XD And this war had led to the fall of the 2nd Empire anyway.

But we French have a habit of establishing Republics once monarchies have fallen ; so I guess that the situation in Geass-verse would be just the same as it is now : no royalty, no nobility, no nothing.

(sorry for my sleepy bad english.. ^^;) ...queen Elizabeth II you said..? and the teacher said that Harry was followed by Charles...
Well, it just doesn't fit with our timeline, since Charles was Emperor already by the time his son and daughters are born. I don't know the birthday of Odysseus, but if Schneizel and Cornelia are 28 in 2018, they were born in 1990, and by that time, not only Queen Elizabeth II was alive and healty, but Harry was 6.

So it could be that:

a) the Queen Elizabeth II they talk about is not the Queen of England (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of Windsor) but another Elizabeth that happened to be the 96th Emperor of Britannia before Emperor Harry (97th) and Emperor Charles (96th) and the name is just evocative

b) the relation between Britannian Imperial Family and the dinasty of Windsor-Hannover makes no sense at all, since the history of England and of his monarchy was altered in first place, as there has been no roman domination, and consequently not saxons, or William the Conqueror and all that jazz... moreover, Geass is a really ancient power, oftenly called 'the power of the king', we know that the Celtics used it agains Caesar, but has it being inherited through a single lineage of monarchs for two thousand years, or has it being passed over to the conquerors by the conquered..? no data.

c) We're not told what happened to England after the french invasion in the nineteen century anyway, but it might equally be that the british isles are part of France (republic or monarchy or whatever) or indipendent countries.. all we know is that there are no longer under britannian domination. So there might exist still a Queen Elizabeth II of Windsor, but unrelated to the imperial family.

d) the writer screwed it badly XD

On the other hand, American revolution did happened, but geassed!Franklin betrayal allowed the restoration of Britannian domination. It was enough to fuel the French revolution anyway, I guess..

the best way to understand geass history is to disregard everything we learned in our history classrooms and focus on geass facts, XD.
