Why does fandom seem to hate Suzaku?

I have been nosing through the fandom for some time and I couldn't help but notice the rampant Suzaku hatred. So, I decided to find out why this seemed to be the case.

'Hypocrite' seemed to be the biggest complaint, but (and yes, I am a Lulu fangirl as well before you kill me) Lelouch is one, too. So I was wondering just what made Suzaku seem to be such a target of ire.

I don't really Suzaku but I don't love him either. In the past episodes he's really gotten a plus on my side. In the beginning he was kind of boring to me. :/ I also disliked how everyone in this fandom believes Lelouch and Suzaku are OTP canon and bashed all the other characters.

I'm cheering on the side for Suzu/Euphie. *waves flag*

Anyway, it's always going to be like this in any fandom. Suzaku haters, Shirley haters, Mao haters, etc. :/

Suzaku x Euphemia is my ultimate otp and I'm quite scary about it xD;

I just find it sad it seems to be such a rampant thing when it was obvious there was something driving his obsession to save everyone, even if we now know the answer as to why.

There are very few characters I do not like in this series and Suzaku, being one of my favourites it saddened me to see him the target of so much hate.

Shirley is one of my favorites and she gets tons of hatred because ohnoes, she kissed Lelouch. Ohnoes, she has a crush on Lelouch. People make it sound like it's such a horrible ordeal, as if she's manipulating Lelouch or something. She was kind of bland in the beginning but I really love how the writers entwined her father's death and her crush on Lelouch into the plot. I'm glad they made her feelings for Lelouch more mature and handled her situation well (even if it saddened my Lulu/Shirley fandom). 8D

I'm less keen on Shirley but I like where they have taken her. I found her a little too stereotypical at first but she is growing in my estimation recently.

The fact she kissed Lelouch doesn't bother me at all only the lack of SuzakuxEuphie smoochies bothers me xD as it was an important part of the plot and did a lot for development.

Seems this board is fond of Suzaku, which makes me happy as most of the others I've seen are heavily anti-Suzaku.

I personally feel that Suzaku's sheer mind-numbing abilities are being shown for the simple purpose of setting him up to go versus Lelouch in the end. We already know Lelouch is much more intellectual than Suzaku, so Suzaku needs the brawn/speed factor to balance it out and they're highlighting it so that it doesn't come out of the blue. It also explains how he can pilot the Lancelot so effectively.

It's amusing really. Anyone can tell that she loves her father, and when her father died, it was definitely a big blow for her. Why would a girl like her USE HER FATHER'S DEATH LAWLAWL THAT EVILWITCH!!!111 to get what she want? Geez. Some people just REFUSE to admit that she might not been acting and thinking rationally then, and insist on using MANIPULATION as a reason.
And why put all the blame on Shirley? Lelouch had a part in returning that kiss. It wasn't as if he was forced at gunpoint to do it.

I noticed on other boards, too, the hate for Suzaku. Personally, I can see the reason why, but I don't follow it. He amuses me sometimes. :]

I know, even in real life people do that sometimes. I've come across people who needed comfort in the past because something had happened and okay, sure one or two had feelings toward me but I highly doubt they were using their problem to make me feel sympathetic towards them.

Exactly, when something drastic happens, you can't always expect people to think properly. Shirley was pretty much living the good life, you know. She's pretty, rich (I suspect she's from a well-to-do family), has great friends and she's just a teen.

Damn, I need some Shirley icons.

I actually like Suzaku's character. Even though he is kind of bland, I like his good nature and his kindness. Though I understand how people dislike his character because he's too boring and seems too perfect, but I like his screw up past. Ever since I watch that picture drama, my liking to him grew.

*annoyingly butts in* Same here. I found her really annoyingly stereotypical at first, but the whole plot there with the kiss was very developing and I like Lelouch's development from that. XD I like her now.

Thank you for asking this!! I've been wondering about the ZOMGSUZAKU IS JUST AN IMATAUR KIDDO LMAOLMAO hate as well. It irks me really, when people go on forums and proclaim that they want to watch Suzaku die slowly and painfully. Then after a few episodes, they start saying that he's screwed up etc. Like they've never been a hypocrite a single day in their lives or not screwed up themselves. ._.

Mainly the complain is that Suzaku's viewpoint is too narrow, and his thinking too naive, simply because he believes that he can change the system from within. But these people can actually find new reasons to hate him with every single episode. One hand, they're saying that URGH he thinks he's Kira Yamato, lookit him struggle as he protect the people mwahaha sucker. And on the other hand, after another episode, they say WTF he just went in and didn't give a damn whether he'd kill these people whatta heartless Eleven. >_>";;;

Other people complain about him being too KIRAYAMATO godly. I have no opinions on that because frankly, I do dislike a certain character for being too perfect as well. X)

Its been something thats bugged me for a while, so I figured it was about time I posed the question.

It just seems people need to justify their hatred for him and other characters, I dunno why personally.

The recap ep was really what spurred me to ask this as people went crazy on some boards about it being so Suzaku-centric but I found it nice.

Same, especially as when we go back and rewatch ep2 and Lloyd showed him the watch that saved his life and the way he looked at it. So many more layers to it now.
