India?

So...I have a weird question. In the alternate history of Code Geass, did India ever get colonized? What is the political standing of India in the show anyway? They're part of the Chinese Federation, but they want out...? Also, is Rakshata the only Indian character we see on the show?

Thanks for being patient with me. It's when I ask questions like this that I realize how much I still don't understand the inner workings of Code Geass...

I'm guessing...

India never got colonized because Britannia got kicked out of Britain by Napoleon and had to conquer North and South America.

But Britain already ruled a great deal of India by Napoleon's time, historically.

...of course, historically Britain wasn't a celtic kingdom that fought off the Romans either, or whatever it is in Geass.

Of course nothing is set in stone, but having lost the "momeland," it seems that Britannia lost all influence in the Eastern Hemisphere. Apparently of most colonies by Code Geass' time were a result of Charles.

In before imperial Chinese Federation?

I'm assuming though that Britannia at one time held India, because that is where Rakshata is from, and she's an ex-Britannian Scientist...

I just thought Rakshata was an international student abroad.

I guess, but I don't see how that would be overly viable in Britannian Society, especially with the whole "Britannia vs Non-Britannia" Rights. It wasn't really explained, so I assumed that since most of History stayed the same [We see WWI, etc] that Britannia held India, and eventually lost it the same way.

Just that India then joined the Chinese Feds.

However that controversy was just to demonstrate the plight of Numbers against evil Britannia, it wouldn't work in international arena and that the world was shared between Britannia, the European Union, and the Chinese Federation. Great students should go where they want to go.

I don't see why India has to be lost so suddenly within Rakshata's lifetime since it's really demanding in something we don't have, but the closest I can come to is that it could have been taken over when Charles killed the previous Emperor.

Unfortunately, we'll never know. But we must keep reaching out to the truth.

The age of colonialism still happened, I think, as the American colonies still existed.

However, given that the Britannians got kicked out of England, I wouldn't be surprised if late 18th century Britannia was considerably weaker than late 18th century England, and that weakness would be evident in its overseas territorial holdings, as well. So my best guess is that Britannia had India but lost it in the course of events to China due to its internal weakness.

As it stands, India is part of China but wants out. And Raksharta also brought her posse of Indian engineers with her in S1.

As a general history note, remember that the Tudors still existed, so I'm guessing that Britannian history between the Norman invasion and Henry VIII was still largely the same. However, it's safe to say that the English Civil War never happened, and the existence of the Stuart and Hanoverian/Windsor monarchs are doubtful.

Isn't it great that with all the alternate histories at work here, the Tudors still managed to rule because they're that badass!

Sorry, Tudor history freak here

Personally, I think the Chinese Federation didn't grow to be that big through direct conquest like Britannia did. That's because nobody cared to revolt against the eunuchs before R2. Ergo, I'm guessing that India was annexed to China some time before season one in exchange for something else (think: benevolent assimilation). So the Chinese Federation (note use of the term "federation", denoting some sort of cooperative entity).

Just placing my two cents on the line here.
