Lelouch and Suzaku: Mutuality Cover Cosplays

Some construction notes:

Both costumes were constructed in a three-week timeframe before Anime North 2009 and debuted at the masquerade. We won Best Detailing in the Journeyman division. Everything other than the pants, footwear and dress shirts were self-made, with some help from each other. Both my cape and jacket are fully lined in duchess satin. The black parts are made of stretch twill. All gold detailing is made from metallic spandex; most of the applique was done with heat-and-bond. My cuffs are made of red taffeta. My red "wings" were handpainted in acrylics. Suzaku's gold designs are done in acrylics, and the blue wings were done in oil pastels. sew_creative drafted the patterns for the jacket and vest herself. Her wig in these photos is a backup - she had a perfect one that was commissioned, but it got lost during the convention, unfortunately.

Random facts: my costume weighs 15 pounds in total, and an extra two people can easily hide under my cape. :>

This was a huge challenge, but we were very happy to have brought this beautiful artbook cover to life. Special thanks to the photographer Zero for the photos, and the_major for styling my wig.

Thanks so much! I wasn't able to start until my exams ended in late April last year (Anime North is late May), so I had to hit the ground running. I'm just so happy we were able to pull it off in the end.

Wow I Can work that fast but I normally do alot of swearing and screaming in the process. They are very well done. So I you made them yourselves then?

Thank you. Yep, with the exception of the pants, dress shirts and footwear, they were self-made. My wig was styled by a friend.

Wow how much fabric did you end up using? I am asuming you drafted e pattern?

I modified a Simplicity Project Runway pattern (2810) for the jacket and another pattern for the cape (don't recall which one it was). I probably used about 11 metres of black twill and five or six metres of duchess satin. The cape is a semi-circle, probably more than eight feet in diameter.

oh my! wow lol I had a tight deadline I had to make a full length gown for a play being preformed by my friend. it was absolute macbeth and I had two weeks to make it plus I only had two fitting plus twentyish minutes before she went on stage to finish it... Ugh lots and lots of swearing was done. Plus the one day I ordered some fabric a black roll they sent me white. But that's awesome your turn out was great.

Oh man, that sounds rough. Are you a theatre major? Got any pictures of the gown?

I know the feeling of being crammed for time. We got really stressed towards the end and had to finish some things in the hotel room. My partner's oil pastels took a while to dry, so she had to cling-wrap the wings and finish them in the hotel room. (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2092733/) Fortunately I've never ended up with the wrong kind of fabric - I can imagine how frustrating that would be.

My 2 cents:

I draped and drafted both my jacket and coat. I helped Angathol with changing the pattern to allow for the gold. I self-lined both the jacket and coat. I would say that the drafting / draping time overall was roughly 4-5 hours total. (Though I spread it out over time since I still had my Fashion classes to finish up). Over all I think they turned out nicely.
