Spoiler poll

A simple question.

[Poll #1185469]

Feel free to explain your choice in the comments. I'm especially curious as to why people read spoilers.

Personally, I avoid [Geass] spoilers whenever possible. (LJ-cuts, yay?) I think Geass is one of those series that can be so unpredictable that the suspense is half the fun. That said, I don't want to know what happens ahead of time cuz that, well, spoils it.

PS No posting [possible] spoilers in the comments, ya?

Hm, I actually feel that Code Geass is amusingly predictable a lot of the time... But I find the antics of the characters are always enough to keep me interested, even if I know certain plot points (plus, spoilers such as summaries usually leave some pretty key things out)

MOSTLY I JUST CAN'T RESIST D:. SPOILERS GET.

[identity profile] austere-flare.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't. It all depends on what I'm looking for.

Most of the time, I just accidentally find spoilers and go all, "HONOES I GOT SPOILED." XD

[identity profile] piccu.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I do sometimes, but I never spoil the last few episodes of a series ^__^

[identity profile] shizuka85.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I read spoilers that come from the magazines and such, but if there's an episode that's out that I haven't seen, I won't read any detailed spoilers until after I watch it.

[identity profile] chunky-bunny.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Uhhh I read spoilers sometimes

Only if I badly wanted more information on the episode D:

[identity profile] sakura-no-miko.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I never understood why people are so bothered by spoilers. As far as I figure, I still get that nice feeling of surprise whether I read the spoiler or see it in the book/.movie/whatever. It's just that the timing is different.

I suppose for some people they need the context.

[identity profile] yamikakyuu.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
For me it depends. Before the season started I avoided everything, including pics. Now that its on Im alittle less since do any of us know really whats gonna happen in the end? Im glad for lj cuts though since sometimes I dont always get to watch the epi right away so when ppl want to discuss it its better.

I was spoiled to what Euphie did at the end of s1 by someone and since then Ive tried to always watch the epis asap so if something like that happens again I wont be going D: before I watch it.

"Only by accident" would be my ideal choice in this poll. For shows I like, I don't want spoilers. I mean, when I watch an anime based on a manga I've read, I find it boring half the time and not as attractive as a totally new show. Discussion is fine and I love seeing if theories are proven true, but no spoilers for me.

[identity profile] kyujong.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I think spoilers make me more excited for new episodes because I read them and then I get hyped and want to see the stuff in action. Plus they never really reveal everything that happens, so it gives me stuff to think about while waiting for the episode to come~ So yes, I read them every chance I get XD!

usually i AVOID AVOID since i hattte getting SPOILED. but sometimes when it's presented often through something i frequent i can't help but check it out. >>

[identity profile] tehsilentone.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I've never been a spoilers person, but with Code Geass it's hard not to be. The waiting is torture! So a little spoiler now and then helps me endure it :P

[identity profile] aeri-s.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, season 1 I read every spoiler. It was actually while watching Gundam 00 last season that I started to go *no* to spoilers XD I stopped wanting to know exactly which of the characters died >_>
But sometimes, I just can't help it =3 Spoilers are yummy~

[identity profile] keikain.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I read every spoiler I can find? I can enjoy a show more when I know what's going to happen. Besides, it's not like you can tell how things are going to happen when you read the spoilers, anyways and that's the real fun of it.

I read all the spoilers, except for maybe the spoilers on final episodes (but sometimes even then I read the spoilers). Why? I don't know....I'm impatient and just want to know what happens? Though I have to say it sometimes does take away from some of the fun. Like the end of episode 5. A lot of people were like "OH SHIT!" but well, it was nothing for me cause I already knew about it for a while from Animesuki. So yeah, that kind of ruined the suspense. This is probably one of the few series where I will likely make the effort not to spoil the final episodes for myself. Though that doesn't mean I won't necessarily read some spoilers...it just means I won't go to Animesuki or Omni's site on the day the show airs until I've seen it.

[identity profile] pinao88.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Depends. When the ending of episode 3 was leaked, I downloaded it immediately because I knew there was no way I could avoid people discussing it for, what, 6 days? I knew if I didn't watch it myself, someone else was going to bring it up and I'd be spoiled anyway. "Better to kill yourself than be murdered!"

During season 1, I avoided Geass spoilers of any kind like the plague. I waited on subs for every episode and wouldn't even consider watching a raw. The only time I read summaries was after watching the episode to make sure I didn't miss anything. Mind you, I considered Code Geass a serious, intelligent drama at this time.

Now I watch raws and read magazine "spoilers." I don't really count most of the stuff in magazines as spoilers because they don't reveal any key plot points. A real spoiler is "____ DIES" or a detailed summary; something that really affects your enjoyment of the episode. Minor spoilers are fine and add to the fun.

[identity profile] purple-crayon.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I try to avoid leaks and spoilers. I have to agree with you that I like the thrill and surprise of watching the episodes week to week. Sure, the waiting is torture, but it's something that (for me) makes watching the episode more fun!

[identity profile] ipsius.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I read tons of spoilers before I start a series, because I like to anticipate what's going to happen. Having things to look forward to is the enjoyable part of the whole thing for me. I really can't stand suspense, especially if I'm not sure I trust the story to deliver. (I think the Euphemia incident would have killed me if I hadn't prepared myself for it beforehand. >_>)

Once I get into a series, it depends on my mood. XD But generally I like spoilers.

[identity profile] shin-gokuda.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes. That depends. I'm not Bilingual (Like you can see lol) I doesn't understand all the spoilers, therefore sometimes I read. Otherwise I will not read...I prefer be surprised...

[identity profile] nekroskoma.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
sometimes the spoilers don't really spoil anything due to their vagueness

[identity profile] rkold.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I generally try my best to avoid them, but will occasionally look at anime scans from Newtype/Animedia/Animage/Pash which are shared and those are often full of unintentional spoilers. That's how I found out a bit about Gino.

I've also gotten spoiled a few times by people's LJ icons ~.~ I've gotten behind an episode or 2 or not watched the newest episode within 24 hours and then gone to check the comm and seen people either posting their newest creations with the teaser icons being full of spoilers *cough*Machinegun!Euphie*cough* or seen people just use them in making posts. It's a bit galling, but there is not much one can do. *shrugs*

[identity profile] sinspire.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I always check out stuff like coming characters and such, but usually like to stay away from big plot bunnies. But I'll stay 100 feet away from any spoilers when the series/season is coming to a close. ♥

[identity profile] mossygirl.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
For most series, I tend to avoid spoilers, unless there's something I have a "feeling" about and I want to confirm that (as in, if there's an existing manga, etc.). But for Geass ... I read them every chance I get ^^; I guess it's something like, if someone knows it, I want to know it too? I don't know why exactly CG is different, but I do know that even if I've been spoiled on things, I'll still find the episodes enjoyable, so I guess that's part of it ^^

[identity profile] faceup.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I used to read spoilers for many manga series, but after a while I stopped because I found it made the series less enjoyable and exciting. Nowadays I don't much care for spoilers; I'm perfectly content with waiting. It's not as though I go "SPOILER! AHH! STAY AWAY!!", more like "Spoiler, bleh. I can wait for the new chapter/episode." If I accidentally get spoiled I don't care too much, unless it's something huge like the main character dying...then I go insane. (but who wouldn't? 8D)

[identity profile] saverellawish.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I thrive off spoilers mainly because I have no life..... I don't mind them really because I enjoy what leads up to the spoiler just as much as what was spoiled. Plus, Geass is like my main series at the moment. I love it, and I love getting spoilers to guess what happens. It keeps my mind stimulated, I guess is a good way of putting it, not to mention I'm off half the time anyway, so I still get the surprise factor XD

I usually avoid spoilers otherwise. No, not avoid, for series not like Geass, lets say Hitman Reborn, its either predictable enough, or not addicting enough as other series therefore spoilers just seem pointless. Geass is just too amazing, and addicting to pass up anything that comes along.

I drive my friend crazy by reading the last few pages of books, while I'm only at the beginning or half way through. Another reason I'm ok with doing this, is because it makes me excited to get through what I'm reading to find out what was really happening in those last few pages. Not to mention my reaction and opinion to those last few pages usually changes once I have the full story, so theres still excitement and surprise. I use this same philosophy with anime and manga usually.

Yes, I play mind games with myself XD

[identity profile] pochisu.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
yeah...
everytime i get a chance, i read a spoiler...
code geass is unpredictable, really.

So, reading spoilers is nice~♥
haha~

[identity profile] yukiruchan.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I read all the spoilers I can find *before* the episode has been aired, but *after* that I avoid them like the plague, until I've watched the episode for myself. It's different between spoilers that are confirmed and unconfirmed.

As for summaries of future episodes, I think they add to the fun because you get some wind of the new episode beforehand & you get to speculate. Then when you watch the episode, you get to see how it turns out. Usually Code Geass surprises me anyway.

Of'corse a real spoiler like someone had watched the episode first and told me the actual events, I'd get pretty pissed off.

Exception for R2 Turn 1 - which was like I really couldn't wait.

[identity profile] faye-naruse.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
I try to resist, but...it's really hard >.

[identity profile] pochisu.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
yea. Agreed.
spoilers are just too great.

[identity profile] summer-birds.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
I try to avoid spoilers as well and absolutely agree with you:) But I read sometimes them, very seldom when the spoiler come cross along with a pictures :) Pictures are spoilers as well, but I can do nothing but watch them >.

[identity profile] emifujiwara.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I read spoilers, sometimes I don't read them. It's depends, but I'm curious so... resist is very difficult for me.
For the season 1, I haven't read any spoiler. But for the R2, It's different.
However, when I read a spoiler, I'm more impatient to see the episode, so I think it's good because I enjoy the episode a little more.
Moreover I think Code Geass is unpredictable so spoilers aren't so bad.

[identity profile] jczala.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes only... When I'm really excited about an episode, I don't read spoilers. But if I really want to know what happens next then I read them. It all depends on my mood as well.

[identity profile] kitsune-no-ame.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
>Sometimes

Acutally "some kind" of spoiler
I specifically look out for furage (magazine leaks) and the likes. I get Newtypes &co myself but avoid reading them, but I like to look at future character outfits, sketches etc.
Sometimes I read episode summaries from Newtype, but that's mostly it.

[identity profile] shinigami39.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that I read spoilers for most animes and the reason is the same: I'm too impatient and usually, the suspense/cliffhangers is too much that I just have to know asap XD

Though for Code Geass R2, I try to download the episode asap so I won't have to read spoilers 8D But I still read the spoilers afterwards lol

[identity profile] sapphire-pyro.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I love spoilers because I'm very impatient to know what will happen next xD

And Code Geass is one of the rare anime series that even if you're spoiled with what will happen, it still doesn't cease to amaze/surprise you xD

but I agree that it's more fun to watch when you're not spoiled ^^; but if spoilers are available, I check 'em out at once xD hehe

[identity profile] ladyassassin27.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
My curiosity gets the better of me sometimes, but I mostly avoid spoilers. I like the little suprises that come with each episode, it makes the series more enjoyable, when you don't know what's going to happen.

[identity profile] neltis-screi.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
depends on how curious I am. XD i sometimes not or i sometimes do. i prefer to not read though. *YAY for my patience*

[identity profile] aki-hikari.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, because I want to know what will happen next... ^^;

[identity profile] rainbow-cnxn.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually seek out spoilers wherever I can find it. Maybe it's because Geass is sometimes so outrageously predictable that it doesn't matter if I spoil myself. Maybe it's because Geass is sometimes so outrageously unpredictable that its unpredictability is predictable. Maybe it's because I'm impatient.

But I think now, I'm watching it more for the character interactions than the plot. Spoilers help me brace for surprises ahead of time and start the process on my rationalization of character actions. I want to go into an episode with a basic idea of character motivations and relationship dynamics. I want to try to catch the subtleties of those interactions without being bothered by knee-jerk emotional reactions.

[identity profile] gab-rey.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I picked sometimes.

I try to avoid reading spoilers but sometimes my curiosity gets the best of me and I read/ watch spoilers. For example, when the last part of ep. 3 for R2 was leaked I downloaded it because I just had to know what happened or when new character illustrations are posted I look at them. But sometimes I see spoilers by accident like when I was watching a Code Geass fan intro on youtube what happened in eps. 22-23 was spoiled in the comments section. I was so pissed off since I was barely on episode 8 or 10.

[identity profile] zindesu.livejournal.com 2008-05-11 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Never on Code Geass...but many time get spoiled on other anime series TT__TT!!!
