So, Lelouch

Spoilars for turn 19.

Hi guys. I know, I know, don't worry, I'll shut up in liek, two sex. I just wanted to say a few things about this weeks episode.

So I was sitting in the corner of despair, my legs neatly tucked up against my body, and my chin resting ruefully my knees. Thoughts of suicide ran rampant in my meloncholic throughts. Then suddenly, the salty stream of never ending tears ceased for a split second. I bobbed my head in the air, my eyes widening, green iries clashing strongly with the red that was apparent in the whites, and parted my dry lips to speak, easing my frozen tongue into motion. "What the hell?" I light grimace formed on my tear streaked face.

Well, I found Lelouch's behavior in this turn strange. Why do I say this? Well, think about it.

Lulu haet Rolo.

You're all, "Sooooo?"

So why wasn't he strangling Rolo to death when he stopped him from committing suicide?

I mean, if I was Lelouch (already hating on Rolo and stuff) I would be pissed. Lelouch had no heart for him. He hated him more than everyone besides his father, because he's that little son of a bitch that replaced Nunnally and killed Shirley. Why was he all, "No Rolo, cut it out! Stop using your Geass! DDDDD:>"

It makes no sense.

"Because Nii-san is a liar..."

Why wasn't Lelouch all, "NO YOU MOTHERFUCKER, I HATE YOUR CARAMEL GUTS. >:D"

Didn't he feel that way since turn two?

What took place in Lelouch's heart that could make him kind to the person he hated most? He even buried Rolo. That's like... huge. It takes time, effot (especially for Lelouch, that pansy) and love for the person who died to do something like that. Why did he do such a thing for him? Our lovely, yandere, brothercon shota with feminine thighs. Why?

And why did Lelouch seem to be not-so-psycho over Nunnally? I throught he was going to turn to an unredeemable demon king state -- every single thing he had is gone --, and in the back of your mind, so did you. Geez, he was more upset over Shirley.

Really, I'm a HUUUGEEEE Rolo fag, and it delighted me through the streaming tears that Lelouch would show such love for him. But he didn't have one goddamn motive to. What's up? Has his insanity driven him to a new level? Did he finally see how it was through Rolo's eyes? That desperate need?

Either way, I'm still happy that he showed compassion and forgivness. Rolo, my baby, rest in peace. Thanks Sunrise for letting the Rolo haters down. C:

Now to massacre Sunrise Studios, because no matter what, Rolo's death does not sit well with me at all.

K, Stfu'ing.

Honestly, I found it a bit peculiar, too. Seeing as how his actions completely contradicted what seemed set in stone turns and turns ago. But, this is what I figure went down...

In that turn, everyone is abandoning Lelouch/Zero and worst of all he's lost Nunnally, the person most important to him. Most likely seeing no point to continue on living, he accepts death, but Rolo swoops in and 'saevs teh dey'. I think Lelouch gains a considerable amount of respect for him since he's the only person who stayed by his side no matter what and sacrificed his own life for him.

tl;dr HE WAS AMAZED BY ROLO'S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE WHEN EVERYONE ELSE WAS AN ASSHAT AND DITCHED HIM

But, I could be toooootally wrong, but whatever x]

[identity profile] snoozy.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
He actually says it on the extended preview:
"Rolo, what a weird guy,. He believed and followed me till the end." <-and some other stuff i can't remember, but he is talking about him in the extended preview.
I think he gained a bit of respect for him in the end.

[identity profile] jczala.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Let's not forgot that he even mentioned this. "You're not Lelouch Vi Britannia's brother. You're Lelouch Lamperouge's brother." I was happy with that line.

[identity profile] recodes.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Rolo is, in a way, like Lulu himself. Lulu would kill for Nunnally, just like how Rolo would kill for Lulu. This is to say that if, like you said, he acknowledged the desperation in Rolo's eyes and actions, it may be because he was reminded of him and his desperation to do everything for Nunnally. In the preview, Lulu did mention that even after everything, Rolo was the one who did not abandon him.

EDIT: Let's not forget that even after he thought Suzaku betrayed him, he still trusted Suzaku the most.

I wasn't a big fan of Rolo, and I admit that him killing Shirley was cowardly. But for someone who was born as a killer, further trained and programmed to be a killer, we can't really blame him for thinking of murder each and everytime he feels threatened (or if he feels Lulu is threatened). Programmed beings usually go autopilot when facing threats. I bet Rolo didn't even know what to properly do to get people to shut up, thinking that they would only shut up when they die.

Getting back on the topic of Lelouch and his change of heart. I'm sticking to the thought that he realised that Rolo, even if he did kill Shirley who was important to him, was actually just a kid who feared too much and trusted too much just like Lulu himself was. He recognised that desperation in Rolo's actions as similar to his own. That, or I'm giving Lulu too much credits.

I've been reading too many criminal psychology books...

I thought it was a little odd too. But I think it was because Rolo was, pratically, the only person by Lulu's side now, since Nunnally is gone, the Black Knights (and probably Kallen) betrayed him and CC has no memories. Even after what Lelouch said to him, even after Lulu spent a lot of time plotting how Rolo could die (in the worst way possible), even after Lulu sometimes faked liking him, he still stood by Lulu's side and even died for him. Also, I think sometimes Lulu did worse things to Rolo than to the Black Knights... And guess who betrayed him. :D
So I guess Lelouch wanted to do something good to Rolo, to repay him for the good things he did? Like... for once.
I'm probably wrong. >.>

I find that it is very in character of Lelouch in this episode. Remember, no matter how cold heart and cruel Lelouch's heart can be touched. No matter how Lelouch is resolved in getting isolated he is someone that still yearns for someone to trust and help him unconditionally. Like in episode 18, even though he knew that Guilford thought that he was saving Cornellia, Lelouch was completely taken aback that the man saved him and in his last words told him to live on desperately. This time it was Rolo. Even after he went crazy on the kid, Rolo still came back on his own free will to save Lelouch.

Situations where the other parties genuinely tries to help Lelouch unconditionally tends to break down his barriers and he ends up giving second chances (or in the case of Suzaku 3 chances). That is way in Rolo's final moments Lelouch gave him a little white lie (probably out of debt and pity) so he could die contently.

Lelouch did go completely psycho over Nunnally. Remember that he was ranting to Todou and company to go find Nunnally and to hell with anyone else. Saying stuff like that doesn't really present high moral to his army. -_- And then right after that his eyes became completely dead. I find that even more devastating reaction from him. At least with Shirley he had rage going for him. And even though it was the wrong way for him to go about it he was still had willpower and was moving forward. With Nunnally he ended up completely devastated and was just sitting around doing nothing cause he had lost all of his willpower to fight since Nunnally was practically 80% of why he fought.

And we all know that what Lelouch hates is not being about to move forward and just standing still being unable to change anything is like a slow death to him.

[identity profile] stillarium.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with this comment... Actually, I was surprised by this thread, because Lelouch's actions in the episode didn't seem OOC at all to me. It would have been very cruel to tell Rolo that he hates him and tried to kill him after while he was already dying. It's one of those contradictions; Zero is cruel, but Lelouch can actually be really gentle and caring and in that moment, he was just Lelouch, just like Rolo was Lelouch Lamperouge's brother and not Lelouch vi Britannia's. T_T And I mean... Rolo DID save Lelouch after all, he stood by his side while everyone else had deserted him.

[identity profile] chiharu.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Lelouch pretty much gave up when the black knights surrounded him; he even told Kallen some sort of lie to get her away from his side. Him, ready to hand himself over to britania was pretty much rock bottom for Lelouch, but Rolo was the only one that wanted him to live. Lelouch may be a bastard, but he was shaken up somewhat. I think the fact that Lelouch wasn't crying at Rolo's death scene showed that while he didn't want Rolo to die heartbroken (hence, the lie), he still wasn't ready to weep like he did for Euphie. So yeah, Sunrise gave us some sort of median. I'm fine with that, since they also gave us a beautiful death scene instead of using some nuke to rid the series of Rolo.

[identity profile] aya-kari.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
In fact, I didn't even know what to think of this episode at first because I see everything so... rushed and so much OOC-ness ;_; Not only Lelouch, for suddenly caring about Rolo as you said, and especially getting over Nunnally's "death" (because we know she's fine >>) so quickly, I also feel like Rolo needed more development ;_;.

I mean, as I posted before somewhere, someone who's proven to be so scared of getting discarded shouldn't be able to convince himself that his brother is lying so easily, right? If we hadn't had spoilers of what was going to happen next, I'd have thought that Rolo's reaction to Lulu telling him that he always hated him would be deciding to go back to his life doing missions. The only thing that kept him wanting to fight for his new happy life was the hope that Lelouch gave him by treating him as a brother. If suddenly he's told all of that was a lie (AND IN SUCH A CRUEL WAY TOO ;____;), that indeed, he's never been loved after all... Well, I'd thought then he'd definitely lose all the hope for a normal and happy life and that now he would truly believe that the only possible kind of life for him is that emotionless one, simply following orders and not caring about anyone anymore.

Kallen too needed more shock time after Zero told her he had been using all of them all along >>. So yeah, I think the events in this episode should have been separated into two episodes. Too much happens without enough explaining of what is going on through the characters' minds. ESPECIALLY ROLO CAUSE THIS WAS SUPOSSED TO BE HIS EPISODE HE DIDN'T APPEAR ENOUGH.

I think that it was perfectly IC for Rolo. After all, if you desperately believe something, you can rationalize just about anything. Rolo desperately believed that Lelouch loved him. I imagine that he was very hurt at first (I mean, christ, look at the poor kid's eyes,) but after thinking about it...he realized that even though Lelouch said that, he still thought of him as a brother. Siblings don't always get along, and Lelouch just had his sister torn away from him (whether she's actually dead or not.) That probably made him a) realize that the idea of 'he needs nobody except me' was completely wrong and therefore b) empowered him to sacrifice his own life so that Lelouch could live. Because he loved Lelouch. Because he actually felt like a human, for the first time in his life, and it was because of Lelouch.

Kallen's shock time will come later. Lelouch was concerned about getting her away from him, because he thought he was going to die. But she heard him. 'You must live on.' That's why she turned around, and that's why she tried to get the others to stop. They didn't listen 'cause they're dickholes, but Rolo saved the day so all is well.

[identity profile] kankiin.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
IMHO, Lelouch was not out of character during those final moments with Rolo. Despite having to bar his heart from time to time, he's still human, and his heart can be moved by others. [livejournal.com profile] meijioro's post a few comments above explains it fairly well. It's not the first time Lelouch has been surprised by other people's selfless efforts.

I wouldn't say that he suddenly started to genuinely reciprocate Rolo's brotherly love at that moment (though Lelouch has taken things for granted before -case and point, Shirley- and tends to notice how special some people are only AFTER they're gone, as he admits during the preview, so I wouldn't be surprised if he genuinely held some attachment to Rolo deep in his heart), but Lelouch certainly gained a newfound respect for the boy. Rolo stayed by Lelouch's side unconditionally, despite being lied to and hated. Compared with the Knight's swift betrayal only moments beforehand, Lelouch must have been truly touched, or at the very least, impressed by Rolo's devotion, enough to allow Rolo some peace before he passed away.

And well, Rolo had always proved to be unpredictable. He could have gone down the unemotional route, but then again, his belief that Lelouch loved him despite his harsh words prevailed.

haha "i hate your caramel guts" thats something i haven't heard XD haha

lulu was kind of weird...i think hes still really holding onto the hope that nunally isn't dead. hell im holding onto that hope.

[identity profile] ceruleanghost.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Lulu was just telling Rolo what he wanted to hear in the end, because he was touched by Rolo's sacrifice -- even if he did hate his caramel guts, lol. Whenever Lulu screws someone over that he cares about (openly or secretly) he gives them this "everything's going to be all right" kind of attitude. I think he understood how sad that situation was, even if he should rightfully be batshit insane by now.

Well, since there's already 109289234 answers, my question is, "Is this the end of R2? Will it continue, or do we have to wait for another season? :\"

I don't know what to do with myself right now..i'm actully shaking after watching the episode and now typing this... I don't know who to be pissed at more. the little faith that the black knights have in zero or the constent betrayal that seems to be the shows prominent theme..

At least kallen figured out that was going on in Lulu's head. but I'm PISSED! at Ougi! that bastard!. ok Todo has a clear reason to be pissed at zero but ougi! WTF his woman is still alive! its not like he ordered her to die!. not to mention the woman and children thing. they showed their colors. so it wasen't just a oh you killed innocent woman and children!.

Schnizel has been a character that I wasen't sure how to classify till now...HE A LIEING CHEATING FACKER BASTARD! him and his bitch sister.

LuLu needs to learn that lieing to protect someone is not always the best way to go, he's gotton to used to lieing.

I actully didn't like Rolo before but it took a act of what you can only call love to do what he did (the whole trying to kill nannuly aside) I really feel sorry for him and i'm sad at the way he died.

I hope the black knights feel like asses when the find out the truth and reality of things. true they have some reasons to be pissed at zero but not to the extent of betrayal.

oh and it looks like Suzaku has fianlly snapped. its unclear what he's gonna do now, not like he can kill himself out of greif but on a side note, orangie needs to anti geass him, that "survive" order is doing more damage then good now.

Charles is up to shit again but Lulu seems to have the resolve to fight to fight him still, and it seems like he's resigned himself to his own death too.

This was way to much for my mind to take in one episode...I swear sunrise was trying to off a good populaton of the fans with this one XD

[identity profile] miribai.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've been championing for Oghi ever since he fished Villeta out of the water. But it hurt me to see him turn on Zero like that.

HOWEVER, I think he was doing good with what he had to work with. He still kept to the heart of Zero's mission. "Ok, Zero is a gigantic asshole who may have been manipulating us against his will. But you can't have him until we have Japan." I clapped for him for that. GG Ohgi...now go marry Villeta and have tons of half and half babies and be the shining light of peace between Britannia and Japan.

Rolo was a tool fr every one even for lelouch, the only one who was kind was lelouch lamperouge with no memory, so in the end he understand that rolo's madness ws because of geass user and his father will, so he was in despair like he... so he really was his brother in sorrow and he hurt him more with his truthful words than strangulate him or kill him when he tell him that not loves him at all and hate him that was worse than death itself for him

he realese his at last and so was he figure out what he really feel for him was pitty, the same pitty have for himself

[identity profile] flamecrysta.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I completely agree that Rolo was fighting for Lelouch Lamperouge. When you think about it, Lulu w/ his memories isn't Lelouch Lamperouge as much as he is Lelouch vi Brittania or Zero. So Rolo was fighting for the kind lulu.

Still, it makes you wonder about CC, who was left behind

[identity profile] schizofragile.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the others explained and I agree. Lelouch had this ~*~EPIPHANY~*~ when Rolopon was already dying. GG, Lulu. ;~;

[identity profile] jczala.livejournal.com 2008-08-18 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we all know that Lelouch can be such a cold-hearted character. He can go emo as well. I didn't approve his way of treating Rolo as a pawn. I know that he had lied to Rolo so many times, pretended to be show brotherly love to the guy, but I still think he cared for him deep within his heart. Lelouch was surprised to see how loyal Rolo was till the end. Even though Lelouch snapped at him, Rolo helped him escaped, helped him unconditionally. I simply admired Rolo in episode 19. I never hated Rolo and I even like him even more now. Lelouch treated Rolo badly than what he did to the Black Knights, but the Black Knights have all turned against him.

Lelouch was being in character when he went psycho over Nunnally. Toudou was suprised on how he gave out his commands like a mad man. He was devastated with Nunnally's death. Can't blame him for that since Nunnally was his most treasured person in the world.

HE WAS AMAZED BY ROLO'S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE WHEN EVERYONE ELSE WAS AN ASSHAT AND DITCHED HIM

This forever this. I hated Rolo just as much as the next guy. But seeing him and his devotion and LOVE for his 'brother' after everything Lelouch has said.... Well you can't get that kind of loyalty anymore. And fuck, OotBK ditched him with only half the story, they didn't understand why Lelouch did what he did (and that sound clip from him about Geassing Euphie...total hax, we all know that was an accident), and they betrayed him. But there Rolo had it laid out in front of him with no filter, no sugar coating.

I'VE BEEN TRYING TO KILL YOU FOR THE LAST TEN EPISODES YOU FAGGOT!

and STILL, Rolo saved his Nii-san.

That's love. That's why I forgive him. That's why I now love him.

Nina...Suzaku...you will have no such luck.

We used to like what used to be. For all the things that cannot change, places that cannot be, people who cannot stay.

I never had to choke myself in this lie of yours.
I convinced myself this was my only life.
Here I am, still waiting, still holding time.
I may not be what I think I am.
But I just don’t care as there’s a place I feel you.
A place where I never used to feel that…
A lie got real, that love will never change.
I know you've never really got inside of me.
But for a dream of mine you realized there’s no forgoing.
I’ll raise you up, never let you fall.
Lelouch… Just let me disappear.
