Knight of Round Cape Help?

I'm looking for some helpful advice on making a pattern for the Knight of Round cape. I know I'm taking a big risk by asking this here in the main community, but I do not want to screw up my fabric. Normally, I don't care too much, but the material I'm using for Nomette's cape was really expensive. Also, what did you guys use for the material of your cape? I'm rather curious. Thanks in advance for your help~!

Whenever I'm having trouble, I usually make mock ups using cheaper fabric. I know a lot of people use cotton and gold material. I don't know why so much gold gets used though, as very little art suggests that the crests are shiny.

There's a Geass thread on cosplay.com that might help.

I still need to get started. Back when I planned a Zero, no one had even attempted the mask. I've got a lot to live up to.

Me too, but it does work. Though I'd consider something heavier like wool, or velvet. Like I said, I don't understand why so many people make unshiny things shiny. The only thing I can think of is either all gold colored material is shiny, or it just a matter of aesthetics winning over accuracy.

What materials are you using?

I'm definitely going to think about it with my Zero and imperial costumes.

I also dislike the use of shiny gold, not just on the Knights of Rounds capes, but on costumes in general. It doesn't look all that bad in person, but it comes out terrible in photos.

Indeed. It can look nice though, which is probably why it's so common. Most Zeon crtests are done in gold, though I went with microseude, which looks a lot more professional and not as guady (based off MS IgLoo). Though it's all on if the art dictates it, and most of the Rounds shots I've seen don't. If I do, I'll change my opinion. I like getting things as close to onscreen as possible. Though the animated nature does allow one to fudge with texture. Fabric choices can make or break a costume.

I'm still trying to pin what material to use for R2 Zero. The cape definitely has a sheen, but the rest of it has one off and on. I'm thinking a velvet or other "depends on the light" fabric.

Drawing out the crests will be fun, I know that from my Zeon. Though KoRs are much larger.

I'd just look for a basic cape pattern and go from there. If you're worried about ruining your fabric, make a mock-up out of some cheap muslin first. Good luck. :)

Are you talking about the overall shape, or the embroidery on the fabric? Most costume/fabric stores probably have a cape pattern you could buy, and modify if you need to. As for the embroidery, that could be tricky but try mapping it out digitally to make sure you don't get the measurements wrong before you set it to scale on your pattern.
