[mod] Regarding...

Other people's fanart.
You may post pictures and links, but if their site explicitly states to 'not post or reproduce', please adhere to their wishes. If they ask you to take a picture down, please do so.

I think fanartists that do not want promoted are in the minority, so not allowing any would be a loss for the community in general.

I deleted the previous post since it seemed like it would give the wrong impression to a casual reader.
Thanks.

ahhh thanks for clearing that up :D

it's fine ^___^ i don't care that much about japanese fanart, so i left it to you to decide what to do with it XD

definitely... some of the japanese fanart is too good to miss ;__;

Well, we could make it so that fanart posts are locked? I also think it would be a shame to not at the very least share links. ;-; So I'm glad we're going to still be allowed that.

As for reposting fanart/sharing links and for those who might not have Japanese characters enabled (like me ;___;) perhaps could there be a mod/sticky post of sites that are OK to repost fanart from? And so, those who can read Japanese and can see the font could comment with sites that are "free" to share?

Hooray, sharing (links to fansites) is caring. 8D

I apologize for my post, it seems to have given wrong impression... m(_ _)m

Thank you reposting in much better way than I did. m(_ _)m

Do you think maybe a compilation of links to their pages would be okay? (ie- not posting their work, but pointing people in the right direction) I usually keep a bookmark folder for Japanese artists just to keep track of their work. I know some people keep a really organized list of links to artists in the Mai HiME/Otome community somewhere...

Well, I mean something along the lines of this (http://greywing.livejournal.com/82329.html).  I guess it would probably be something of a sticky somewhere, but it promotes the knowledge of the actual artist instead of just promoting people saving and uploading pictures elsewhere on the net. (Or so I think, at least.)

uh, I'm not too sure if this line:
but if their site explicitly states to 'not post or reproduce is ok. I know this might sound stupid, but changing it the other way around (like "but if their site explicitly states it's ok to post or reproduce, then you can"). It's just to clear that up, because as it was said on the previous post, there are people that could say "well, I don't know japanese, so it's not my fault, they should have wrote it in english". It's just to clear that out! I can't really explain that well, because my english isn't really good...

wel no, I'm sure there are not, it was just for the guideline to be more clear! I guess I really explained myself BAD, but what I meant is, to be even more clear, instead of placing "if it's says don't do it, don't do it" put a "do it only if they say do it", because most people just won't even take the time to read the artist disclaimers.
As I said it's a useless thing but maybe it could be more clear that way ;_;" I'm saying this out of personal experience, but whenever I say something like "don't do it if they say they don't want to" people reply to me like "If it's not write in english it's ok, I couldn't know they didn't want to".

Hope it was clear what I meant this time! (not like you really need to change it, but I got the impression you got the wrong Idea, I don't support art theft, in fact, I hate it and I fight it everywhere I can ^^;)

i think links are fine, but i'm not that sure about posting pictures...
whether the authors would like it, i mean.

Well, thanks for covering some of the issue I think. But really, I don't think anything but links to sites should be posted. Stealign fanart without permission is bad. ¬_¬'

I mean, I wouldn't even post a link, because I know there would be many arrogant fuckers who'd use it in an avatar/signature etc.
