In light of episodes 22 and 23 [SPOILERS FOR THESE EPISODES], I wanted to see what other people think about

Some little thoughts:
Lelouch
From the beginning people have been calling Geass the crack addicted lovechild of Death Note and Gundam Seed. Or something like that. So the question is, will Lulu follow the path of Raito and end up a drooling, pathetic mess thrashing around on the ground while all his "friends" watch in horror/disgust? The way I see it, the boy is doomed. With the Death Note, there was always a strong element of choice. Every time Raito picked up the pen, he was making the choice all over again. But Lulu only made the choice once-- when he received the Geass. He can't undo that or make it go away. The only hope of redemption I see for him lies in Nunally, who is arguably the crucial factor which his sanity hangs upon. As long as she's alive and there to go "Nii-san... will you be home for dinner? *Weep* I miss you!" Lulu will stay strong. But Sunrise is practically shoving Lulu's descent into evil down our throats, all the mad cackling and twisted grins. And the fact that he has successfully alienated himself (through lies/manipulation/killing/etc) from almost every single one of his friends/allies, even if those friends/allies haven't realized it yet. Seems as though C.C. is the only who is truely on his side, knowing everything that he is and his true identity and shaitz, but even C.C. I am starting to doubt. Midway through ep. 23, when he is alone in that room with her, he shows a rare moment of weakness, and she comforts him. She says, "The one who will always be with you will always be me." I got shivers. Did she not promise almost the exact same thing to Mao?? I don't have past eps. on my computer but I seem to remember her saying something like that to a weepy child!Mao. And then after that in the hall she said Lelouch's mother's name to herself, "Marianne", WTF??? Now it's not that I don't trust her... okay, I just don't trust her. I don't think she'll be Lulu's ally to the end in this mess. I think we are in for some mind shattering revelations. Mind shattering for Lulu, that is.

So there's my rambing 2 cents on Lulu... and now,

Suzaku
Suzaku keeps surprising me. In the beginning I expected him to be a really straightforward Kira-type, who will angst and moan and then go kick some ass in his Gundam Knightmare. But the dark past... PATRICIDE!!... getting hit with some weird Geass effect by C.C. (which I still don't understand)... and now losing his er, one true love at the hands of the person who he will inevitably discover is actually his secret gay lover best friend!?! Someone needs to go stuff this boy into a CLAMP manga where he can murder Subaru and take his place as the new Sakurazukamori. *Cough* So anyways, I think Suzaku is better off in this than Lelouch. He has better coping skills, and no Geass to addle his brains.

Thoughts?

a drooling, pathetic mess thrashing around on the ground

Light was just SWIMMING (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=704997&postcount=10), yo.

In other, more serious matters, I did have that same question regarding CC's comforting Lelouch with the oh-I'll-be-with-you-forever-baby front. Lelouch isn't stupid. He should know that she must have said the same thing to Mao. (Also, FYI, in the flashback in episode 15 where ickle!Mao is drawing CC, her voice overlaps with "[...] if you only calm down when just the two of us are together, I will be with you forever.") ^_^

Because my Humanities class is so awesome.

I personally think Suzaku has a nasty habit of repressing feelings. Repression is not the correct thing to do and sometimes symptoms neurosis can appear. This can also lead to mental break downs which can lead to becoming physically impaired for a while. It depends though but there have been cases. Like the case of the woman who saw her ex-fiance with another woman and she collapsed in the street, suddenly unable to walk.

So that was random but I feel Suzaku is going to have some bad physical reaction (maybe a reflex) in the second season. Like, spazzing out and mindlessly slaughtering someone without realizing what he's doing. (Oh damn, I'm thinking of SEED. Bad girl!)

As for the Death Note comparisons to Code Geass, I find them kind of... annoying. :/ Sure, the main characters are intelligent young males who use their wits to fight but the situations are different in each show and so is the plot. Plus, Lelouch still remains humane. Come on, would he use Nunnally as bait to kill Suzaku/Cornelia/random person for his own personal gain?

To me, Death Note and Code Geass are in seperate categories. One is a suspense and one is a mecha.

I'm beginning to wonder if Lelouch will just disappear at the end of the series. Like, go into hiding for the rest of his life. He doesn't seem like the type of person who would kill himself and probably in the "final, epic battle" of the series, he will be injured greatly but he has to live for the contract with C.C., right? Unless the contract is completed before.

Ahh, I don't know anymore. .___. I'm expecting major wtfuckery and plot bunnies in the second season.

[identity profile] halevy.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder if it has to due with potential. Mao didn't live up to it, as he grew far too childish and obsessive. Lelouch... I suppose is childish in a way, with his big ego and whatnot but he must have more potential than Mao, right?

[identity profile] brennadouglasmw.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Potential might be part of it, but I think CC's holding to the promise of staying with whomever mainly hinges on whether or not they are still able/willing to fulfill the "contract" with her. Mao went crazy, so I'm guessing he's unable. Though, granted, we don't know exactly when CC left him. :3

[identity profile] halevy.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't Mao around the same age as Lelouch if not a couple of years older? He didn't look very old, I'd think he was 20. C.C. was observing Lelouch and Suzaku while they were kids so I take it C.C. left Mao while he was still very young.

[identity profile] areku1993.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I have nothing to add except how Suzaku's insanity-description made me seriously lol.

[identity profile] sapphynashi.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what the hell to expect, to be honest. x_x But I think that Suzaku is more likely to have a mental breakdown, or he'll have it first. I think Lelouch is bound to do something crazy too, but he's more aware of it.

God, I hope he doesn't end up like Light. That was just painful. I hold on to the hope that Code Geass isn't quite as concentrated on the psychological aspect and more action-oriented, so maybe Lelouch won't become a complete mess like that. He does have Nunnally and C.C. to keep him somewhat grounded. I agree that C.C. comforting him was a "WHOA, WAITAMINUTETHERE" moment, but it seems to me that she's sincerely warming to him. I do expect some sort of zomgbetrayal?! situation later, but it may or may not end badly.

V.V. though, he creeps me the fuck out, and I can't help but feel that he's just going to make Suzaku lose it faster. ._.

Some shit's going to go down with Nunnally, too. If she betrays Lelouch, or if anything happens to her, his sanity is out the window. >.> I don't want that to happen though. But I can't predict her because she doesn't freaking react to anything so who knows what she'll think when she finds out. Or she might know something already. I haven't a clue.

*is still all twitchy and 'nooooo' over the BFF being torn apart akjhfdkjhjds whhhhyyyyy*

[identity profile] brennadouglasmw.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I have no clue how old Mao was when he joined the story. I figured he was at least older than school-age considering he'd "bought a house in Australia". I don't know how true that was though; he was crazy, so... Anyway, twenty sounds like a good guess. CC says that Mao was six when she made the contract with him. And I think Lelouch is around nine or ten when he goes to Japan, which would make him 17 or 18 at the time of his first meeting with CC. So if he's two or three years younger than Mao, CC must have left him by the time he was 12 or 13.

...

Right? Doing mental math like this is hard. D:

Personally, I think Code Geass is waaaay surpassing its "parents."

[identity profile] gacktyougirl.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
where he can murder Subaru and take his place as the new Sakurazukamori.

*SNORT*

[identity profile] brennadouglasmw.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Lelouch is bound to do something crazy too

... Like order his personal army to murder the pilot of a certain white Knightmare even after finding out this pilot is his best friend? Or shoot his half-sister after accidentally-on-purpose ordering her to commit genocide? Or order an entire squad of soldiers to shoot themselves? ... Yeah, I'm obnoxious. >D

VV is so cute!!! In a demon-child sort of way. :3

I seriously can't wait to see what Nunally does if she ever finds out that it was Lelouch's fault that "Euphie-nee-sama" went off and killed people. :d

>_> SuzakuxKamui ♥

*coughs*

I fear for Suzaku's life span. Considering like, 75% of the fandom hates his guts, maybe even 90%, I fear he will die by the end of season 1. =( I did not like the ending of 23...

And um. I giggle at the Death Note/Code Geass comparisons... because um, all this time, I have been sorta comparing Code Geass with an RPG game...

[identity profile] zalem.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
I think Lelouch will be dead by the end of season two. The only question is how. I agree with the above poster...Light's death was painful for me. Especially since I'm a huge Light fan. I can see why they did it that way, of course, but I didn't like it. It seems the editor was just too intent on having Light punished in the worst possible way (or so rumors say).

Frankly, I don't think Lulu deserves that kind of end. Light was a ruthless cold-blooded killer. Lelouch is ruthless and selfish, but he still has a heart. Part of him is still good inside. That will remain the case so long as Nunnally is alive. Yes, he has a lot of sins riding on his head right now and he will probably commit more, but I don't think he deserves to end up a weeping, crawling, broken mess at the end. I'd prefer he go out with a bang. Die fighting to the end. Or die redeemed somehow. I don't see him winning and alive at the end of all this. I'd be shocked if that happens.

Oh the "Marianne" thing. C.C. wasn't just saying her name. She was TALKING to her. You know how she has been having those private conversations with an unknown someone throughout the series? Well Marianne is one of the people she's been talking to it turns out (the other being V.V.). That's what makes it so crazy. So either Marianne is alive or C.C. can speak to the dead. But I suppose if the Emperor can speak to dead Clovis, then C.C. can speak to dead people too. Really wonder what Marianne thinks of all this. O_O

Suzaku....sure he surprised me with the dark past and now he's hell bent on revenge. But still he is more like the typical mecha hero, so if anyone is still alive at the end it will be him. But then again they could surprise me and kill him off...

[identity profile] infected-wound.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Lelouch made his choices though, just like Suzaku did, and whether or not he's heartless or not, he brought it upon himself. So, while it's sad that he really can't have any other end but a, oh, death, all this time he's been hammering nails into his coffin ~

I hope though that, in the end, whether or not both of them die, Suzaku and Lelouch can rekindle their friendship. Even if it's for like, the last few minutes of their lives... Forgiveness is good :(

Re: Because my Humanities class is so awesome.

I've been imagining that as the epilogue since forever XD I don't think Lelouch can live in the world he creates in the end, after all the things he's done. But I don't think he deserves to die because of it. So, I compromise and let him stay in hiding with C.C.

[identity profile] sapphynashi.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
...Crazier, then. XD That isn't a furthering part of his Grand Scheme.

Augh, I'm going to hate V.V. for no real reason until he does something I perceive as 'awesome'. XD; So far, spilling the beans to an already emotionally-tormented Suzaku does not count as 'awesome' in my book.

Whatever happens with Nunnally better be exciting and not contribute to the anti-friendship between Lelouch and Suzaku. D: I don't think anything can possibly make it worse though.

I have faith...

(Anonymous) 2007-04-01 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
......in C.C.

To be entirely honest, despite the fact that she said something similar to Mao, I'm hopeful that she really did mean that towards Lelouch.

She's less heartless than how they try to make her seem; it was obvious that she /did/ care for Mao. Even after all he did to her at the end of Episode 15-- shoot her in three places, threatened to reveal Lelouch and cut her up-- she didn't want Lelouch to shoot him. She wanted to talk it out. And she's been slowly showing compassion towards our protagonist as well. Especially in this episode, it looks like she's sorry for being the one who caused Lelouch so much pain due to the Geass; the way the camera zooms up on her face when Lelouch states that he made a contract with the devil makes me wonder if she does think it's her fault. And the moment in the hallway actually made me trust her more--for one, it shows that her statement was said out of warmth rather than lies ("Actually, I'm rather happy...Yeah. I've long forgotten about warmth, Marianne) and, if she's talking to Lelouch's mother, then I don't fear her loyalty to Lelouch.

Who knows? Maybe she didn't want to leave Mao, but had to. The closest I think that C.C. will get to leaving Lelouch next season is a short leave, but a quick comeback afterwards when both of them realize they still need each other, like Episode 15. I don't think that Lelouch will fail his end of the bargain. After all, the audience still needs to see it come true ^___^

[identity profile] sapphynashi.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
I am so with you on the forgiveness part, though I have no idea how they can possibly bridge the gap that's now between them. I just want some sort of sign that the BFF pieces will still be lying around among the rest of the carnage and broken hearts.

[identity profile] brennadouglasmw.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
XD

Aw, I think VV is so adorable. VV and Kaguya = cute explosion. And I don't even like kids! :O

It will be awesome if Nunally ends up with a Geass as well and then uses it to resurrect the dead kill Suzaku and Lelouch... er... I can't think of anything *useful*. :/

[identity profile] infected-wound.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of believe that if anyone has the huge capacity to forgive, it should be Suzaku... but, considering how Lelouch offed? I think it'll be hard. Suzaku is so painfully kind... but after this? Gah. -_- I doubt he'll forgive Lelouch... but even then, I can hope.

I don't even want him to understand Lelouch's reasons. I just want him, in his last few minutes with Lelouch, to forgive Lelouch and just ignore whatever shit Lelouch did and... move on. -_- *sniffs*

Somehow, why do I like Suzaku so much? T_T MAYBE it's because I've never watched Gundam Seed!

[identity profile] euphyi.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not so sure that Lulu is so much descending into evil as standing by the choices he made in the beginning of the series. (agreeing to bear the "loneliness of the king"..) He's far from stupid, and his goal in the first place was never precisely noble- sure, creating a safe world for his sister is one thing, but I always got the impression that he realised this was a selfish thing- in his mind at least he was never in a position of high and mighty righteousness. He was always an avenger. Possibly things have escalated beyond his calculations- I'm sure he never meant to cause Euphie's death, but it sure looks like he's been planning to attack Tokyo for a while now- but things happen, and he's dealing with them despite his personal feelings. ah Lulu you're so manly

What happens after he's accomplished what he's set out to do is another matter.. I can't see him enjoying the spoils of empire because he's not the leader type who inspires personal devotion and loyalty. But for that reason I think CC may stick with him. They're quite alike, layering ruthlessness and cold calculation over human vulnerability.. she might abandon him, but only if he gives up on her first. (or maybe that's just the fangirl in me speaking)

Suzaku suprised me muchly too. I think I'd hate him a lot more if I didn't get the feeling that he wasn't really in control of himself.. in a time when Lulu's losing his grip on his purpose, Suzaku's gained one, but he's transformed himself into a new person to hold it. I can't really see a happy ending for him..

[identity profile] zalem.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I'm not saying he isn't bringing it on himself. Though some of his choices....well he didn't have much of a choice to begin with. The geass going crazy wasn't something he expected and he pretty much had to kill Euphie.

But still he did make the choice to become Zero to begin with and by making such a choice he has to bear with the responsibility of all his actions. If he was just living quietly with Nunnally and Zero didn't exist, even if geass did go wonky all this mess wouldn't have happened. Still I feel awful for him. He was about to come to an agreement with Euphie (actually he DID come to an agreement), but then all hell broke loose. Now he's on a path he can't really back out of. So while I expect him to pay for his sins in the end (to die basically), I still hope it's not in a broken and pathetic manner like with Light.

I'd love to see a reconciliation at the end too. But I just don't see now it's possible. ;-;

My only wish right now is for Cornelia to punch Lelouch in the stomach. Hard.

Please, Sunrise, make this happen.
