Anyone know what is up with the subs? They're showing up for me during the OP song but not during the actual episode o_O;

[identity profile] rkold.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It won't work for me, I'm on a Mac. ~.~ (was just reading over at GG's website. ~.~ )

[identity profile] rkold.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope so, I've been waiting for this episode subbed. If I can't get it to work, I may as well just watch everything raw and struggle with my limited knowledge of Japanese. ~.~

It's very frustrating since the subs still work for the OP, and a few other places, just not for the majority of dialog. *sighs*

Thanks though for the suggestions, I really do appreciate it.

Yeah same problem here. GG seems to be full of asshats who don't understand that their solution isn't a solution at all... I haven't been able to test it but it seems the only alternative is to compile MPlayer yourself and run stuff from the terminal -- I've been trying to follow the Anime Suki tutorial mentioned on the CCCP page but I'm so lost... I don't even know where to procure most of the files in question, or what versions I need or anything. It's all quite cryptic, at least to me.... What's most frustrating is that the issue with the subs seems to be stemming largely from some vendeta GG has against VLC and nothing else... Elitist bastards...

An alternative I've found is to hang around this thread on aarinfantasy (you need to register but that's it): http://aarinfantasy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29166&page=11 they usually post avi's converted from the mkv files pretty soon after the episode's released. I much prefer softsubs but at least the avi's are watchable.

[identity profile] rkold.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhhhh I just joined Aarinfantasy, there are a few other things that I can't get to play on my Mac and perhaps they have a work around for those as well. Thank you. ^_^

I'm sort of lucky, my husband is a computer programmer and actually knows how to do all that compiler stuff and we might try to get mplayer working, but GAH! I wish they had warned they were going to do this. I think I am going to look into getting 16 raw since it seems stupid to wait a week and a half for subs that don't work. I'm so frustrated right now.

If we get the Mplayer stuff working I will try to share here for future reference.

And it irks me to no end, that the GG people have been completely UNHELPFUL. It's fine if they want to have something against VLC, but come out with a player for those of us who are on Mac and not complete hackers/programmers. ~.~ Much like how MKV is a better format than AVIs, Macs and Linux are GOOD and they're not going away anytime soon.

Ah! Found a work around: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=42488

The font that worked for me ended up being "EuphemiaCASBold" ironically enough. It might be different for your player but just in case it saves you time from having to go through the whole list to find one that works.

Got it from Aarin and just watched it!

Thank you for all the wonderful advice, I wish subber groups would not go out of their way to make things harder on Mac Users. ~.~

[identity profile] zalem.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't work for me either and I am on a PC. O_O It usually works just fine...

[identity profile] zalem.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that worked. Thanks!

[identity profile] nokiirat.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
go to the subtitles option in the player you can play it in and choose english.

[identity profile] zalem.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Tried that, but it didn't work. But I downloaded CCCP and that did work so I guess that's what I'll be using from now on...

[identity profile] black-rose.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY! I keep telling people I'm not obsessed and they don't believe me, but I really don't want to attempt to count the number of times I checked the comm this week looking for the link to the ep 15 sub... I might not believe me, either

THANK YOU! :)

Love,
Rose

damn!!! no subs??!! how to watch? I'm frustrated enuf that they are not in .avi format in the first place, but it doesn't really matter much..but now no subs?? How can [gg] do this to us? This isn't a crappy anime therefore you dun have to treat it in a crappy way by giving us subless episode!! >_< Today is not April Fool yet~~~~grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

[identity profile] nokiirat.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
go to the subtitles menu in whatever player you are using and choose 'english'

[identity profile] annwyd.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I've been biting my tongue on a lot of the things that irk me about gg's attitude, because hey, they don't have to sub the anime for us, but deliberately making it so that their subs don't work on VLC is really obnoxious. Why do they care what program people use? For some people, VLC is easiest and CCCP is difficult to use.

[identity profile] annwyd.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
This comment (http://www.ggkthx.org/?p=423#comment-1840) should give you an idea of how obnoxious they're being.

I've always been bothered by their attitude, but I figured it was in poor taste to publicly bitch about the attitude of the people who were subbing the anime for fans. But now it's not just a matter of attitude--they are actively making an effort to make their releases less accessible to fans.

That said, yeah, I didn't have any trouble installing CCCP either. But my friend did; she had to resort to getting an avi from aarinfantasy. People on Macs, likewise, seem to have a lot of trouble with it and all the other options presented by gg. :/

Aw, man! It looks like that link was deleted. =o Heh. I betcha is Lemonade or one of these obnoxious elitists from that group saying something nasty to one of the people.

I mean, if what the others are saying is true, then they're being ridiculous...

Seriously, I can't decide which side is less wrong in this. I don't approve of abusing the ASS comment syntax, but neither do I approve of resisting new and better technologies such as Matroska, .264 and ASS.

Linux and Windows folks: There is no need to recompile mplayer unless you want the more advanced ASS features such as text placement and embedded fonts. The standard binary supports basic ASS and won't show the {} comments.

Mac folks: I can't personally help you since I don't have access to a Mac, but I've been told that these (http://www.haque.net/software/mplayer/mplayerosx/builds/) are binary releases. They should work fine.

Here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/1v4z0m)'s clean .ass subs for you.

sed for the win!
