It's very frustrating since the subs still work for the OP, and a few other places, just not for the majority of dialog. *sighs*
Thanks though for the suggestions, I really do appreciate it.

An alternative I've found is to hang around this thread on aarinfantasy (you need to register but that's it): http://aarinfantasy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29166&page=11 they usually post avi's converted from the mkv files pretty soon after the episode's released. I much prefer softsubs but at least the avi's are watchable.

I'm sort of lucky, my husband is a computer programmer and actually knows how to do all that compiler stuff and we might try to get mplayer working, but GAH! I wish they had warned they were going to do this. I think I am going to look into getting 16 raw since it seems stupid to wait a week and a half for subs that don't work. I'm so frustrated right now.
If we get the Mplayer stuff working I will try to share here for future reference.
And it irks me to no end, that the GG people have been completely UNHELPFUL. It's fine if they want to have something against VLC, but come out with a player for those of us who are on Mac and not complete hackers/programmers. ~.~ Much like how MKV is a better format than AVIs, Macs and Linux are GOOD and they're not going away anytime soon.

The font that worked for me ended up being "EuphemiaCASBold" ironically enough. It might be different for your player but just in case it saves you time from having to go through the whole list to find one that works.

Thank you for all the wonderful advice, I wish subber groups would not go out of their way to make things harder on Mac Users. ~.~

It's too bad a lot of people can't get it to work :( I wish I could lend my computer to everyone. ♥

1) There are problems when trying to play in VLC (since they are softsubs, not hardsubs), so try getting CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/) and play it in Media Player Classic.
2) Update CCCP, if you are using that. If not, try getting CCCP. The link is here: http://www.cccp-project.net/ As I mentioned above, it should work if you use MPC.
3) If you're using a mac, read this thread here: click (http://community.livejournal.com/code_geass/102246.html?thread=1187430#t1187430).

However, I don't find CCCP difficult to use. I just installed it. And now everything will play (on any of my media players, even windows media player [for WMP, you need to tell it to play even though it says it can't... but it will play it]). XD;; It did screw up my previous codec pack, but everything worked fine once I uninstalled the crappy one I had before. Which was fine, because CCCP makes everything play for me anyway.

I've always been bothered by their attitude, but I figured it was in poor taste to publicly bitch about the attitude of the people who were subbing the anime for fans. But now it's not just a matter of attitude--they are actively making an effort to make their releases less accessible to fans.
That said, yeah, I didn't have any trouble installing CCCP either. But my friend did; she had to resort to getting an avi from aarinfantasy. People on Macs, likewise, seem to have a lot of trouble with it and all the other options presented by gg. :/

But yes, it sounds like your friend had a pervious codec pack installed and had the same problem I did.
Hopefully the person who keeps converting to AVI keeps it up, so everyone can see this series. I should ask if I can upload the AVI files to

I mean, if what the others are saying is true, then they're being ridiculous...

Linux and Windows folks: There is no need to recompile mplayer unless you want the more advanced ASS features such as text placement and embedded fonts. The standard binary supports basic ASS and won't show the {} comments.
Mac folks: I can't personally help you since I don't have access to a Mac, but I've been told that these (http://www.haque.net/software/mplayer/mplayerosx/builds/) are binary releases. They should work fine.
Here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/1v4z0m)'s clean .ass subs for you.
sed for the win!
