I think rather than vulnerability it represents support. Suzaku is the one who's still alive and could use all the emotional support he can get. I think it's very symbolic that they are so close but the sword is the only thing they can share together, as if it represents their pact and Suzaku's destiny. Though the mirrored helmet/hat pose is beautiful.
