That's interesting and it makes sense for the origin of the name, but I highly doubt whoever decided on his name looked into that XD
As for his last name, Lamperouge always made me think of the French expression "lanterne rouge", which is used to call the last one in a cyclist race. It came to mean "to lag behind" and it fits in the way, but I think I'm seeing too much into that (and "lanterne rouge" also translates as "red light district" XP). I really hope we'll be told how they picked his name someday...
