How much is too much?

I don't know if its just me, but when it comes to reading doujins, I enjoy loves scenes that are romantic and passionate but I cannot stand lewedness and vulgarity. I bought a number of doujins over the last few months, some I like very much while others I kind of regret buying because I find them too graphic for my taste. I know everyone has different tastes and to each his own but am I alone in disliking graphic images of body fluids and people's lower regions? How much is too much for your taste? And yes, I'm talking about some CG doujins I've seen but my question can apply to doujins of any series as well. Just curious to know what people out there think.

Curious, what are some examples of pairings/circles are you buying?

In terms of purchasing doujinshi, I'm with you. I love plot and characterization in anything I'm reading/watching so I tend toward the doujinshi which meet that criteria. I'm also really picky about what I buy, and tend to heavily investigate circles/books before purchasing. I don't mind adult content in my doujinshi, but not when it gets into pages of black bar censoring.

I find downloading to be a different case, just because you're not investing money into it and if you don't like it, you can just delete the files off your hard drive. And I think there's less of a guilt issue - my family is much more likely to pick a book off my shelf, and I don't want them finding anything unsavoury.

There's a difference between an adult doujinshi/anime/manga and a doujinshi/anime/manga with adult content. I think that's sort of what it's for, if it's an adult doujinshi. Since it's supposed to be adult rated, I don't find it lewd or vulgar.

I don't think there are many "love" scenes that are romantic for my two CG pairings, so I might be biased.

I... don't see how this pertains to Code Geass? Isn't this post to generic for the comm? Perhaps this is a question you should pose for your personal journal instead.

So you're complaining about buying something without knowing what you're getting rather than finding out information about the product beforehand? Honestly that's all on you.

This community is primarily for the sharing of CG related materials, fanworks, or media and information pertaining to the series. So generic questions about doujinshi aren't really well suited for this community.

Hm... this shouldn't really be here, then, I don't think. It says in this community's rules that one should only post something that has to do with Code Geass.

This is more of an open-ended question than anything that has to do with Code Geass. :/

This seems like a pretty general opinion and question to ask, as have several already said.

Face it, doujinshi is doujinshi. Whether or not one is "tasteless" and "vulgar" can just as easily be ignored, so move onto the rest. Sure, some things can be a little graphic, but that is how it is, and how a doujinshi comes out depends upon the artist alone.

[identity profile] yukiya-ayase.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
there are warnings on the cover of doujinshi. All you need to do is to avoid 18+ ratings. Certain people are looking for that actually (people like me )

A lot of the CG doujins turn me off. I am often looking at Lelouch x C.C. ones and the two seem so out of character. Lelouch would not be dominated. C.C. would not be dominated. That's the way it's stuck in my head. So seeing either of them being the other's slave... confuses me.

About 99% of doujinshis are OOC anyway. It's pretty much going to be because they're not canon and none of the characters in them ever had sex to begin with (as far as we're told).

But that's not really the point of doujinshis. They're essentially porn and are meant to be seen as porn (though, I'm sure someone out there appreciates them as art or something). And we all know what porn is meant for...

I feel quite the opposite, actually. I buy stuff that has an adult warning on the cover, only to get what I consider lame softcore porn. Granted, there are more than a few out there that live up to my standards in quality of art and amount of smut, but I find it funny that someone else has the exact opposite problem.

Hah... In the beggining I felt the same way about most of H-doujins, but surprisingly it didn't turned me from reading XD Probably, what I felt was just embarrassment over 'graphic images', but than I umm get used.

I actually need graphical stuff in my H-doujins. Because, well... I want to know what characters feel, so I need to know what they do - the more, the better.
There are still a lot of kinks that (probably) never appeal to me, but I just ignore them enjoing the rest.

Hope my post does make sence. Not very good in English, sorry >_>

[identity profile] zhay-rar.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I second this. xD

Since I only depend on free, shared doujins off the net to download, I must say that my stack of doujins are really limited and are mostly yaoi ones. At first I was all like O__O on the somewhat too graphical images, but you can always get used to it over time, plus there's the option of skipping through the pages containing such if you think those are too 'much' for you.

Also more than the love scenes, I take note of the art and the plot as an important matter. I don't care if they are somewhat OOC or not, as long as the art's good, then it's perfectly fine for me. It just disappoints me sometimes when I go read this certain doujin and find out that the art is very different from the original character design.

[identity profile] soaker87.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny, because I was just thinking recently at the lack of clean or at least tasteful doujinshi out there. I've read some Code Geass doujinshi, just out of curiosity, but they were downloaded and I could thankfully delete them. I've also read some online, as I've come across Japanese sites that host the full thing.

For me, I don't really like to see a lot of pornographic nastiness, and I also prefer it to be in-character. Sadly, the best Geass doujinshi I've seen to this date are the Knight/Queen anthologies, which are official. It doesn't help that I mostly look at Ougi/Villetta stuff, and I don't think I've found a single one that isn't sick and twisted. There was one I kinda liked though, because it at least had some semblance of plot, but it was also Diethard/Villetta, which I find kinda creepy.

[identity profile] azgh.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Ougi/Villetta doujin with semblance of plot? Yes, please~ Can you share the link?

The only ones I find obnoxious are, well, hentai.

And sometimes really bad yaoi.

But otherwise...I haven't had any problem. Even my R18 LuluShirley was actually really nice. Very plot-ish, surprisingly. Wonderful art...

[identity profile] star-jinin.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe, I'm pretty corrupted so I'll read pretty much anything. But when some characters are portrayed as rapists or sluts, that's when I draw the line. Which is why I try downloading ones with some actual deep content in it.

And if the anatomy (especially certain body parts) are drawn poorly, it's a definite no-no...it really freaks me out...

Censoring bars are also something that I find unappealing. I mean, if you were a really good artist, you'd be able to censor stuff without black bars.

[identity profile] azgh.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)

This. How I hate it when a character being turned into evil-psyho-rapist for no actual reason except author's wish to molest another character by his hands.
