A Code Geass community! And a lively one, too. This is awesome to see indeed.

*ahem* Yes, this is a pesky introduction post. I just started watching the anime yesterday and was hooked left, right and center. Oh, it's not perfect by any means, but it's been so long since anything hits all the spots with just the correct punch. Though Death Note is currently considerably the smarter show, Code Geass is far more enjoyable. To me, that is. I've loved the director's previous Ryvius and I don't think Lelouch will disappoint. Hope there's a lot of mutual fanship to be found here. ♪~ (I tend to rant, sorry)

Though I don't have any creative output to offer to the altar at the moment (translating things always put my brain through a rut) I do have a few questions/guesswork around. Some of these are data gathering for fic, but some are just curiousity. If you don't mind?

- How exactly does Britannia's succession system work? My ears told me all Lelouch said in Episode 2 was "第十七後継承者", 17th successor, and the sub concurs. However, the sub and wikipedia (geass.co.jp has woefully little information) both says "second in line" (I didn't catch this line in the Japanese track, but I assume it's around his line about Empress Marianne, which I didn't completely understand). He's not 2nd prince, and even 3rd prince Clovis is his elder. So how does it work? Does the Emperor just assign whoever he wants on the line to the throne?
- Do you think it's a little too much coincidence that the only person Lelouch visibly softens to cannot be affected by his power? Nanaly's blind. I smell a plot coming about this.
- I'm sure most people also noticed this. In episode 1, when Lelouch's eye first went Geass, all the soldiers were freaking out over what was going on with it. But currently, when he uses the eye and it doesn't work, nobody seems to notice that his eye is red and has wings in the middle of them. Heck, Kallen was far closer to him in Ep. 3 than the soldiers in 1 ever were. What gives?
- Suzaku. A little early, but what do you think his ultimate role is? Best-friend-opposite-side ala Kira and Athrun, Love interest the White Knight, leader of a different philosophy and the True Unifier (by marrying Euphemia) or something else? While I figure the last one to be a given, I'm also betting on him becoming a foil. Lelouch's development doesn't seem to go into the Raito direction, the monster with no heart but a bunch a morals (and yes, I know about the 'reversed' Raito). Lelouch's problem seems to be the opposite : he has too much heart and too little morals to go along with it---and with the OP being optimistic rather than dark, I'm guessing Suzaku is someone to keep Lelouch from going *entirely* mad. They're now in the same class, after all. What's the point of that except throwing their character development curve together? (Of course, he's going to oppose Zero. But ultimately, he's not L, and I don't think he'd be there to kill Lelouch...)
- If Lamperouge is really Empress Marianne's maiden name, isn't it rather stupid for Lelouch and Nanaly to use it? I mean "Oh, this kid...same name as the dead prince, same surname as his mother. Wait a minute..." should occur to someone eventually. They should've came up with a more random surname. Unless that one is REALLY common, but since she's a noble...
- Lelouch will find it difficult not to be compared with Raito, so let's throw it in his face : Death Note or Eye of Geass, what's better? You can kill anyone with the Death Note, wherever, whenever and however. No one the wiser. Eye of Geass, you have to be standing there in front of that guy, can only be used once, but it covers just about everything and you can order a daily schedule.
- Does the manga translation want an assistant translator? >_>

Also the Lancelot is so totally impossibly overpowered. But I guess Lelouch can't have it too easy C-2 is utterly awesome. C-2/Lelouch FTW. ♥

Hmm. I could never think of a scenario whre Light can do that...since Lulu's whole record(ID card, student record, whatever) would probably say his name is Lelouch Lanperouge. But we cannot forget that Light is Light.XD;; Though I couldn't see why Light would want to kill Lulu...he isn't THAT evil, and he is no hinderance to his ultimate plan of world domination(since they're living in two different dimensions XD;; )

O_O I just realized that. I typed Lulu's name first since it's the first that came to mind.XD;; *whacks self* Yeah, Light is totally seme.

Actually, I really agree with your personal interpretation of the whole thing.:DD

L would never stand a chance against them. Nor will Near, or any other tensai that comes after them. (Interesting fact with their names, huh?XD;; ) Both of their power kind of covers up the limits of the other one, and then Team Kira(lol) would be unstopabble. If the whole partnership thingy gets bad, Lulu can always escape back to his own dimension after stealing Light's notbook. He's got Mokona!XD;;

Knowing Lelouch, he's probably being insulting. ;)

Yup, Clovis is a whole 24 - Asuka published one of those relationship charts and it had the ages of all the main characters on it; the oldest character is ... Lloyd! XD He's an ancient 29. :) And so far the youngest is Nanaly (14).

That still leaves a lot of Princes unaccounted for somewhere...O_O!

Asa oither peoiple said, episode 3 Clovis gave names; as for Clovis' age, Asuka published it with the manga along with the other characters (not Cordelia or Schneizel's though, but my assumption at the moment is that they're older than Clovis).
Date/Time: 2006-11-06 10:41 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] thomasvye.livejournal.com
Oh oh! p.s, Schneizel also appears in the opening titles (we think it's him anyway!). I put a picture in this thread. ;)

And there's the interesting part of how dear old Lulu STILL identifies himself as a Britannian prince when it comes right down to it, despite his general hate and anger towards it all. You know it's something interesting.

Yes. >:) He's a bitter bitter man. ;)))

Lelouch (if he got the death note) would only reach his goal if he found no resistance: even if he killed every prince before him, I doubt noone would try to stop him getting the throne. In this way, the geass is better because although it has more limitations(like eye contact and only one time per person) it has more options of use.

One crucial diference between Light and Lelouch is Suzaku. Light has noone he considers friend, he is cold and does not worry with the consequences of his actions. But Lelouch is more human: he has a goal, noone changes his mind about it but he will not go as far as to kill someone that is his friend. Episode four proved this; he risked his entire plan and the trust of the rebels to save someone. Light would´nt do so for Misa.

...I wonder if the Geass can order a person to do what they don't know about , or using complex orders?? Like ordering a street thug to hunt down and kill another street thug AND leave a measage like "JUSTICE" around or something.

Probably, for in episode 5 (spoilers) they show a girl who was told by lelouch (using geass) to, everyday, do a plus mark on the wall.

...I don't read the manga... they SCREW the clamp characters.

I'll depend on you two for info I guess @.@ *heads feels better but still a bit screwy*

stupid LJ errors
Date/Time: 2006-11-06 23:30 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] clamp-hikari.livejournal.com
hmm... clamp always manages to draw characters younger than they acutually are. oh well, I can't tell age anyway
Date/Time: 2006-11-06 23:34 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] thomasvye.livejournal.com
I like the manga's style; it's softer. But I am not getting it for the artists as such, but for the story (and for the information and extra bits manga usually have within them). ^-^
Date/Time: 2006-11-06 23:36 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] thomasvye.livejournal.com
I think every manga artist does! This may be why I have become so keen on tracking age data...:DDD
Date/Time: 2006-11-06 23:39 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] clamp-hikari.livejournal.com
>>I like the manga's style
...which one?

I like the story too but I go for graphic too. In the manga world, Clamp is one of the few manga artists which I accept the quality of drawing... And the only one I love.

In my opinion, CCS and Code Geass is the only animes that captured the 'Clamp look'.

And about the manga characters's age, you're probably right but I'm picky about graphic. If they're ugly they're old--- I know not a good theory to go by
Date/Time: 2006-11-06 23:54 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] thomasvye.livejournal.com
The Code Geass manga. It's a softer looking thing, but some of the faces in it were nice.

Takeshi Obata is the only manga artist whose work I have ever stopped and stared at for itself; I am a story/character driven fan.
Date/Time: 2006-11-07 00:08 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] clamp-hikari.livejournal.com
kk, but Code Geass has two, lelouch and Suzaku... *shrug* me art picky type. Even if the faces looks a little bit off I complain. (I even complain for x clamp that their faces changed quite a few times over the years)

...Hikaru no Go? ...Different opinions I guess
Yeah Hikaru no Go was one of those mangas that did qualified... you won't believe how many don't
Date/Time: 2006-11-07 00:21 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] thomasvye.livejournal.com
People's faces do change though, and artists evolve. :)

Hikaru no Go was nice, but it was Death Note that I could stare and stare at. It used to amaze me, week after week, and the quality never seemed to slip. I was sad when Death Note ended; such constant eye candy.

Can't argue with the evidence! ^-^b

Might be...or I could just scan it! XD

Oh I liked X vo.9~13ish? that was the best... then by volume 18&19, Kamui's face changed... and Sorata looks older. You can tell when you flip thought X artbooks which ones are done at what period. At least I can anyway

My manga criteria: art, not demented.Good drawing, no chibis or machos (not that many anyways)
Character not mary sues or princesses, or save-the-world idiots
story not boring.... etc
