My guess is that, going off the trailer, CC did something that eradicated either a) their contract or b) she died. I don't think she's dead, given that there's art involving her, so I think when she kissed him, that took it away. It didn't happen instantaneously because perhaps she needed to die again for the break to officially happen.
That's NOT entirely profound, but that's my guess.
