And I guess "quirky" wasn't the right word for it. "Sad" would work. "Shortsighted" would also work. Also, "damned foolish", given how intelligent and strategic he normally is. Surely, he could at least have played upon their emotions a little bit?
Clovis' death was damn tragic, IMO. Maybe even more so than Euphie's. They both seemed to honestly care for Lelouch and Nunnally, and he only acted the way he did in order to avenge their supposed deaths, in a way. At least Euphie was a clear and imminent danger to everyone and everything. His death, on the other hand, was purely retributive and rather unneeded. Jeremiah is in the same boat, too. I felt honestly sorry for him, but he seemed to have gone crazy, so they at least have a viable out for the plot.
