On a magazine scan I saw, wasn't Lelouch holding the king and C.C. was behind him holding his queen? I'm pretty sure it was his queen--after all, it's highly doubtful that the piece she was holding was a pawn or any other piece, since none of them except the queen seem to suit her, unless she was holding a pawn signifying that she could be in control of things.
I'm pretty sure on the official site's gallery it's on the month for October. Although it may not be canon, I'm sure it counts for something >.<
