When I first heard that they were dubbing Code Geass, I was fairly devestated. I'm just a tad obsessed with the anime, and I didn't want it turning into some fad that people watch only because it's an anime and it's on Adult Swim. I didn't want them choosing voice actors that would clash with my favorite characters.
So my dad called me an elitist.
I thought about it for a while. I've decided that more good things will come from it than bad. I'll be able to purchase more merchandise from stores that are just down the street. There will be even more doujinshi. I'll have more people to roleplay it with. More people will know what I'm talking about when I ramble on about it. I'll be able to find more Code Geass cosplayers at Anime Expo. To top it all off, my friend who I've been trying to get into it for ages agreed that she would watch the dub, since she hates reading subtitles.
Maybe I won't like the voices as much. Maybe they won't be as good. What matters the most is that more people will learn about it. The hardcore anime fans that catch it on TV and those of us that prefer the subs can still watch the subs. I totally understand where your coming from because I was there, too. I think that in the end it's better to take all the good that it will bring and just not watch the dubs if it really bothers you. Can you really complain about more readily available merchandise? :3
