"Do you remember?" Gino asked her.
"I do," Anya said. He was laughing beside her, his eyes shut and head held back. They were at the Saturday morning market, wandering through the streets.
She had lied, though. She didn't remember, but it was written in her diary, waiting faithfully to remind her: At the beach ... He'd gotten caught in a riptide, and Suzaku dived in to pull him out, catching him barely, by the hem of his shorts. He almost died, but he was laughing the whole time.
"That guy can - Huh? Oh!! Oy, Suzaku! Over here!" Gino said, and he ran towards Suzaku. Anya followed him.
       "Suzaku!"
"Gino. Anya. What are you doing here at the market? Aren't you living in Ashford?" Suzaku asked.
"Well, now that you're here..." Gino said smoothly.
Anya, why are you glaring at me? Did I do something wrong?" Suzaku asked.
"I'm not glaring at you," Anya said, in her usual deadpan monotone. She wasn't.
"Oy, come on, lighten up!" Gino said, and he put his arms across Suzaku's shoulders. Anya pictured herself pressing the button to shoot Mordred's Hadron canon towards Suzaku. She always felt powerful with her thumb over that button.
"So you're actually buying groceries? Cool!" Gino said to Suzaku.
"Cecile asked me to get some things for her: wasabi paste, fresh whipped cream, olive oil," Suzaku said. "Weird ingredients, right? By the way, Gino, I can't breathe." Gino had been holding his arm around his neck, and it was mildly suffocating him.
"My bad," Gino said, loosening his grip. Suzaku took a deep breath. He thought he noticed Anya glaring at him again, but she looked quickly away. It wouldn't be possible that...?

"Kallen Stadtfeldt? The Black Knights Ace Pilot!" Gino said, pointing to the red-haired girl in front of them. "This is the first time I've seen you in commoner's clothing! Suits you!"
"No, I'm sorry, you've gotten the wrong person," she said.
"Kallen, let me talk with you -" Suzaku started, but she had dashed off.
"Oh, a game of tag!" Gino said. He let go of Suzaku and left in pursuit. Anya opened her diary and started a new entry.
Kallen looked behind her. The Knight of Three was close on her heels. Behind him was Suzaku, and also following, the Knight of Six, though the pink-haired pilot seemed to be typing on her cellphone at the same time. "Seriously, at a time like this," Kallen muttered.
"Oy, she's fast," Gino said, grinning. He was a head taller than her, he knew he could catch up.
Why is he chasing after her? He can't really be interested in her, only because she has big -
A taiyaki stand caught Kallen's eye. "Perfect!" She turned sharply to the right, and disappeared behind the booth.
"Don't think I didn't see that," Gino yelled after her, and raced towards the takoyaki stalls. Then, it happened. The smell of taiyaki grilling wafted towards his nose...and he slowed down.

       "Hm...?"
"Oy Gino - " Suzaku said, sweating.
       "Giving up?" Anya said.
       "What is this?"
"It's taiyaki, obviously " Suzaku started, "But -"
"This smells incredible! I'll take one and my friends will too!" Gino said to the man at the taiyaki booth.
"Gino!" Suzaku whined. He was sweating through his shirt.
"No worries," Gino said, wrapping his arm over Suzaku's shoulders. "Oh, and what's this..Takoyaki? I wonder what this tastes like?" He paid the men at both booths, and passed the food around.
"Nothing like commoner food after some exercise, right?" he said. "What's the matter, Anya?"
"I don't like takoyaki," she said. Gino felt that her answer sounded a little cold, but he shrugged it off, and continued to lean on Suzaku.
"Hey, you. I want five of those fish-shaped things," a green-haired girl said to the man at the taiyaki booth.
"C.C.!" Suzaku pushed Gino's arms off of him, and grabbed her wrists.
"Hey, Suzaku, no need to be so rough. Green hair? That's unusual!" Gino said.
       Green hair is weird..
"Hey, Suzaku! Get your hands off of her! Are you trying to take someone else from me again!"
       "Lelouch!"
       "Sempai?"
Lelouch tried to pull C.C.'s arm out of Suzaku's grip, but found he could not. He should have remembered; Suzaku's grip was more faithful than a pair of handcuffs. He knew from that time when they were playing -
"Hey, idiots, I just want my taiyaki," C.C. said.
"You're coming with me, too, Lelouch," Suzaku said. "Gino, you hold Lelouch."
"Okay - " Gino said, and was about to hold Lelouch back by the shouders, but Lelouch had hidden behind C.C. with surprising agility, and Gino lost his balance, falling across Suzaku and C.C.'s arm, breaking the bond.
"Ah!" C.C. fell towards Anya, trying to hold on to the girl, but instead bringing her down on top of her. A flash of light, then -
"I remember," Anya said, looking at C.C. and Lelouch -
