i'm one of the people few who care less whether Lelouch is alive or dead.
I don't really think Lelouch being alive would destroy everything he had done. I don't think it would ruin the whole 'sacrifice' thing. I mean, even if he's alive somewhere, alone or with C.C, he'll still suffer. heck, Nunnally was his life and he can't be with her any longer. we all know how much Lelouch values his loved ones. don't you all think it's pretty much a huge sacrifice too to part from them??
i love his epic end. it's sad, depressing, bitter and shit that he died while almost everyone thinks he's the bad guy when he's really not. but what's important is that, the dearest people to him knew the truth - Kallen, C.C, Suzaku, and especially Nunnally. the rest of the world can go to hell & think whatever they want. I damn hope Cornelia knew the truth too. AND OMG JEREMIAH WINS TONS OF AFFECTION IN THIS EP. he was happy. he died fulfilling what he wanted in life. and that's what matters. his smile in the end can prove that. there was no lie in that smile.
whether it was death or life he had as a sacrifice, atonement, or punishment, redemption or whatever. he's still the most awesome character ever. I love the man.
