I really don't remember if there was something interesting about this pairing there, but the variability in characters was pleasently higher than in other contexts.
Indeed almost every canon or canon-hinted pairing in CG are quite cliché: Chiba, Cécile and Guilford are victim of a massive I'dNeverAdmitBUTId'SOshagMyBoss-complex, Suzaku and Euphie fall into the fairytale love category, Shirley and Rivalz suffered from the obnoxious hopeless teenage crush... but since it's an anime and not the most complex and innovative serial, we might fogive them all and love them for what they are
