I am so glad. =D I've always believed him dead. I've been wanting the end that we got since the beginning of the first episode I watched, pretty much.
And apparently CC's whole "Geass does not bring only solitude" thing was supposed to mean that her memories of Lelouch would remind her that she had been loved...? Or something? I learn this from Wiki, though, so it's iffy.
Anyway, even with the confirmation it doesn't much matter... it's like JKR's "Dumbledore is gay!" comment. A lot of people will decide that if it's not in the actual canon it doesn't have to be taken as canon, which is perfectly fine of course. Even I, with my "HE'S DEAD. LEAVE IT AT THAT >_>" have to admit that the ending was pretty darn ambiguous and they left a lot of possibilities open in the actual episodes... hm.
But I dunno, I think it's way better that he's dead. I dunno why people want him alive... if he was happy with CC, it would seem to kind of cheapen the ending (and most people wanting him to be alive appear to want him to also be happy) and if he took CC's Code and ends up alone, he actually gets a way more depressing end. Guh, that reminds me of this really sad fanfic I read... >_>
I honestly just prefer C.C. dead with Lelouch as well. As much as I love Pizza Butt, C.C. in a peaceful world with no need for Geass is a horrible ending without the only man she has loved.
I like to believe that she gave Suzaku a Geass to enable him to pull off being Zero convincingly (Like, I dunno, it changes his voice or gives him extra gay movement or something) and that eventually she gave him her Code and then she got to die. And hence Suzaku lives as Zero forever... but. That's fanfiction-ish wishful thinking on my part, so... >_>
I dunno, I also kind of like the idea of her going on forever and ever, alone. I mean, she was in the background at the beginning and narrator (sort of) throughout season one... it's nice and melancholy to think of her as the observer from the sidelines who just sort of remembers everything... hm...
I have just as wishful thinking for willing to stubbornly believe that Lelouch is alive and the only compromise I'll ever believe Lelouch is dead is that C.C. is dead. After all, Sunrise couldn't even give us her ASFDJFDADJK name.
But really I was so glad they got rid of her narrations at the beginning of the episodes near the end of season two. Considering that the series itself was rushed, it definitely ticked me off that they didn't seriously consider using all that was open to them beforehand where it finally broke through at that Code Geass really had to end and then they took that issue seriously. However when that ended, it arose the possibility that C.C. may die for some dynamic Sunrise drama.
She can't even recall her past which was the point of her loneliness and her wish for death, but generally Season Two embraced and magnified few ideas and then painfully destroyed lots of continuity and potential that Season One poked into our heads. C.C.'s missing scar and then suddenly C.C has her own Chamber of Memories.
It's just that from Geass only serves to cause chaos through a power shift, being given an advantage to exploit others. In Lelouch's world, there is no need for a Geass-giving witch. Maybe by not being a witch, she regains her humanity and is no longer C.C. However, she is useless to a peaceful world.
