Didn't Kallen's brother die in the first episode of Code Geass? I thought he was the guy who blew himself up with the truck?

Nope. That was some other random red shirt. Kallen's brother, Naoto, died pre-series. And he's why both Kallen and Ougi got into the resistant movement.
