Nope, the text has it right. The idea of the "geass" being like a "wish". Getting something accomplished that you couldn't otherwise do on your own.

Suzaku and Lelouch have a whole conversation about it in a flashback in the last episode.

Canon is facts. A statement open to interpretation isn't.

The fact that the statement is printed on the scan is canon though.
