Hello! I'm a lurker on this comm usually, but my friend encouraged me to post about this, incase anyone wanted to know what the Geass cafe was like... My experience is completely uninteresting, I apologize. orz (and I also have a lot of things that are irrelevant to the description, this was all taken directly from my personal journal... anyway!)
There are only a few pictures under the cut, but they are HUGE. So please beware. And enjoy (if possible)! ♥
"My main reason for being in Tokyo? Code Effing Geass. Yes. Last Thursday,
mossygirl and I were talking, and she mentions a special event going on at some maid cafe in Akihabara. Anyway, the event was a Code Geass themed menu with special drinks and desserts, and it was only going on for about a week.
Naturally my first reaction was OMG I HAVE TO GO FOR THE LULUPANCAKES because yeah, they had Zero Hot Cakes. You can't make this mess up. And since it was only temporary, it was either go and be amazed or stay home and regret never tasting the sweetness of a Suzaku!cocktail or something. So, having never been to a maid cafe before in my life and having never gone to Tokyo BY MYSELF, I gathered all my courage, scribbled down some poor directions, and set off on Saturday morning at 5 o'clock. I wanted to get there early in case I ended up getting lost like an idiot.
Surprisingly, I made it, and it WAS a good idea to have left so ridiculously early, as there were already two people waiting in line when I got there. According to
mossygirl, maid cafes always have waiting times. The two people were, naturally, shocked to see a foreigner, especially one who knew what the hell Code Geass was. They didn't say anything to me though. Then two other women approached to wait, and one of them chatted with me briefly, ALSO shocked to know I knew Code Geass. Then she started talking to me about how she had watched some of the show in English on her DVD, and she said she was so surprised at how much Lelouch's English voice matched Jun Fukuyama's. She said Johnny Yong Bosch did a very good job. I didn't know what else to say except UM THANKS, WE'RE PROUD OF HIM TOO. (except I wasn't that impressed. .... NOT THAT I DON'T LOVE YOU, JOHNNAY~) The whole thing was kind of hilarious and surreal actually. Standing out in the hot sun discussing voice actors in broken Japanese... Something I never knew I wanted, but yeah. Meeting Japanese fans of this series pretty much made my life.
I got there at 10 o'clock, and the place was to open at 11. During that hour, the line increased exponentially and we all sweated through our clothes until finally they opened the doors, and we were whisked inside the cool, air conditioned building. A girl in a maid costume came out and put up a sign announcing the Code Geass special and everything. Me and the girl standing ahead of me rushed to take a picture, and we were promptly told to delete them. ... fff. That was a little upsetting, but no worries, I have a few, so I didn't leave completely empty handed.
We went up to the sixth floor of the building to find the cafe. It was a gorgeous little place, small but very refined looking. Not to mention PLASTERED with Geass stuff all over but still managing to look classy. I was placed at a table with a picture of Anya and Gino in a pretty frame over my head. I didn't see a Suzaku portrait anywhere, so I didn't mind so much (not that I would DEMAND to be moved or anything). A maid came over to take my order. I should mention at this point I had gone past the point of no return and in the middle of fangasming and trying to control my breathing, so I quickly blurted something out. I said I wanted to try those Lulucakes, right? Well it turns out, there are two versions-- One with the Geass emblem, and then one with Zero on it. I stupidly didn't make the distinction (like I said, too busy shaking at my table and looking around like a small animal on speed). SO, I ended up with the emblem one. Which is okay, I'm sure it tastes like how Lelouch would taste too. It was basically two pancakes with whipped cream and blueberry sauce in the middle. Tastay~
The drinks were the main part of the fun for me however. Everything on the menu had some connection with Geass of course, and there was a drink for six of the main characters. I scribbled down a list of them and their ingredients/flavors:
Lelouch -- Blue Hawaii, blueberry flavoring, soda, and a cranberry
C.C. -- Melon flavoring, calpis
Suzaku -- Chocolate flavoring, milk, coffee
Kallen -- Blueberry and strawberry flavoring, ginger ale
Euphemia -- Strawberry and yogurt flavoring, soda
Schneizel -- Blue Hawaii, yogurt flavoring, ginger ale
NOTHING on this menu was cheap, let me tell you. So I ordered only two drinks (I would have tried them all, but I think it would have made me seriously ill). Can you guess which two I ordered? I bet you can't! :D :D :D
... Lelouch's was delightfully crisp and refreshing, and I loved the color of his. It was a nice thing to drink on a hot day. Really good. SUZAKU'S however... Okay, I love coffee. No lie. So. I loved his. That about sums that up.
Other things on this glorious menu? Jeremiah ORANGE PARFAIT (I laughed about this for about 10 minutes), Black Knights-inspired curry (which was just... curry with black sauce. It had the consistency of tar and tasted like motor oil, but whatever, it's the concept rather than the food, right?!), and there was one dish I remember that involved Purin/Pudding, pasta, and Lloyd's name, but you couldn't order that one for some reason. So yeah. Mindblowing. This was one of those epically "Only in Japan" moments that I would gladly relive over and over again, if possible.
And now, pictures. they actually let you take pictures of the food after you got it, but they stood and watched to make sure that's all you did:

*sneakily took this in the elevator*
Geass-hotcakes + Lelouch

Black Knight curry + Suzaku (I... don't recommend this combination. Ugh.)"
And that's all. Sorry for the boring post. xD If this is against the rules, please let me know!!
