You know, if people only saw the promotional art for this series, they'd think it was a fanservice anime -.- I'm beginning to wonder if there'll be any official art where the girls wear something that actually covers their ass when they bend over...
I stopped watching it because I realised that I hated every single character in the entire series and hoped they all died horrible messy deaths. Also, the way that most character designs looked like either something from Sunrise/CLAMP had created before (Euphie/Lacus, Orange-kun/Desert Tiger dude etc. etc.) I just gave up and watched Gundam Seed Destiny instead :D
lmao, that's great. XD But yeah, I agree on the character designs, so much. (Suzaku=Syaoran, Lulu=TRC!Kamui) Although it backs up my 'CLAMP have no originality' thesis. XD
Atleast Seed Destiny is never ending then, huh? XD
XD It's a sexy anime pic for fanboys! lol. It would be total double standards for us to drool over the fangirl service and condemn the fanboy's stuff as sexist. Taste, of course, is subjective.
What's wrong with fangirls liking girl pics? =( You could also say it's demeaning to assume men like stuff that's in such bad taste.
But...XD
I didn't mean that having girl!fanservice is sexist, as I said, I like fanservice of girls, but I just think these are really in bad taste although very American, the sluts=hot thing. XD
At any rate, I'm glad you changed your reply to something more light hearted. =D I'm not meaning to sound angry/defensive.
Lol, but like I say, taste is subjective; what you think is bad taste, someone else thinks is heaven indeed. XDD
(I am not angry at all either ^-^ but I am really surprised that people who watch anime are even bothered; this stuff is so ubiquitous I guess assume no one pays it much attention! I mean...it's annoying *in* the show, when characters do nothing else either as people or in the story, but in magazines and fanart, pin ups will be pin ups! XD)
I think it's probably because it's so continual and it totally doesn't reflect on what the show is actually like. =/ But naaah, in general, bring on the fanservice! XD
I think I probably would... I mean, fanservice is good, but what about the actual, you know, plot of the series? Very rarely do you see promo art actually promoting what the series is actually about.
And also, both female and male, yuri, yaoi and het fanservice appeals to me so... It's not like I make some half-crazed distinction like "lolz0rs lulu-chan and syaoran-kun Suzaku are so hotz together. ew girl bits."
As the majority of this post is lost on me and I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot by pointing out the obvious why, I'm just going to clarify that the two promo images (not the Clamp one) in this post reference the Drama CDs. Which are that whacky combo of crack and serious plot. Just so you know. Also, the magazine art and the show are not joined at the hip. This is not Geass promoting itself; it's Animedia or NewType or PASH doing it for the series. So yeah it's going to focus on either the boy or girl side of the pretty. Sex sells.
The abundance of art of this kind promoting Code Geass IS taking the piss a little though. I mean, Gundam Seed and the like had it, but they also had serious and just generally NICE images for promotion too (although it was a Gundam series, so they could probably get away with it.)
Regardless of what the images are for, the fact remains that I'm tired of seeing C.C.'s ass/breasts/legs put on display when there is much more to the series than that. It's like all the kitty!Lelouch pictures or even the Lelouch/Suzaku joined-at-the-ear thing. Sex may sell, that doesn't mean that it's the only thing you should use to promote something.
Maybe I'm not a very good otaku, because I generally don't see the point in fanservice of this kind. Of course, I appreciate that there are some who do, and may their pocket protectors be blessed, however I was merely saying that there is so much official fanservice art produced for this anime, that it's almost indistinguishable from Air or Love Hina or any other the many other anime where it's 1 boy/many girls.
C.C., Kallen and even Shirley, are strong female characters. I'm tired of them being portrayed as an otaku's wet dream.
I get what you're saying. I personally don't mind a little fan service now and then, you know, like a little moment but even if these pictures aren't intended to promote Geass, they are. Tons of people on my f-list who weren't interested at first started seeing these sort of images and now they're following the series.
Yeah, it really has nothing to with the series but:
1. Geass shot to popularity QUICKLY. Time to cash in. $$$ (Like how FFVII won't stop making games for each character. :D) 2. even if people won't watch the anime, hey, you want sexy merchandise? Just buy these though!
AIR is different though. Isn't it from a H-game? Or eroge or something.
Unfortunately, most girls (and guys) in anime are portrayed in pin-ups and other merchandise as eye candy. It does detract from the characters though. D: Heck, I've heard complaints against Shirley because not only "is she useless but a fan service character".
Fan service isn't supposed to have a point but it wouldn't kill the artists to stop objectifying their characters, who I find really interesting, for once.

But when CC's ass is splattered over every Newtype, the chauvinism buzzers go off and I loose the drive to catch up.
But I rally should soon, I'm SO behind.

no-one shoot me pliskinda anti-feminist. =/Course, it'd be kinda funny if Lulu was making that pose CC's doing, but also very scary. XD
