Question regarding Suzaku in ep. 25

Hey guys, since everyone else is already flipping out over 24 and 25, I'll leave my personal reactions out for now. ^^; They're pretty much the same as everyone else's anyway, with the exception that...

I LOVE LELOUCH'S HAIR FLYING AROUND WHEN HE GETS SHOT! Okay, I'm done. Just had to get that off my chest. And I know people have mentioned it already but I <3 the CC/Lelouch scene. Short, sweet, and stunningly beautiful along with a lot of character development (or as much as we'll get) on CC's side.

Okay, question though. When Suzaku shot off Lulu's helmet and said that he already knew... somehow... and just wanted to "believe" Lulu, I'm REALLY confused on how he already knew. I know the_sports_geek already mentioned that Your Mom subtitles are... interesting (XD) but at that point in the story they totally lost me. Did VV tell Suzaku? Or did Suzaku figure it out on his own a long time ago? (And if so, when? @_________@)

I think it was more that Suzaku expected that Zero was Lelouch. But because Lelouch was his friend he put those thoughts out of his mind.

I think he started to make connections from before Euphie's death. I can't pin point a certain point in the series when he might have begun to think it, but probably during that fight when Lelouch gave Suzaku that power supply for the Lancelot, he probably started to see the similarities, if he hadn't before that. But even so, he didn't want to believe that his theories were true, because him and Lelouch were best friends. So he made himself try to ignore it all.

I don't think he KNEW though. When Lelouch's face was first relieved, you could see the surprise in Suzaku's face. Then everything he had begun to put together that made him think Lelouch = Zero in the first place was confirmed to be true. I don't think anyone told him before that, Cornelia couldn't have because she said "she couldn't remember" and was too out of it because of the Geass and her wounds. And because of the flashback, we can see it wasn't V.V.

Ahhhh okay, that makes complete sense now! ^^ I think I was just trying too hard to follow the strange subtitles and soak in all the awesomeness at the same time. XD (I still think VV is a nosy bastard. D: )

Personally, I think Suzaku had inklings when Zero saved him and when Zero stopped outright trying to kill him after his role as Lancelot's pilot was revealed, not to mention the numerous times they've discussed Zero amongst themselves. Lelouch likes dropping hints, whether subconsciously or otherwise. Suzaku is obviously not as clueless as some in fandom took him to be. Essentially, they were both trying to win the other to their side throughout.

Whoa, that's a great way of putting it. Love the part where you said Lulu drops hints... He's also not a PERFECT actor so people start to pick up on things eventually. (Unlike in other animes where things are obvious and no one notices. XD I love Sailor Moon dearly, but not noticing the girl's identities...)

You have to remember Euphie figured it out. And Cornelia didn't seem overly surprised by the revelation either. That probably has more to do with Euphie's willingness to work with a known terrorist who killed her brother.

That's true actually. Maybe I'm just terrible as a detective, Euphie finding out was a shock to me, more so than Suzaku finding out (mainly because I was expecting it at some point...) Again, kind of bumped Suzaku and Euphie a level higher than where I originally put them. ^^;

Also, they all know Lelouch, know Lelouch is a royal prince with a grudge and, most of all, know the way he *thinks*. Zero's way of thinking is not that different from Lulu's. They are both daring, highly strategic, and method-oriented.

Lelouch was never very secretive about his desire to destroy Britannia. :-)

That never sat comfortably with me. That she continued to work with Lelouche even though she knew he was Zero. Who'd murdered her other brother. I thought much less of Euphemia after that.

You do strange things for the person you love. That's the only explanation I can give.

But again, Clovis was never an innocent either, and essentially massacred a whole slew of people just to protect himself and his lost project. I'm not saying that Euphie felt her brother was justified in killing him, but she also knows his rage at the family. I'm hoping the next drama CD will shed more light on the inner workings of the Britannian royals.

Don't forget that Zero has a similar goal in the eyes of many: freeing the Japanese. Euphie knows that she would have more luck in her Special Administration Zone if she has the support of Zero, the people's hero. Politics often cause people to take up strange bedfellows. That said, the overwhelming reason is still her love for Lelouch.

Lelouch who she hadn't even seen since schildhood. Maybe it's just me, but...I didn't like it. It made me doubt Euphemia had any true depth of feeling at all. She appeared to mourn Clovis. But put another brother - his murderer, indeed - in front of her, and there was not even a trace of anger at him? Not even questions? Clovis's murder dropped totally off the radar. Wow. Her grief must have been that deep. :{ Yeah. I lost a lot of respect for Euphemia.

What Clovis did didn't bother me, *in that* he was just his Father's son, doing what he was raised to do, except he was just totally rubbish at it. Great artist; appalling, selfish, hopeless leader. No one in Code Geass is totally innocent. Except Nunally, apparently, and we all know how appallingly dull she is to watch.

Her first love. I also like meomnimi's note that Euphie didn't want to see anyone else hurt. She couldn't save Clovis, but she could save the peace between the Japanese and Britannia and possibly Lelouch by working together on her plan. She needs Zero in order for it to work on full scale, as I've said before.

I feel that it's simply because Euphie couldn't stand seeing anyone hurt, nor hold a grudge against Lulu.

Well, Euphie had strange relationships with her half-brothers... To me, she didn't seem to know Clovis very well at all. She seemed surprised at how well he painted (though a close sister probably would have known that.) On the other hand, Lulu, Euphie and Nunally apparently were very close when they were children, so its more or less Euphie's childhood friend/brother/crush vs a brother she didn't really know. ^^; That's just me though.

I was quite surprised by the "I knew it but I was in denial" too.

My guesses:
-Episode 3, when Zero frees Suzaku from Orange-kun and calls him "baka" for not joining his cause, Suzaku:"I had a dear friend who used to call me baka all the time"
-Ehm, the voice? It didn't work with Kalle, but a trained soldier (who knows how to modify HIS voice, see Picture Book 07) should be able to recognize voices
-Maybe he just saw the mask on Arthur ne?^^;;;;;;

I think Suzaku may have had some suspicions about Lelouch being Zero for a while but never really put much stock into them until about the phone conversation at the end of 23-- I can't figure out any way that Suzaku's "You're doing it for Nunnaly?" line makes any sense if he doesn't think that Lelouch is Zero at that point. I kind of doubt his suspicions were anything serious until that point or perhaps a bit earier given that the fact that Euphemia was so willing to work with Zero was another big hint; either way I don't think Suzaku really suspected beyond something like "hmm, that kind of reminds me of Lelouch, but that's not possible" until at least that point. Anyhow, even then he hadn't confronted Lelouch directly and hadn't completely confirmed his suspicions (he still doesn't want to believe it), so when he's face-to-face with Lelouch/Zero there's no way he can just ignore it anymore.

In large part it's probably partly a "hindsight is 20/20" kind of thing, there were definately hints and signs as to Zero's identity since very early on, but I really don't think Suzaku genuinely suspected him until much later, but having picked up on some of the hints earlier and immediately discarding them gives the sense that he did know for a long time (from Suzaku's perspective that is, kind of like if you notice some detail on a mystery show implicating character A but then immediatly dismissing it for one reason or another and then at the end when it is revealed that character A did it, even though you may not have been really suspecting them prior to that point having picked up on that early hint makes you feel like you figured it out earlier).

And that was much longer than I had intended it to be....

Hahaha that does make a lot of sense though. :3 Plus Suzaku is a genuinely optimistic person --he's smart, but he'll put his heart over his head a lot of times (especially regarding Zero, Lulu, and Euphie.) I know that feeling a lot too XD Its like when you play CLUE or some other game and you're like ">_O!!! DAMMIT! I SHOULDA KNOWN!" (But you kept doubting yourself...)
