Character 'hate' debate

Apologies if this sort of post has already been mentioned. But I'm really curious with why people hate dislike certain characters from Code Geass.

Personally I really don't like Shirley. I could pull out the generic character card, but there are a lot of characters that can apply to this (I'm looking at you, Euphemia/Lacus clone). But to be realistic, not EVERY single character in Code Geass is going to be original. Hell, some say Lelouch is a Light rip-off. I would hate her less if she wasn't set up to be a romantic possibility for Lelouch. But I just don't like her personality type. Though, to be superficial, what the character looks like is also a factor ^^; For example, I actually don't think Euphemia is all that bad.

Basically, state the character that you hate/dislike and explain your reasoning. I'm interested in those who aren't fond of Suzaku (I'm sort of surprised why some do). It can be anything as long as it isn't incoherent character bashing.

[Edit: Dislike is a better way to put it. Doesn't mean you can't hate either xD]

It's interesting how people's opinions on the same characters differ, eh? I have my like/dislike times with Suzaku but I think Lelouch is the most adorable thing ever ♥

I don't hate Shirley either! She's not my favorite character, but I gained a lot of respect for her after she apologized for kissing Lulu. She truly felt bad for taking advantage of him in her grief, and she gives the image of a normal girl stuck up in a mess because of who she fell in love with ;_;

Honestly, I never really took to anyone in Code Geass until Mao came along. God, I love Mao, and I'd say why, but ahaha, not the right post to do that!

Suzaku is one of the bigger irks to me. I don't hate him, but I don't love him. I'm more on the dislike side, but juuuuust kinda teetering there. It's more because he seems to be able to do anything. He can de-whatever-it-is-when-you-stop-a-bomb-from-exploding (pardon my French) while the bomb is hanging off a wire and swinging, he's the best pilot for Lancelot, he saves people while chasing after another Knightmare frame, and he's Euphie's knight despite his Japanese upbringing? Geez, I thought it was a bit overkill. It worked out in the end, and Suzaku does have his downfalls that make up for this, but it just really. Really. Bothers me.

Nina. NINA FREAKS ME OUT, MY GOD GET HER AWAY. I just can't watch her on-screen anymore, especially after the last two episodes. She needs HELP, man. Get her off screen and give her a therapist, please, she's scaring me! Do it for my sanity.

Those are really the only two. besides that, I like everyone else, faults and all. The more faults and the more skewed their perspective is, the better. The only exceptions are these two.

Your soo right, she apologized to him because of what she did, and she suffered a lot after that - with all the Mao thing. I don't really understand why people hate her so much.
I understand that she's "happy", friend of everybody and a little dramatic xD but she's nice and care about her friends, and of course, she was a girl who was in love T.T
Even Suzaku encouraged her to be with Lulu (at least, he wanted her to tell Lulu her feelings T.T)

As downright BIZARRE as it sounds, when Suzaku first joins the student council around the 6th or 7th episode or whatever I totally thought Sunrise was going to have Nina go for him in the end.

Because, like, she was all scared of him and stuff in the beginning, right? But he's a total woobie douche. So I thought he might win her over or something, in the end.

If there was a character I had to say I hated...probably Viletta. What she did to Ougi was ass. True, their subplot was just kinda out there to fill screen time but shooting him in the stomach was kinda fail. One could ARGUE that since she didn't shoot to kill she's not THAT much of a bitch, but come on, if The da Vinci Code has taught us anything it's that stomach wounds are a horrible way to die. :P

(Also, what's funny is, I absolutely ADORE Suzaku yet do find his bizarre superhuman traits to be really off-putting. RUNNING SIDEWAYS UP A WALL??? WHAT???)

What, no, this isn't my Mao journal, what are you saying. He is, and the best part is, is that beneath the crazy, he's actually kinda sweeeeet. You know, past the chainsaws and all.

Viletta. Yes. Fail. The subplot was eeeeh, but that scene? Really awesome to watch, but morally FAIL. *not a short answer, no*

Word about Suzaku. I love him to bits, but damnit, he's too righteous for his own good sometimes.


I've never really gotten the appeal of CC. I don't particularly dislike her. It's more of an indifference, except when she's making Lulu mad, which is always amusing.

No, seriously, I saw her typing at her computer in the first (second?) episode, and I had this strong feeling that I wasn't going to like her.

... I'm totally going to be lynched for this, but I cannot fucking stand V.V. Hell, his involvement was part of the reason why I didn't bother watching the last two episodes. He just felt like a totally random, deus-ex-machina type character thrown in to further the plot -- and for some reason, he reminded me of Feldrance from Mahoromatic, who I also hate to bits and pieces. Plus, he just... really felt like a male rip-off of C.C., who was awesome. ( and yeah, I'm aware that Suzaku might not have known about Lelouch's Geass because of him, but there could have been a workaround for that! )

Also Nina is frightening :C

I love Shirley, though. I felt that she was one of the easier characters to relate to, had I been thrown into a situation like she was; I probably would have reacted the same as she did. I felt terrible for her after episode 14 happened. ;;

(I actually surprised myself because I really started to like Shirley. Originally, I saw her as the Yuiko to Lelouch's Ritsuka, but I really really do love her in the episodes where she takes a more pivotal role.)

Nunnally - I don't know what it is about a Mary Sue blind cripple that makes me so irritated by, my God. The only thing she ever does in the series is get kidnapped repeatedly. What is it, like three people? She's basically a sitting duck for any and all sabotage against Lelouch.

Nina - Well, she scares the hell out of me. And, you know what, I really didn't like her when she first got introduced. She just sat there, typing on her computer and something rubbed me the wrong way.


Wow, okay, maybe there's a middle school bully in my subconscious today. Whoa.

I've never really liked Euphie, either. Again, she's one of those Mary Sue characters in anime that I really don't like to see. I enjoy her when she's murderous, though.



For the record, I do love Suzaku. He's a little self-deprecating because he always as to do The Right Thing, but that's fine. It's a reasonable character flaw.

It's useless to add now since there are this many comments XD. But to make it short, here's my hated-character triumvirate:

1. Shirley - I'm tired of writing down my rationale so no rationale this time around.
2. Tamaki - just shut up.
3. Kaguya - disappear, little girl. You're unrealistic.

I'll rather go hug Nina than having the abovementioned around in S2. That's right.
