Apologies if this sort of post has already been mentioned. But I'm really curious with why people hate dislike certain characters from Code Geass.

Personally I really don't like Shirley. I could pull out the generic character card, but there are a lot of characters that can apply to this (I'm looking at you, Euphemia/Lacus clone). But to be realistic, not EVERY single character in Code Geass is going to be original. Hell, some say Lelouch is a Light rip-off. I would hate her less if she wasn't set up to be a romantic possibility for Lelouch. But I just don't like her personality type. Though, to be superficial, what the character looks like is also a factor ^^; For example, I actually don't think Euphemia is all that bad.

Basically, state the character that you hate/dislike and explain your reasoning. I'm interested in those who aren't fond of Suzaku (I'm sort of surprised why some do). It can be anything as long as it isn't incoherent character bashing.

[Edit: Dislike is a better way to put it. Doesn't mean you can't hate either xD]

SUZAKU. Oh God. I REALLY don't like him. XD He's so...y'know, righteous. Hypocritical is probably a better word. :/ He always talks about changing how everything is but just takes his orders. I mean, even if it is the "wrong methods" at least Lelouch DOES something.

I love Suzaku D: He's such an annoying Kira-wannabe with Coordina00r skills, but I think he's deeper and more interesting than that xD

I don't hate any character from Code Geass. Well, I do, but I know all of them have their good points. I would like Shirley if there wasn't that romantic possibility of ShirleyxLelouch too xD But she has some depth, she adds to Lelouch's harem (XDDD) and she's a fun character when she's with the rest of the Student Council being happy.

Euphemia looks and acts like Lacus, who I hate, so I sort of hate Euphie too (idealistic pink dolly princess xD). Plus I didn't like EuphiexSuzaku. But she makes certain parts of the story interesting. I like her relationship with Cornelia, and how she's sort of struggling out Britannian royalty's boundaries.

*slaps self* this is a HATE topic xD

I don't like C.C. much *HIDESZZ* After the first ep of the anime, I thought she was going to be one of those weak, overly insanely kind characters (a bit like Euphie). But it turned out she was harsh and independent. I normally would've loved that kind of character, but she came off as really arrogant to me. And I was a bit annoyed that she sort of just abandoned Mao rather than staying and helping him (even though he turned into a psycho dangerous idiot). And I don't like LelouchxC.C. *hides unger a hole* But again, she has her good points.

I get why some people hate Kallen (SEX OBJECT CHARACTER) but I love her since she can kick ass xD

I'm interested in why people hate Nunnally, I love her D:

I try not to associate the characters with others from different fandoms. Like the whole Lelouch = Light thing just kind of... makes me want to pull my hair out. I can understand certain aspects are similar but he's not Light. :I

Wait, what does a character's appearance have to do with anything? I could understand if they were extremely offensive looking (like never properly clothed but it depends on what floats your boat).

Personally, I don't hate any characters in Geass. (I think "hate" is a strong word.) Though, if there was any character I didn't really care for it would be Tamaki. He's just another follower of Zero's, doesn't care who gets hurt and cocky to the point I want erase his mouth.

To be honest, I didn't like Suzaku at all in the beginning, but only because Lulu's plans hadn't gone and screwed up people's lives at the time. I figured Suzaku was a hypocrite for being in the Britannian army but after watching further into the series, I realized he only wanted to protect people. It was more like, the more we saw of Lulu's personality, the more I began to dislike him on a personal level and like Suzaku more. BUT THAT'S JUST ME.

See with Lulu, it's like he'll take out anything in his path that doesn't agree with him. What he's doing is ...right (??????), but he's doing it in the wrong way. He doesn't have to go and blow up buildings and kill his siblings. I think there's better ways to reinforce a rebellion without having to sacrifice innocent people.

Shirley's character was "EHHH" for me in the beginning, too. But I really admire how she went out of the way to protect Lulu from Viletta (even if it was kind of a reflex) and then how she kept blaming herself and calling herself "selfish". Who said loving someone was selfish? You can't help it lol. So I did a 180 with her and began adoring her. But the thing with fandom they take ONE LITTLE THING about a character and magnify it 100x more. Then there's the haters who go and make up stuff to hate characters. Like calling Shirley a "whore" or something. ROFL HOW?

WAIT-- I totally remember which character I feel like kicking. I love Kallen, but she's really annoying to me now. I just can't stand how someone as brave as her is a blind follower. And the final episodes had me go, "???" because she suddenly... just stopped everything because she found out Lulu was Zero. I totally understand the SHOKKU of it but it's not like she even seemed to care about him before so yeah. :/

I just think fandom fails in general half the time. I'd say more but I'd get brick'd lol.

Actually, I think she's the one character who deserves the title. I mean, I have my moments where I hate Suzaku/Kallen/CC/whoever, but I don't think I've ever actually liked Nina.

I don't like Lelouch -hiddes- :/. He is an arrogant, selfish, just think about himself and Nunally (sometimes I doubt that too...). He uses the persons as he likes and urg... he is capable of killing his own friends if he need to ^^U. There are many ways of making a rebellion without wasting too much lives D: Although, sometimes I pity him D:

D: Suzaku-haters make me sad! I adore him tons and tons. He's a very subtle character, and he's pretty crazy, but it's not as blatant as, say, Lelouch's psychosis. Yes, he's a hypocrite, but that's part of what makes him so interesting. Lelouch has two sides - the ruthless rebellion leader, and the caring brother/friend. Suzaku is no different. He's made up of all sorts of layers and what you see throughout the series is not the whole picture. He's friendly, caring, kind, protective, righteous - but he's also cynical, impulsive, brash, and selfish. He's not really the epitome of the Honorable White Knight, just like Lelouch isn't merely the Menacing Black Prince. Neither of them are good people, but they're not outright horrid either. They've got good points and bad points, like anyone else. The big difference is that Lelouch acknowledges what he does wrong and how he acts in his own interests, while Suzaku needs to think of himself as good and pure-hearted in order to live with himself. But by the end, Suzaku is facing the facts and showing more of his true personality. He's such an intricate character, but the details tend to be lost and he's taken for face-value. :\

Er, rant aside, I don't think I hate anybody in the series. Or at least, hate would be a strong word. XD; I'm not fond of Schneizel because he reeks of Scheming Rat Bastard and as of now has no redeeming qualities. I don't like V.V. either for the same reason, though he's more of Bratchild. Lloyd grates on my nerves at times, but he can be amusing too. I've only recently begun to see Kallen in a positive light (her constantly being sexualized annoyed me and for a long time she was just a pair of walking boobs and boring personality).

Agreed. It's actually why I don't hate Suzaku, even though he annoys me at parts of the show. Sure I'm MAD at him, but I can't hate him =_= I think the main reason why I can't stand him a lot of the time is because he's criticizing and judging Zero even though he couldn't even handle judging and facing himself. And how in the end of eps25, he was judging Lelouch at face value - but a lot of that was probably due to impulsive rage (and the fact that he probably thought Lelouch purposely massacred an entire stadium of people.)

I like Lelouch more simply because at least he acknowledges his selfishness and the fact that some(many) of the things he's doing is wrong. He is a tyrant, and he lost his "true" goals near the end (the fact that he had to be reminded by CC that Nunally was why he was doing all this in the first place...) but he is determined and set out in making changes (for whatever reason it might be.) I find that more admirable. Which also makes him a scarier person really :P

I hate Shirley because.... heck I don't even know. Probably because she is a love interest and I am a Suzalulu shipper. It can't be because of her character because I felt bad for her for what Lelouch did to her.

I can't stand Nina. She scares me. She reminds me of those crazy stalker otaku who ends up kidnapping and murdering their idol and then committing suicide together so they can be "together forever"

the first character i disliked was euphemia. but after watching the whole thing and know how she is, i dont hate her that much. i dont like her role in the story, you could say. i dont have anything against her personally. if she doesnt turn out to be lulu/zero's biggest obstacle, if she doesnt make suzaku go to her side and conglomerate to become even bigger obstacles, i wouldnt have disliked her at all. of course, the fact that lulu liked/loved her softened my stand point too. so ya, just her role, not her personally.

and of course the 2nd one that i hate... i meant dislike, is suzaku. i didnt dislike him that much at the beginning but the more i watched... the more i knew... (like how he and lulu first met) i disliked him more. i dont like his righteousness. i dont like his stubbornness in his own ideas. he's the type of characters that nomatter what role he plays i'd dislike. prolly just opposite to euphie's XD of course, if he stayed on lulu's side, it'd be totally different =P

by the end of watching the entire season one... i hated 1. sunrise the most, 2. v.v who came to mess things up and 3. suzaku stupid w35%^E$^*&W$%^ >_> i wished they'd all just die <_< im just unreasonably on lulu's side so im totally biased XD

On the flip-side, I pretty much love everyone else. I think Lelouch is an excellent character, and I love how he interacts with Suzaku and C.C and Kallen, especially when he's being all Zero-y. I dig Lloyd, and Villetta, and Ogi - and most especially Villetta and Ogi's doomed relationship. AND ORENJI OF COURSE.

I'm not too fond of Suzaku. He just blindly follows orders even if he finds it wrong to be doing such a thing -_- and I don't think he understands Leouch's or even Kallen's feelings about why they hate Britania. I agree with Leouch about what he said about Suzaku killing his father. He stole the people's right to fight back, thus stealing their pride and forced them into a surrender. they had no choice but to be taken over and enslaved and become outcasts in their own country. It's one thing to go into an orginization and try to change it from the inside out, but he's not trying to do that. He became a tool and let himself be used. Like he was being tried for a murder he didn't commit and if they found him guilty they would have executed him...he was just going to except that? But now he's pissed and out for revenge and blood the second he loses someone he really cared about. Hypocrite? I think so...

I don't like Shirley. She the type of jealous, possessive, over bearing female characters I hate. Plus she's niave and too emotional. I'd take Lulu hook up like Milly or Kallen before I'd have him hook up with Shirley. Tho my OTP Is Lulu x CC X3

I like Euphie ^^ It's sad they killed her off the way they did.

And I can't help but compare her with Lacus [whom I also dislike]The resemblance is uncanny.

I only like her because her death and relationship with Suzaku, Lulu and Cornelia mad the story a lot more interesting.

i used to love euphemia but now she's my least favorite character. she's too perfect and i guarantee in season two some dirt is going to get dug up. also, no series destroys a character that badly and randomly unless they really deserved it. LOOK AT ROSSIU, FOR EXAMPLE.

Ahh...Shirley...I didn't like her. Like, the first time she popped up on the screen, something in my head went. 'I hate her.' like, she didn't even have to speak before I knew I wouldn't like her, ever. And I was right, as soooon as she started talking I was like, 'I hope...a broken robot arm...falls on you D: Right now....right now!' She just, and I HATE comparing anime's, but she just reminded me WAY to much of Tohru Honda from Fruits basket...Seriously. She was just SO annoying, too attached, too emotional, just plain annoying, if she wasn't crying she was being nosy about something, if she wasn't being nosy she was just being plain obnoxious. Dunno...Didn't like Nina either, and we all can probably guess...she was a crazy...crazy woman. The whole...getting it on...with the corner of a table thing...yeah, that just messed me up from that moment on. Like I already didn't like her, but that not only creeped me, it just messed me up. Especially 'cos I was like '....Who...what..Oh its Nina okay well what is she do-OH...OH GOD...'

Suzaku...he had his 'I kinda hate you' moments, but overall I liked him. I just didn't like how much of a hypocrite he could be...or the fact that he seemed to think that Lelouch was just like, killing everybody because he can, he didn't know the real reason for it and quite frankly, it didn't seem like he cared too much. Yet, he was sort of going through the same Lelouch was, as soon as Euphemia died, he was like 'REVENGE!' and thats how Lelouch was, it just took him some time.

Lelouch haters make me wonder though...I dunno, I don't see how you could hate him that much..Dunno...Like, at first he started out really like, good about his idea, 'Okay I'm going to take down Brittania and make it a good place for my sister and stuff' Okay, thats solid...but I think as time went on, all the death and then his Geass and C.C. and stuff, wore on his mind after a while. All the stuff piling up just wore down on him, having to pretend not to be like the worlds most wanted man, then your friends getting messed up, you find out your best friend is piloting another machine that's not only tried to kill you, but ruin your plans and kill everyone else, his mother was killed by his own father and family, everyone thinks he dead. All that kinda stuff, so I guess I cant be mad at him for finally snapping. But yeah...aside from the Emperor, Shirley and Nina...Oh and V.V just for now, 'cos V.V just pissed me off, ruining everything...OH OH OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT...Jeremiah...Oh my god...I wont lie, he's got nice hair..and he's kinda cool looking..but by the last episode I was like 'OH MY GOD SOMEONE, SHOOT HIM, PLEASE?' his constant cries of ZEERROOO made me wanna hit someone...Oranji-kun...crazy freak D: And..Euphemia wasn't too fond of...I didn't like her but I didn't hate her...I wasn't like 'EUPHEMIA I WANT YOU IN EVER EPISODE' but I wasnt like '=D Blow her up please~' But yeah aside from Nina, Shirley, Emperor buttface, V.V. and Jeremiah and a little dislike for Euphemia...I'm okay with everyone..especially Lloyd and Ceile...they made me laugh..and Milly...BUT WHATS GREAT...is I have YET To find ANYONE who hates one of my favorite characters in the entire anime: THE CAT! <33333 (Does that even count as a character though? XD)

I can see why they are alike-unsatisfied and bored hot teenage genius is suddenly granted the power in which they try and change the world around them postively yet ruthlessly using terror for their own arrogant reasons, and the mysterious being that granted them that power loves a certain type of food. But really...that's it.
For one thing, they're different character archetypes. Raito strikes me as "the Dostoyevsky-esque intellectual", in the tradition of Raskolnikov and Pyotor Verkovensky. His desire to prove his own existence and his ideology are what blinds him and drives him, ultimately, to commit such extreme, dangerous acts. On the other hand, Lulu is more of a tragic hero. He can reach the Kira-level of ruthlessness, in fact, he does that lots and lots of times in the series; but he actually retains some of his humanity. He knows some of the things he does is wrong, still feels attatchment towards his family and friends, and he feels regret for his actions. He's also doing this for revenge. The classic tragic-hero-motivation. With the way CG is going right now, it's all one big avenge-fest. Even at the end of episode 23, Lelouch's statements reminded me of this one passage from Macbeth: "I am in blood/Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more,/Returning were as tedious as go o'er."-he's so engulfed in this that he can't get out, and accepts this and keeps going. While that could also apply to Raito, too, seeing as how he would never really consider going back, it's more of a Lelouch thing.
Not to mention that the Geass and the Death Note both are different in how they affect its user...the Death Note is much more detatched. If you ask me, looking someone directly, asking them to kill themselves, and then actually witnessing them doing it is much more intense than writing a name down and hearing on the news that they died of a heart attack the next day.

But even though they are really different under the surface, I admit it's rather fun to discuss...hence my rambling. Even for its comedic value. I SAW A LELOUCHxRAITO FANART ONCE AND IT WAS SO AWESOME AND I JUST WENT ALL FANGIRLY (which, if you know me-and I doubt a lot of people in this comm do-me going into fangirl mode is rather rare :).

BUT. ANYWAYS.
I'm going off-topic.
To answer the question, there's not really any characters I loathe that much...even if I have a "meh" attitude to them, I could usually point out a few redeeming traits that I like about them and appreciate their contribution to the plot.
I understand why some people might not like Suzaku, but when I had entered in the fandom, I never knew there was just so much. [livejournal.com profile] sapphira_angel explained it beautifully. And it's just so interesting to see Lelouch's character and Suzaku's character juxtapositioned together-their actions have more of an effect because they have a foil to build off from, yet there's this realization that their characters are so similar, too. Remember that one episode where they were basically making the same speech in unison, yet alternating?
One of the weaknesses of Geass, I think, is that it has so many diverse characters but yet in its timeframe, doesn't develop every single one of them as much (hopefully we'll see more in season 2!). Lelouch and Suzaku are really the most developed characters of the show, maybe that's why I like them more.

I do like Shirley...not as much as other characters, but I find that arc with her and Mao interesting and touching.

But if I really do have to choose...those people in episode 1 who were gathered around the truck crash. I agree with Lulu: "Idiots." Well, at least they made Lelouch actually play the hero and go into the truck to save them therefore in a consecutive chain of events gets the Geass?

I'm in love with your post and what you said about Lelouch and Raito. Really. Whoever thinks Lelouch is a rip off of Raito has not watched CG past the first episode. Anyway, I've never thought about connecting Raito to Dostoievski's protagonists, but that makes perfect, perfect sense. Lelouch is one of the most obviously Shakespearean characters I've ever seen in an anime, and that's really, really interesting. When I started watching the show I thought he was a huge mix of MacBeth, Hamlet and Richard III, but he doesn't limit himself to that and that is really nice.

...Suzaku rubs me in the wrong way.

The thing is, while I do understand that he's also a quite confused and contradictory character and that his actions weren't because of his meanness, I still can't stand him. I used to like him. But episode 25 just totally ticked me off. I know he's got his reasons, but srsly? Who would you believe, this random kid that popped out of nowhere, telling you about this supernatural power called Geass, or your friend whom you've known since seven years ago? I know he's angered, I know he's very much unhappy and in need of reason, yet, doesn't Lelouch even deserve the benefit of doubt?

Also Kallen. I really like her throughout the series(except for the fanservices), but her reaction in 25 totally disappointed me. Before she was willing to work for this unknown masked man to the extent of doing anything to protect him, yet all that devotion just went poof! Because of what? Because Zero is Lelouch. Her reaction surprised me even more than Suzaku. Suzaku's anger was very much expected(although he IS a bit extreme with the 'ZOMG UR EXSISTENCNE IS WRONG!1!1!!!!1! part), but Kallen? I mean, she and Lelouch weren't on SUCH bad terms. Lelouch likes to tease her, she teases him back. I really can't think of any reasonable explanation for her behavior...except maybe...she remembered the gender-exchange festival. Now that would be logical.

:D;; I don't mean to argue or start anything, but I'll point out that Suzaku was justified in episode 25 because he's suspected all along that Lelouch is Zero. From the start he draws a parallel between his friend and Zero, who rescues him, even if at that point it was a totally innocent and random comment, further evidence clues him in though he chooses to turn a blind eye or have faith in Lelouch. He has been giving him the benefit of the doubt throughout the series. The drama episode also reveals his last-ditch attempt to work things out with Lelouch regarding Euphemia's plan, but Lelouch really shoots him down. By the end, they both have the right to be angry and rash.

...I can't explain Kallen though, I don't think about her nearly as much and her fanservice annoys me. XD; Hopefully she'll pull it together soon.

I don't like Karen or CC. I don't really care about Lelouch either way (but I get a great amount of enjoyment when things blow up in his face).

But the only character I *really* don't like is Nunally. Because she is so. Very. Boring.

When I first saw Kallen..she sorta annoyed me. But as I progessed further in the series I began liking her a bit. Especially since she kicked ass. But then around episode 19 when she solely became Zero only, then I got annoyed at her again. All she seem to do was 'Zero! Zero!' and yap about that. It was really annoying. They don't really explain why she believes in Zero so much. Then in episode 25, when she sees Lelouch she's like 'NO WAY!!' and so shocked. That was kinda annoying as well.. But I don't hate her. I like her at her Ashford Academy times too.

The second character I disliked was Nina. Her..night scene pretty much scared me, but then after episode 21 when she was talking to Euphemia, I felt like 'Hey, maybe she isn't so bad after all. She's pretty cute when she's not going crazy for Euphie'. and then by episode 25 when she pretty much tries to blow the school it was more like pity for her.

Shirley....I didn't like her the first episode but after that I liked her actually. I felt bad for her and wished people would stop hating her so much. She's a pretty deep character and she really cares for Lelouch. However, I think SUNRISE sorta pulled the whole amnesia plot too long...

Diethart...well..he's more like creepy to me. But a nice character to the insane cast of Geass.

Suzaku...believe it or not, I used to dislike him. Well, I liked him, then I disliked him around episode 7-9 since he just seemed...boring. I wanted explanations for his actions, I hate those characters with no explanation for what they're doing, then episode 11 with his daddy trauma first peeking out? I got interested, and by episode 16 I was totally in love with him. He was so in-depth and possibly more unstable in the mind then Lelouch. He's a hypocrite, but so is Lelouch. He's really nice opposite of Lelouch who often shows his darker side and hide his white side. In contrast, Suzaku tries so hard to hide his darker side and show his whiter side. I do admit, I have been frusterated by him and wished to give him a slap to the head, and when episode 25 came out..well..you can say I was really angry to him. What he said was horrible, yes, but if you look from Suzaku's eyes..I'm sure he was pretty much not in the right state of mind by then. Then picture drama 9 came out...and I really loved it. I was glad to know he cared for Lelouch as well.

I don't hate any of the characters really, and I actually love all of them, annoying side and all. ♥

I forgot to add that, if you take the whole Zero, I love you (which is kinda interesting since they overdo it and makes me laugh) that I love Kallen. She kicks ass and she can so totally pwn Zero if she wanted to in a fight. XD; I would hate to see her die.... And I also like the awkward relationship with Suzaku she has. XD;
