Thanks! The way I did it was open the Popotan gif in Adobe ImageReady(mines CS2), all the layers appear, then transfer it to Photoshop(CS2). On the first Popotan frame(make all them invisible except the first) I changed the opacity to like 28%, made a layer on top of it, filled it with white(so when I wanted to look at my drawing I just make the white layer visible). Make that invisible, then another new layer. Then with whatever sized brush(I forgot what I used....5 I think)draw your character over the original (Popotan one), but keep to the body position of the the original.
I did that with every layer, and made the done layers of the invisible when making the next frame.
