Code Geass DS Game Review +Footage

Hey ^^ So I got the Code Geass Game this week and thought I'd give my opinion.
If anyone else has played the game feel free to give your opinions too ^_^

No Major Game Spoilers Minor Anime Spoilers

I play mostly only RPG type games so I was eager to try out the Code Geass game ^^. As RPG's go this game its pretty Ok...I'd give it 6 to 7.
It has nice graphics and the game play is good but as far as the story goes, it would only be interesting to those that have seen the Anime...but that's the games target audience anyway so it doesn't really matter. In some ways it follows the anime word for word and some places they change it a bit...like Kallen and the others meet Zero for the first time at Ashford and not on a train and stuff like that...

You don't have to be fluent in Japaneses to play, tho it helps if you know Japanese on a basic to intermediate level. But since the game follows the Anime so closely, you already know what's going on...

The game is made in away that you get to interact with the story line and characters...

It starts out with you meeting Zero and joining the Black Knights. You choose if your a boy or girl. He'll ask if your name is Tsuki. You can answer Hai (yes) to go with the Default name or Iie (No) and input another name... Zero will talk with you a bit and in the end he'll ask if you understand. You can answer Hai or 'Yes My Lord' xD his response to 'Yes my lord' is more amusing than if you just say yes...after that it basically has the intro to the first ep...and then skips to when Lulu gets his geass power from CC and you go to that whole "Lelouch vi Britania Commands you to DIE!" scene with the guys that all shoot themselves in the head. When Lulu uses his Geass power you can choose what he says from 4 options... I can't really tell if there's a wrong choice or not...it's rather confusing... you can use your voice to call out what he says and it will select it, but you have to know how to read the Japanese to know what to say...so in that case you can just use the touch pad in those situations...

Basically it splices up the anime eps into "missions". Some you can choose and some are mandatory. I'll label them battle missions and story missions. In Battle missions you wander a map to get to a certain point and on the way you can trigger random encounters where you fight. In these missions you're usually with The Black Kights. Some times you wander around as Kallen and Zero will tell you were to go. This is a good way to learn directions in Japanese :D when he says the directions an arrow will point which direction to go...

The story missions are at Ashford and you wander around the campus looking for things or try to meet some kind of objective...you don't fight any battles...you just wader around looking for something or talking to people for info or to get items you need. you're mostly Lulu, but for the "Mao kidnaps Nanaly" mission you go for part of it as Suzaku...

ooh...It's funny. Every time you load your saved game, there's a bit where you can interact with one of the characters. mostly it's Lelouch or CC and they'll be like "Oh it's you! I'm on my way to class...do you like studying?" or something...if they ask questions you can choose from two answers... if they don't ask a question they'll just be like "I'm going now, see you..." and the game will start. The most frequent characters are Lulu and CC, but I've also gotten, Suzaku, Nina, Lelouch as Zero (Without his mask on O.O Kallen must be so jealous xD)and Dedhart (sp?)

Also as you go thur the game you can collect screen shots and set them as your game wallpaper ^^



Here's some footage of me Playing part of one of the battle missions. It's rather ghetto tho xD I just use my regular digital camera and it's a bit shaky since one hand is holding the camera and one had is playing...the beauty of this game and the whole DS game system is that you can play games one handed :D my camera has auto focus so it burs in and out...but it's mostly clear. and I thought I'd be inovative and try out the windows movie maker that came with my computer to add explanations and stuff. nothing too spectacular. Just something to give you an idea of what game play is like...I uploaded it on youtube so the quality may not be great...let me know if you rather me put it up on a download site or something... Ah, and ya, CC lives in the Student event building with Lulu remember ^^ it's on campus...Sometimes she'll be in street cloths (the ones during the Mao arc) and she'll be like "Ah it's you...I'm off to go shopping" or "Do you like Pizza?" One times she was just wearing one of Lulu's white shirts and was all like "I'm going back to bed later" xD

Nina talks to you a bit but is all shy and runs away xD

I planned to get the game(if I get a DS) for Christmas. But I was wondering, is your DS a Japanese one? I read any DS can play Japanese games cause they have no region code thingy. So just wondering. Also love your DS(they customization rocks).

Games will play on any DS so you don't need to worry about regions. .^^

But I bought both my GBA SP and DS in Japan and they play both Japanese and English Games just fine...The cartage games have no region codes

Nah, it follows the anime pretty closely. the story missions just let you wander around Ashford looking for stuff and you can talk to the other students... but that"s about it.

I just got the game yesterday myself and am up to stage 7 or 8. Just died this morning on one of the missions, LoL! I'll make a note to bring all my highest level characters instead of choosing one that's lv. 1.

It's fun saying the Geass commands into the mic. Koko wo toose! LoL. (But make sure no one's around. .^^;) The voice commands for doing combos during battles don't seem to work so great though. I usually end up just touching the screen instead because I get a lot of voice failures even though I clearly say the names. .^^; Ougi! Tamaki! Haha.

I suck at RPGs and this is actually the first console/handheld I've owned. (Just got the DS yesterday too, LoL.) It's hard for me to find where to go around the school and stuff. I like it better when Lelouch/Zero tells you which direction to go. .^^;;

Looks like we'll have to play the game more than once in order to get all the scenarios and wallpapers.

Ya, It's pretty easy...I bought it on Wednesday and I just finished the "Yuffie goes on a Killing spree part..." so I'm almost done with the game...but ya, you'll have to play it again and choose different missions to get all the wallpapers.

I love RPGs...they're really all I play so I can figure things out pretty easy. The problem I've had with playing Games in Japanese is understanding the story...like When I played that FF12 DS game. It was easy to figure out what to do, but I had no idea what was going on story wise xD But with this game, I've seen the anime so I know what the story is already...I'm just like Ah, ok this is that one conversation Lulu and CC have that one time...I know enough Japanese to see they copy these conversations almost word for word xD...

I've done hand helds before...I've had every Gameboy that's ever been made and I'm buying a PSP tomorrow...Gha! There's just too many FF games out for PSP I wanna get...they finally broke me with Crisis Core. ZACK!!!! Plus one of the Characters is modeled after and Voiced by Gackt so I MUST get it *_*.FlamingGacktFangirlWhat? I know when the English version comes out they'll dub over Gackt's Beaututful Smexy voice >_< and PSP's price is finally reasonable. Gah! Why's Sony's crap always so damn expensive XP

Your Gackt-fangirlness reminds me of Ichiki Mitsuhiro. He's a seiyuu, and one of the members of the so-called "Sugita Gumi" (Sugita Tomokazu, Suzuki Tatsuhisa, Hatano Wataru, Terashima Takuma, and Ichiki). Ichiki is a big Gackt fanboy. He talks about him often in his blog, saying how cool he is and stuff, and karaokes his songs. X.D Oh, and the Sugita Gumi often has lil PSP get-togethers where they play Monster Hunter. X.D

Cornelia killed me this morning. .>_> I had a hard time beating Jeremiah/Viletta but managed to, and then it took a while but I was able to beat Guilford and Darlton too, but after them, I didn't have too many items left to heal when fighting against Cornelia. It doesn't help much that she was hitting me for like 700+ each time either. .x_x

Maybe you can help me.... I can't seem to use my skills anymore..... I haven't used any of my power-ups or Tune-ups yet cuz I don't really know what they do. Help? =.( And I'm getting mad at Kallen for firing that missile thing with her Guren Mk. II instead of doing that swipe attack, which seems to be stronger. Is there any way you can kind of choose which one she does? And is there a way to guard or force misses? I just kind of try pressing A when the enemy takes a swing at me. No idea if that actually works or not... And combos! I get the whole pressing L or R when the lil icon goes up and then saying their names. Yesterday when this feature was first introduced, I was able to do some crazy 21-hit combo, but now I can only do 3 (I've switched to just touching the screen since the voice command doesn't seem to be too great at recognizing the names when you say them).

Yeah.... I need help. .T_T


EDIT: (Ah, I love being able to edit comments now.) I figured out how to do skills. Turns out I have to drag them. .>_> Before I was just poking at which one I want and it'd make a sound that sounded like it was an invalid selection. =.( I'm about to fight Cornelia again. X.D

Yup i'm a gackt fangirl...Card Carrying member of Dears X3 WOOT. that was FIRST on my to do list when I finally moved Japan

Ah! Corenlia was so hard it was the first time I got game over by KO in the whole game @_@ I had to keep using that one item that fills your bonus gauge...then I used up all my healing deallys and was in the yellow and barely manged to take out Darlton -_-

Orenji-kun was surprisingly easy... I just filled up all my bonus gauges before the Jeremiah/Viletta and it was no prob...

I finished the main game today on the train ride to Osaka this morining...to me exaclty 3 hours to get from "yuffie killing spree" to the "End" I cut it close cause my battery light was flashing red when it got to the whole Lulu Suzaku confrontation. It held out thur the credits and I got to save so I can play the little bonus chapter....I'm curious about that...but I have to wait til I get back home...cause I didn't bring my charger T_T

Ah! ya I have know Idea what the power ups do...I just gave them randomly to random people

and with tune ups you chooses one and all the people that can change to that kightmare with pop up...choose the person you want to have it and chooses which model you want them to have...you can use the R and L buttons to see what their stats are before and after...

for some tune ups you have switch to one suit before the next level becomes available...if you look at that Chart function on the menu It's show you the order to go in to get to a suit...

I figured out the only way to get the combo attack is doing the voice command...

with the skills you can just poke it, but you also have to poke the guy you want to attack as well or ya, just drag it... but weeee poking people is fun xD

Un, I finally managed to beat her last night but I sort of made the mistake of hiding when the Lancelot was coming after me, so I replayed it again this morning (and beat Cornelia more easily since I knew ahead of time that I would have to beat those two SZs even after beating Cornelia so I didn't get hit as much) and chose to check out Lancelot to get that scene with C.C. giving Suzaku nightmares (pun not intended X.D).

Next is Kyoto!

I wonder.... After you beat the game and have to replay to get all the missing scenes and wallpaper, etc, do you have to start from Level 1 or are your characters at the same level as when you beat the game? I hope it's the latter cuz it would be a pain to have to completely replay the game again.
