Once upon a time in 18th century England, there was a fairly large city-state known as Genanis. It was left alone by the English monarchy mainly because it was very powerful on its own. England was too fearful of Genasis to try to subjugate it, so the citizens were left alone, for the most part. This made it seem very attractive to criminals and other people who were looking to escape harsh English rule, and so many left their homes in England to move to Genanis--but oh how naive they were. The city-state of Genanis is ruled by the kingless Queen Juno. At first, she seemed like a kindly woman. She provided jobs for all of the citizens and offered them protection. However, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Eventually it got to be that she thought of herself too highly. In her mind, the city and its citizens were her children. She no longer allowed anybody to leave the city except her very most trusted servants (to gather food/materials to bring back in), and even had a horrible monster brought in to guard the only gate. As of now, no magic is allowed in Genanis. If you are able to use it, you must hide it. If the queen gets wind of your ability, you will be killed immediately. She has spies everywhere in the city. Even if you think someone is your friend or trusted family member, there's no telling when they could turn out to be a minion of the queen. Not only that, the queen herself is extremely strict even if you do nothing wrong. Monsters are let loose on the city at night and if they find you offensive in any way, you are killed or beaten. Church service is every Sunday morning and if you do not attend, you are killed. All citizens must adhere to Junoism, by the way. Because the city is closed off, finding food and materials for housing is difficult. As it is, you try your best to merely survive. However, fate always has a way to even things out, and as rebellions stir and the queen tightens her grip on Genanis, perhaps the Heavens are no longer on her side, either. It is in this chaotic Genanis that you must live--or try to, anyway.
