Hey guys, let's get some good discussion going here!
I especially want to hear everyone's thoughts on the way Lelouch manipulated Rolo (oh, and I guess that is the official spelling now). Is it not what the majority of us predicted?
Yeah I agree that Rolo had that coming, although I feel sorry for him for falling so deep into Lelouch's trap... :( And the producers had been foreshadowing since episode 1 (mixed wings in the ending theme, Rolo's uncharacteristic reaction when Lelouch tried to take the locket... etc.)
Hmm while it is true that Lelouch does manipulate people he cares about to achieve his ends, he seems to have qualms about doing so. Indeed, Lelouch had planned to manipulate Euphie into shooting him (showing that he did not care about the consequences she will certainly face afterwards). However, what ultimately happened was not his plan and he appears to be deeply traumatized by Euphie's death at his own hand.
As for Suzaku... I think Lelouch cared a lot about him at first, as was shown by the lengths he went to to save him from imminent execution. Once their differences became clear though, I think he kind of grew to see Suzaku as more of an enemy than a friend. This hatred probably escalated when Suzaku refused to help him save Nunally (ep 25)... so I think technically Lelouch wasn't acting against his conscience in shooting Suzaku. :x
And there's also his endless remorse about wiping Shirley's memories. Although I think he ought to be thinking more about Euphie than about that. v_v
It's true, he does seem to have major qualms about some of the things he does. Poor Lelouch... but, I view this as a kind of ultimate sacrifice--he understands he has to give up his own happiness to achieve the desired results, and he doesn't put himself above sacrifice.
I vaguely remember him saying something to C.C. that was along the lines of "I'm not that egoistic, I don't believe I'll be the one to take over the world" or something like that, way back in S1... but I'm sure he also says "I'll be the one to destroy the world and re-create/take over it"; maybe the subtle differences are lost in translation? (I watch the English subs).
xD I think the Lelouch/Shirley fluff is really cute. But the SuzaLulu angst makes me wibble moar In ep 3, when he was all sad over wiping her memories, and he mentioned something about "when this is all over, surely, you..." XDD
Y'know, I thought he was refering to Euphemia as Suzaku's "first love" when I watched the scene where he shot her... @__@
