I totally agree that this scene was probably a warning for Lelouch; that line "i'll be with you forever" can also come off as undeniably creepy in a non-sexual way, but look at the screenshot and tell me that they didn't have fangirls in mind.
Honestly now, anything that's even vaguely gay can be interpreted as fanservice. They know this and they market it big time, as much as they can.
I really don't think that anyone is naive enough to believe that Lelouch and Rolo are going to be happy sparkle sparkle together in the future; it's one of those pairings that's made 100 times more win by the mindfuck, and it's just a matter of interpretation. It's exactly the fact that they handle enimity and relationships in this way that makes it fun to interpret/misinterpret take it how you will.
If you don't see it that's fine, but ignoring posts really isn't that hard. Not every other entry in this community is entirely about LuluRolo even if this one was.
And those trolls failed hard because I died laughing.
Your sentiments make perfect sense to me. The truth is, I can't really disagree with the idea of an enemy, backstabbing ship. If that was how other people were presenting this ship, I might be on board.
But when I see people saying that this scene washed the sour taste of the Kallen/Lulu scene out (I don't ship that either, but I thought it was a wonderful scene for both of them), I just get a little frustrated. The sparkly shoops and adorably fluffy art of Rolo/Lulu is really turning me off of it. I'm really afraid that this is going to lend to the same sort of female-character-bashing that SuzaLulu did last season, and I'm also concerned that it just really doesn't look to me like a majority of the shippers even see the darker note of Rolo and Lelouch's interactions, from their comments on this community.
It's not something that I feel like I can just ignore, necessarily, when people tell me that they're not sure what I'm watching when I say that I just don't see it. When I express that I don't see it, I feel like I get jumped on. I don't mean that I think it's unshippable (I'd be a hypocrite, given some of the of the things I ship in other fandoms), but I simply don't see any hard canon implications of it. I don't think two characters standing next to each other is anything other than fanservice, and I'm not really sure that fanservice is the same as proof that two characters should be in a relationship, not when this show is an overflowing fount of fanservice. If fanservice meant a ship was destined, then half the cast must be sleeping with each other behind the scenes. To be honest, on a fanservice level, I don't think the Rolo/Lulu scene even qualified next to the one it followed, and yet I really don't hear a lot of gushing about that.
And as for Rolo's line, I took it as a reminder of Lelouch's promise, and the line that Lelouch is walking with his lies. Rolo spent most of the episode noticing Lelouch's obsession with Nunnally; if Lulu isn't careful, the only thing he has binding Rolo is going to turn on him, and he isn't going to know until it's too late. But when I see people saying for certain that it was nothing but a declaration of love, that's what turns me off of this whole thing. There's a certainty that the shippers have that this is somehow OTP and OMGCANON, and it's the same feeling I had when I saw people last season claiming that SuzaLulu was for sure going to become canon, and that they'd laugh at all those idiots who shipped a het pairing then.
I recognized at least one of the trolls from the Gundam00 wank, where they were completely hilarious. I don't mean that they're not funny, just that, well, they're not here to agree with the shoop. Why ever else they might have been posting, trolling was one of the reasons, or they'd have posted normal things with their normal accounts.
Erh, i figure just because most of the people around here haven't said anything about the darker side of Lulu and Rolo's relationship, it doesn't mean that they don't see it, or are putting it on the backburner until things start getting interesting again. Admittedly this was a pretty pointless post, but taking a screenshot like that and giggling over it is just some lighthearted fun.
Mmmrh i understand it's irritating for people to call you out about not seeing a ship, but then again even if they crank up the fanservice in Geass, I think there's still some basis for construing a pairing in the actual canon (to a certain extent). Scenes like this make it more "shippable", but to me it's a multilayered relationship, similar to the SuzaLulu one - though less obvious and more manipulative, i'd elaborate on the two but it's nearly 5am here so what i'm saying might not make sense Dxx; Thing is, all the fanservice recently has tended towards the fangirl squealing rather than any mindfuckery or discussion of it. Small things like the way Lelouch has manipulated Rolo's feelings and the way he now treats Rolo are interesting food for thought -- and while the slashy goodness is part of it and kind of reinforces it, the basis is there in the first place for something to be going on. ._. To me the canon fact is that it's a strange perversion of the sibling relationship already, taking it one step further isn't that illogical; especially given the way Lelouch treats Nunnaly at times sister complex?.
I highly highly doubt that Sunrise is actually going to dump a canon BL pairing on us, and god somehow it's ridiculous if anyone believes that they will. :'/
Also, It's true that het pairings rarely get love in geass/ a lot of fandom in general, and while the misogyny is unfortunate, a community full of fangirls can sometimes be like that. I don't know... I can't really comment on character bashing or ship claims because by the time i found this place, the first season had long been over. I did like the Kallen/Lulu scene (esp. since I liked the pairing in S1), but when it comes to fanservice level, the mere fact that they were both boys adds a +10 advantage.
Tbh, trolls like that are not really doing any harm and don't much matter in a spammy manip post like this. I laughed, and the entire thing is for the lolz anyway :S
