I was extremely bored the other day and got to wondering about the school system in Code Geass.
What sort of schooling system do they have in Britannia and it's Areas? Are they all standardised? Or do they just adopt the schooling system of the country that they conquer?
Going by Ashford, I'd say they use the Primary/Middle/High school system, what with Anya wearing the middle school uniform and all (and an extra question; just how old is she anyway? xD). However as far as I know, they haven't really gone into detail about anything below middle school.
Now, I know America uses a similar system, but Geass America isn't our America. Do they use a similar schooling system in Europe? I'm clueless at that end xD However in Australia, we only have two levels of schooling; Primary and High schools. Could it possibly be the same in Geass world, or have they made direct references to the Primary/Middle/High school system? I think it was mentioned somewhere but I can't re-watch it 'cause I lent out my DVDs D=

Also! What age would you say they move from middle to high school? All throughout the first series, Nunnaly is in the pink 'Middle School' uniform; where as Rolo has spent the entire R2 (and even some of the character's flashbacks) in the Ashford boy's uniform. If Lulu hadn't gone through with his Rebellion and life was as normal, would Nunnaly have moved from the Middle School to Ashford? (Again this might have been answered in the actual anime, but I can't re-watch it at the moment D=)
And, is there a minimum age for leaving, or do they have to stay on until they finish High School? I know where I am, only years K-10 are required and years 11 and 12 are by choice only.

I know all of this might seem pointless/insignificant, but it's really got me wondering and I can't stop thinking about it xD

Anya is 14, Rolo is either 15 or 16, I forget. I wouldn't let a 14 year old run around dressed like that...

They probably follow the Japanese grade system where primary school is grades 1-6, junior high is 7-9, and high school is 10-12. So you would enter high school at 15 or 16. Some American schools are like that too. Nunnaly is 15 in R2 and she has a late birthday so I assume that she would normally be in Ashford High School.

lol, wassup immortal

I don't know much about Britannia's school system because I can only recall Cecile mentioning an academy she attended. That was for adults. D:

Anya's PROBABLY 14. PROBABLY. I think at Ashford, the schooling is like Japan's. Which is kind of ironic, seeing as they are very prejudiced.

Probably 16. I think I read somewhere Rolo was 16 and wasn't Nina technically a "freshman" in S1? I remember reading in Fruits Basket that there were only 3 years of high school in Japan, but I might be wrong.

You think of the strangest things though. 8D

just as planned.

Yes. As in she might not be 14 but who knows now.
They have craploads of compulsory club activities that cancel out the education system at Ashford. Why else would Kallen be so dumb and receive top grades there?

Would that make her 18? Also, I didn't know you only had two levels of schooling in Australia.

Name something that just popped into your mind right now. Besides me abusing small text.

Crap. D: I wish my school could bake giant pizzas and actually finish them.

What the--! They are? I am so out of modern times, lol.
THE CHINESE ONE RAWKS. And I don't know why she was wearing the bewb dress.

HEY, I WONDER IF GEASS HAS WAL-MART. They have Pizza Hut. SO WHY NOT WAL-MART? Or Starbucks. Frappucinooooooooooooos...

Hmm... Maybe it's the school has an Elevator system, but I can be wrong.

So far, I've seen the middle school uniform for girls. I haven't seen any boys somehow. In festivals and celebrations we seldom see the middle school students.

Over here in Britain and Western Europe, we have two levels of schooling, Primary and High School. Primary School is P1-7 (ages 4 - 11) and High School is S1-6 (ages 12 - 17-ish). However, the last two years of high school aren't compulsary, but it's still free if you want to stay on.

Well, to be quite honest, we really don't know much about the school system.

The biggest problem is that Ashford is a private academy. We have no idea if there even IS a general public school system. And if there is, we have no idea if it extends to the Areas. And even if it does, we have no idea if the systems would be the same or similar.

But we do know that Suzaku is Lelouch's grade level, and instead of going to school, he had joined the military. This suggests that:
  1. At least the last two years of high school aren't compulsory,
  2. There is no public school system,
  3. The school systems for Britannians and Numbers differ, or
  4. Some combination of the above.

In R1 episode 3, Nunnally mentioned she was only in year two, be it middle or high school, and wasn't on the Student Council although she did attend balls, celebrations, and the like.

Anya is definitely 14. That was confirmed in an Animage or Pash! scan.

I believe Ashford Academy has a school year that runs from Sept-Sept (instead of the usual Apr-Apr of Japanese schools), since Lelouch was born in 1999 and Suzaku was born in 2000, and they are in the same grade.
