what is a geass? (nothing but a miserable cult of keikaku o wait)

Hey guys. Let's talk about cults.

So, I am kind of a dumbass and completely baffled by this Geass cult thing. What...exactly does it do? So far as I could tell it is more or less a place where they obtain kids and raise them with Geasses... But, where do they get the kids? And, where do they get the Geasses?

See, after the events of the last two episodes, I was under the impression that to get a Geass someone had to give it to you, and that person only had one to give. (ie: CC's nun could give her a Geass, but would have to wait until CC died to give out a second...) Am I completely wrong here? Because I am wondering, when they were killing up the Geass cult people, all we saw were scientists and children--no one who was giving out Geass.

So: do 'initials' actually have the power to give Geasses to as many people as they want (implying all those kids got their Geass from VV)? or were the kids engineered in some way so that they were born with Geass? or are letters D through U hanging around somewhere waiting for their kids to die or kill them (implying that Lelouch's plan was not half as successful as he thought)?

I realize I am probably going to be jossed on this tonight when the next ep comes out but for now, any clarification you can give me is appreciated by this (sadly unobservant!) viewer.

You might want to smack me for this because I haven't seen episode 16 (my Internet connection is probably being monitored, last thing they need to see is me downloading anime) yet, but people can give Geasses to more than one person at a time. C.C. had Mao and Lelouch running around at the same time, so I think it's possible that V.V. gave all the little kiddies their Geasses.

Ah, that is true! I...really need to rewatch the first season. Was Mao supposed to be part of the Geass cult though? I got the feeling that Mao just was some kid CC picked up because she felt kinda bad for him and who turned out to be kinda crazy. (DISCLAIMER: I watched season 1 on an ipod with broken subtitles on a 12 hour plane flight. SO.)

You are correct, Mao was just some orphan kid C.C. picked up. Who then proceeded to go batshit and tried to take C.C. to Australia, compact, etc. etc.

Don't worry about it. I RP Mao, so I kind of know almost everything about him by default. *cough* Most people tend to forget he was even in the series.
