And now for something to take minds off the soul-crushing heartache festival that is Episode 18.
コードギアスR2: ばんじょうのギアスげきじょう Anything Goes Post
The .rom's been out for a few days now and some of you've probably had a chance to play around with the game already. Therefore, this post is for sharing anything related to the game that you have to offer! Including but not limited to:
- Gameplay tips and instructions
- Easter eggs and how to get them
- Screencaps/icons from screencaps
- Translations
- Storyline help
- Gameplay mechanics help
- Fangirl/boyish rambles
Etc. Perhaps the most important detail: what on earth is Donjara (どんじゃら)?

Basic Gameplay Stuff (Part 1)
Board Adventure (ボードアドベンチャー) - The 'main' storyline option. A board game where you guide your original character through 31 'days' in Area 11. (More on this later.) You have to play through this at least once to unlock the Donjara and Code Geass Theatre options in the Main Menu.
Minigame Gallery (ミニゲームギャラリー) - Once you've played a minigame in the board adventure (and saved your progress some point after), it shows up in the list as an unlockable. However you need to spend points to unlock the minigames, with different 'prices' for each. You can earn points playing games in here too.
Donjara (どんじゃら) - ...I have no clue. Some kind of... mahjong-like game? Only available after first playthrough.
Code Geass Theatre (こーどぎあすシアター) - Collect special items/tickets(?) from characters you meet in the Board Adventure to unlock 'shows' in the theatre. Only available after first playthrough. (I haven't fully unlocked any yet myself. :()
Download (???) - You can play the minigames against your friends with the DS. :)

Well, the thing is getting three groups of three cards (I don't know what they are so I'll just use "card" xD) of the same kind before the other player does. At the beginning, you have a deck of 8 cards with different characters. You must take a new card each turn and leave another one from your deck (it can be the one you just took). So if, for example, you have two cards of the same kind at the beginning, you should discard the ones you only have once, as you have to make three groups of three as quickly as possible.
The different kind of possible groups are 3 Lelouch, 3 Nunnally, 3 Rolo, 3 Kallen, 3 C.C., 3 Charles, 3 Suzaku, 3 Jeremiah, and 3 cards with a yellow background (for example Gino, Anya and Shirley or Viletta, Diethard and Xingke etc.). So if you have, let's say, 3 Lelouch, 3 Nunnally and 3 Rolo, it's donjara.
There are combinations which give more points though. For example, the one above gets you more points because the three are Lamperouge. There's a list of special combinations at www.geass-game.jp, if you click on the third button inside the DONJARA section (I can't read kanji lol so I don't know what it says).
(Let me send this so I don't lose it and I'll continue explaining now xD)

When you're only one card left from doing donjara, the option "RIICHI" appears. After that, you have to wait until you get the card you need by yourself (by taking a new card each turn and leaving it if it's not the one you need), or if your opponent leaves it you can take it and do donjara to. When you take the last card from him it's called "RON" and if you just get it yourself it's "TSUMO". If your opponent is in RIICHI and you are afraid of leaving precisely the card he needs you should look at the last cards he's been leaving, as that probably means those aren't the kind he needs. So if for example, you would like to leave a Lelouch and a Charles and he just left a Charles, choose to leave the Charles, as it's not the one he needs to make donjara.
...And I think that's it? xD If I left something or if I didn't explain myself probably (-is Spanish D:-) ask away, I'll be glad to help ^^
Basic Gameplay Stuff (Part 2)
C.C.'s voice explains that you (the player) have come from Britannia to be a student in Area 11's Ashford Academy for 31 days. Your fate/path is up to you to decide...
...and with that ominous prologue, everything from here on is pretty much on the silly side.
When you start a brand new game, Lelouch will ask you for your name and gender. Bear in mind that this name will be used for every subsequent playthrough (every time you start another board adventure you'll only be able to choose your gender, so I went with the default name-- "Rai" -- for convenience). You will eventually be given two options:
* Don't need an explanation (of the game mechanics)
* Would like Lelouch to instruct you (about it)
Choose the second and Lelouch will walk you through the details, which are actually pretty simple. Kinda.
I. The Board
The board is basically over the environment of the CG world. The top left bar of the map screen indicates your current area, while the Menu button is tappable at the bottom right.
Move along by tapping the screen to get the dice rolling, then tapping again to throw it. You can stop the dice rolling without throwing it by tapping the Go Back (もどる) button that appears at the bottom right corner.
Landing on character heads gets you into a scene with them (usually leading to a minigame to play, or a question/answer at some point). Landing on pizza boxes awards you an Item. Landing on blank squares may randomly(?) give you an encounter with other characters not necessarily featured openly on the board (e.g. Rivalz, Nina, Milly are a few who do this in the grounds of Ashford.)
Your route often leads to forks. These will eventually bring you to different destinations (e.g. areas within the Academy, the entrance, Shinjuku Ghetto, the Settlement, etc), though after walking far enough you eventually loop back to the same place (where you first start or, if you're wandering through the ghetto to the Black Knights locations, you get an option of heading to either 'school', 'docks' or 'ghetto'.)
II. Menu
- Item (アイテム): Your inventory/collection of stuff you pick up and/or buy with your Points. This includes:
* # Dice Roll (#が出るサイコロ) - Makes your next roll the number #.
* # or @ Dice Roll (#か@が出るサイコロ) - Makes your next roll the number # or @.
* ???(can't read the kanji) Ticket-# (??? チケット-#) - Basically teleporting tickets numbered 01-08. Each type teleports you to the starting point of a different specific area which you can find out more easily if you know moonspeak.
The other items (AFAIK) are related to unlocking Main Menu stuff and so can't be used in the Board Adventure itself.
- Save (セーブ): Save your game.
- Go Back (もどる): Return to the map.
III. Time
Time is of the essence in this game. The number of days left for your stay in Area 11 can be seen at the top left bar on the upper DS screen. You lose 1 day every time you encounter a character head on the board (not sure about the non-visible character encounters), and every 2 or so dice rolls. Yes, even landing on empty squares moves time along, so if you want to get a decent ending you have to make every roll count. This gets easier once you earn more points and start stocking up on various values of Dice Rolls in your inventory
Once the counter reaches 0, the board adventure ends.
I have no idea if an item exists to extend the amount of time you have, but it would be awesome if there were.
Re: Basic Gameplay Stuff (Part 1)
IV. Points
Your current total is indicated at the top right of the upper DS screen. You earn points by winning minigames both in Board Adventure mode and Minigame Gallery. Points can be used to unlock new minigames in the Gallery, purchase vital items like the Dice Rolls and Tickets, and presumably unlocking more extras.
In the course of the Board Game you will run into some characters who are there just to sell you various items (e.g. Nina, Rivalz, Tamaki). Their prices and selections vary from time to time. Generally Tamaki sells you stuff expensively since you're a Buriki. :(
V. L Chart and Relationships
L for Love. Basically the four characters with the highest intimacy levels with your character will be reflected at the top screen. However, this does not mean the person in the top tier will be the one showing up at your departure, so be aware. :)
You build stronger relationships with characters depending on dialogue choices and your performance in their minigames. Win their minigames, relationship improves. Sometimes they will set specific goals to be achieved (a certain minimum number of points, a criteria to fulfill, etc), but all you really need to know is to do your best at each game your 'intended' target character throws at you if you want to get an ending which involves their goodwill.
VI. 31 Days Later
Depending on your intimacy level with characters, the 'ending scene' will differ (usually going with the highest person on the L Chart), but the generic you-haven't-formed-a-good-relationship-with-anyone ending involves Rivalz taking you around the area and then telling you to keep in touch. The End.
Don't get your hopes up too high, though; unlike Lost Colors, this game seems more focused on cuteness and crack rather than anything really serious/romantic. So no awesome CG images, just special voices and talking heads... You have been warned. :)

*SPOILERS*
So I dunno what kind of obsession the game producers have with making Rolo creepy but he's never been like this in the series xD....
There are two different endings, one for male!Rai and another one for female!Rai:
If you play as male:
XD lol this is my fave one from the two. After you get Rolo to fall in love with you (he's so cute when he blushes~ <3), instead of seeing the default ending with Rivalz, Rolo talks to you. He is SMILING and he mentions how a month has gone by already but that you shouldn't worry about having to return to Britannia. Why? ^^ Because... You're going to die in this Area 11 (HELL YEAH THAT'S HOW YOU SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR SOMEONE ROLO). So he kills you with the freaky smile all along and Daichuu's creepy voice acting (XD), and then says something about how your shadow is going to be there forever and help him protect niisan. He also adds that it's not common for him to acknowledge someone's abilities (to protect Lelouch) and then laughs with a CREEPY LAUGH
and NOW he truly makes you think of f. ribbons)If you play as female:
He isn't smiling like messed up in the head (but won't spare your life), and asks you to stay and tells you that he feels something he's never felt before when he is with you (as if he hadn't felt everything that one can feel for lelouch already)... Then you hear a scene with Lelouch reading something in a newspaper about a dead Britannian student, I believe(I'm not so sure about this, never studied Japanese so I can only understand what I've learnt from watching anime), and asks Rolo if that girl arrived at Britannia safely. Rolo answers he's sure she did because he helped her to the airport, and that you're probably at the new school school right now... and adds a "surely" with creepy voice (;D).
Kind of odd that he acts more... emotionally around a girl, considering this is Rolo we are talking about xD I think they should have made both of his endings the same as.... well, he just needs to be loved by somebody, he doesn't care about their gender >> Though this Rolo is pretty OOC all along as... I certainly wouldn't see anime!Rolo joking about playing the whac-a-mole minigame with a knife instead of a toy mallet XDDDDD

(Also completely unrelated but I want to rip the voices from this game yet I've tried dslazy and then ndssndext but there's nothing more than uninteresting sounds ;_;)

I think that whatever tile happens to be the one opened, if you have that tile in your hand and you win the round, then you get extra points. For example, let's say, you have 3 Lelouch tiles and the opened tile in the middle is Lelouch, then you'll get the extra points.
I'm not completely sure if that's what it is, but I always see an extra ”ドラ(???)" thing when I receive points. ^^; I'm not sure if I explained it well enough, but I hope that helped?
