Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block will run the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 sequel series in the United States. The late-night block has been running Bandai Entertainment's English-dubbed version of the first Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion robot anime series since April 26. The 18th episode of Code Geass R2 just aired in Japan on Sunday, and the series is expected to end after 25 episodes in October when the second season of Gundam 00 will take over its timeslot. Code Geass R2 continues the alternate-history struggle between the Britannia Empire and the oppressed "Elevens" of former Japan, after the cliffhanger ending of the first series. Goro Taniguchi is directing the animators at Sunrise on this project with character designs by the popular manga artist quartet CLAMP.

Bandai Entertainment just shipped its first Code Geass DVDs as individually packaged discs, a two-disc set, and a limited-edition set.

Update: Bandai Entertainment noted at Maryland's Otakon event last Saturday that the Code Geass R2 sequel will run on Adult Swim immediately after the first series ends. Thanks, Tenkaido.

I dunno...it seems like part of the fun was the whole gap in between R1's last eps and R2, but whatever.

Aww. That doesn't sound fun at all. There's a reason the season finale was like that, and it was to keep us waiting for R2.

Oh well, nothing can be done, anyways.

So us old school fans can gripe/brag to the dub watchers about how we had to wait 3 months for episodes 24/25 and then another six months for the second season, uphill, both ways.

Though at the same time you do have a point about how the gap between the airings R1 and R2 being similar to the gap in when they actually took place actually worked pretty well for it.

ffff

So we're getting 24 + 25 and immeditely following up with R2 1 the next week? At least wait a week or two for people to feel the tension of who got shot. We waited about two years for the results, and Adult Swim watchers will only wait a week.

You spoilsports, Bandai.

Actually, we waited less than a year - R1 ended July 07 and R2 began April 08.

Durp, haha, I just realized that when I posted it. But still, we had to wait longer for the actual thing.

That's too bad.. the gap felt long, but it didn't feel out of place as some time went by in the actual events in Code Geass after the cliffhanger. =\

I don't watch the dub since I don't have the channel (more or less no bought channels which I can live without) so I don't know whether the tension can easily be alleviated to a "a year passed." I figure at least a week's worth of waiting to get some rapid speculation (amongst those who chose to only follow the English installment and not spoil themselves or anything... if there's people like that) and to ease the tension.

Awww, part of the fun was anticipating and laughing and fangirling over scans and bits of info in the lead-up to the second season.

It's kinda sad that dub watchers won't have to go "......WHAT. :O" at that bitch of a cliffhanger. Instead, it'll be "SUZAKUUUU! LELOUCHHHH! Oh hai new characters! (plus a character about-face in Suzaku)"

Granted, I have little room to speak, since I watched all of the first season in one go during New Year's...

Though I wish it would keep us waiting a little, 'cause usually Season finales are supposed to, I'm glad because this means that they're not waiting to licence the rest of the series and therefore aren't likely to change actors. Even if the dub sucks (I actually don't think CG is that bad a dub XD) I like consistency. Nothing irks me more than when actors are changed partway through a series.

It makes me sad the dub watchers won't get to enjoy the same 'alsdkfgsjdhlkhas;' reaction the rest of us had.

And it almost makes me feel sorry for them that they can only watch one episode per week; so if they're not out searching for subbed torrents, they're all going to be flipping burgers when the lest few episodes are out and they're all full of tension at what's going to happen. Hell, I wonder how many of them even know there's a second season to follow this one.
Of course, there's just something amazing about being able to watch five episodes per night and finish on the weekend the second episode of R2 is released. Muahahaha, that was an great time to jump in.

What? We waited through months and months of agonizing torture, and the dub watchers only have to wait a week!? That's not fair!
Date/Time: 2008-08-14 19:20 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] spleener.livejournal.com
Well, we still got to watch it a year before they did. And will be 6 months ahead of them on R2.

Now I'm curious as to who'll be added to the cast for the English version of R2.

Come on. Half the fun of R2 was waiting for it.
Date/Time: 2008-08-14 20:58 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] mossygirl.livejournal.com
Ha ha, even though I know I got to die a little every day enjoy the wait for R2, I have several friends who started off late and got to watch R2 right after, so it's not like this is the first time this has happened.
Date/Time: 2008-08-14 21:01 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] kankiin.livejournal.com
Agreed with everyone else. Waiting for R2 was half the fun. Some of my best memories from the fandom came from that year wait, sadly enough. Waiting for magazine scans, spazzing about everyone's new outfits...

Besides, a cliffhanger like that NEEDS at least a few weeks for people to get pumped up for the next episode. I mean, it kinda kills the drama to release the next episode right after it >___>
Date/Time: 2008-08-14 22:06 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] powercorrupts.livejournal.com
I have to disagree with everyone else, I'm afraid.

I think part of the reason so many fans ended up disappointed with R2 was the wait. After a year of no Geass, people's expectations had built up to a level that the show simply couldn't provide. Dub fans might find themselves less frustrated with the beginning of R2 than the sub fans.
Date/Time: 2008-08-15 12:26 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] sevoth.livejournal.com
That's true. I remember when R2 started airing and everyone was "Everything's been reset?! Really? We waited all time so you could memory wipe the whole goddamn first season?! WELL, FUCK YOU SUNRISE!"

Although at the same time, the cliffhangers at the end of 23 and 25 might feel very off if there wasn't a wait for them. Especially 25; you have that insane amount of dramatic tension and it's all released the next week. What a waste.

So soon?

ROLO.

SO GUYS. WHADDYA THINK? ARE THEY GOING TO CAST A DUDE OR A CHICK FOR HIS VOICE? I know if it's a guy, they're going to make his voice too deep. ;-;

Also, am I the only one who's eager to hear V.V? I mean, I love his Japanese voice... it makes me have orgasms of joy. I'm afraid they won't be able to match up...

But the lack of cliffhanger is gay. No fun. >: I also wanted time to slip subtly into the voice acting industry...

Although I think his voice is a little too deep for Rolo now XD

The sad thing is that I'll miss Rolo's 'Nii-san'

Oh, y-you're right ;o;

I suppose we'll have to get used to "Brother"...although it's not that bad since I'm used to it from FMA :]

Yes, I was totally thinking him. But doesn't he work for Funimation?

If only this was a few years earlier... he's like fifteen now, right?
Date/Time: 2008-08-15 22:26 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] faye-naruse.livejournal.com
Yeah, although some voice actors work for multiple companies, so it's hard to say ^_^;;

Something like that :3 So young!

I'm pleased that they'll be releasing it right after, I can't stand the wait, if anyone watches Battlestar Galactica you know what I mean.
Date/Time: 2008-08-15 02:36 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] flow.livejournal.com
Where does it say it will air immediately after? It just says they will air it, it doesn't specify when, as far as I can see. The "immediately after" part was only stated by the person who posted this post.

From the Bandai Entertainment - Otakon 2008 article:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/convention/2008/otakon/bandai-entertainment

"In addition to the DVD releases, Code Geass is currently airing on the Adult Swim cable block. Its second season will also be shown on Adult Swim, immediately after the conclusion of the first twenty-six episodes. The cable broadcast of Rocket Girls is being handled by ImaginAsian TV."
Date/Time: 2008-08-15 03:07 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] glenngunnerzero.livejournal.com
Ha I marathon season 1 a week before R2 began. I would've hated waiting months for finishers back then. Closest thing I've experience was the DVD release dates for Kara no Kyoukai.
Date/Time: 2008-08-15 08:19 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] furato.livejournal.com
Same, except it's two weeks rather than one. I think that there is fun in the wait, but not a year of wait. Perhaps one month is more like it, but Adult Swim has to think of what to fill the time slot. I guess between immediate sequel and one season of another show, I'd choose immediate.
Date/Time: 2008-08-16 17:50 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] neko-astrid.livejournal.com
yeah why does it sound like all of us devout jap version fans are getting cheated...we
waited months for the second season, but they get right after they finish airing the first...WTF?
