Admittedly, that was a bit sad, but it's not enough.

I was actually looking forward to having the pleasure of seeing Lelouch kill Rolo himself.

He killed Shirley.

He was going to kill Nunnally.

He probably would have killed everyone else.

He's a clingy little bitch.

He wasn't really Lelouch's brother, yet he deluded himself into thinking that the fake memories really meant something.

And now I hate him since Lelouch didn't get the chance to personally snuff his life out.

yeah, but those guys don't annoy me. Rolo did.

Oh gosh, did. It's awesome how I can say that now \o/

Plus it was funny to see him get manipulated by Lelouch.

I hate to say this, but just because he had a "tragic" childhood, doesn't mean everyone has to like him.

If you want to use tragic pasts as explanations for actions, well... Lelouch watched his mother die and saw his sister become an invalid. THAT'S also traumatizing and sad. Suzaku killed his own father; and of course he has a sense of what's right and wrong but he still wants to justify a horrible act like that. Lelouch wants to find out the truth and get his revenge. And yes, he also has a sense of what's right and wrong -- that's probably why he can rebel against Britannia. In his mind, this is "right". I think both, while their actions are despicable, can be excused. Rollo can as well, of course. You have a valid point, after all, as I just proved. He doesn't know "right" from "wrong".

[livejournal.com profile] amachizzle happens to dislike him. I'd suggest just accepting that some people don't like your favorite character and getting over it, or you'll find yourself in roundabout conversations a lot.

I'm not trying to defend anyone here -- all three have done horrible, horrible things. Hell, I don't like either Lelouch or Suzaku. It's just that disregarding things that happened and attempting to make it seem like Rollo's past is THAT much more tragic doesn't seem right. Rollo gets to be oblivious to right and wrong, Lelouch and Suzaku don't. They get the pleasure of knowing, at the end of the day, that they're doing a lot of wrong and atrocious things. Rollo gets to believe he's protecting his "nii-san." Which is a lot sadder, but probably a lot more enjoyable since it's a delusion.

But this tl;dr and I'm sure most people stopped reading so I'm gonna end this with Bibiddi Boppity Boo and leave it at that. : 'D

no, you're awesome :)

I'm pretty sure they did, actually. A vast majority were sad after she died, but you always have those Negative Nancies. Some people are just a little more blunt with their opinion, I guess. Aaand, I apologize in that case. It is late, so that probably went over my head. :D;;

Aha, no not really... arguing, to say. I was just trying to state that the same point could be said for Lelouch and Suzaku. It's just I find it a bit hypocritical, no offense, to excuse one character and then stigmatize another when they're basically about even. But yeah -- it's a key part of his personality. I won't say it's not a damn good excuse either, because it shaped his actions in a big way. And I admit, even if I don't care for him, Rollo was a very tragic character because of his past. I understand what you're saying and agree with it, I just wanted to say it's kind of like running in a circle to argue with someone about a character they dislike with flimsy reasons that can be applied to several other characters, especially when you're using them as an example. XD; See, I'm giving advice on how to correctly shove your opinion down others' throats! I'm revealing secrets I shouldn't be! :X *brick'd*

Nah, you got it. Keyboard buttons are just fun to push after three am for me. ;D

But again, sorry for getting for all muddled there. Didn't mean to twist your words or anything! ♥ I guess it's just too late/early for me as well. XD;;

Ohh there were plenty of people in Shirley threads that were, "Whoo-hoo" She even has a hate club on My Anime List. They were mostly ignored, and never as well reasoned as amachizzle. most just found her annoying, or belittled the importance of the character. No one's calling Rolo "useless" or killed because he'd "outlived his service to the plot" or even "crap death for crap character". Man did those irk me. At least we have decent reasons to not like Rolo.

So as someone who can appreciate hales position as one shaken up by a characters death (in my case Shirley)being peeved by naysayers, trust me when I say that amachizzle has nothing on the mean-spirited bastards that spit on her grave, even if you didn't notice them.

Gaspingly is awesome for understanding this situation.

As for me, I'll admit to never liking Rolo. That apathy turned to hate after what he did to Shirley. Especially given that he did so out of jealousy, then lied at how it was to protect Lelouch. While I can sympathize with the want of a family, I have no love for someone who would destroy that which his loved one holds dear just because all eyes must be on him. Chalk it up to not knowing better, but it's hypocritical to talk about how much he loves Lelouch then kill anyone that acknowledges the lie (especially when doing so hurts the one he loves).

So I agree that I would've loved if Lelouch had killed him by his own hands. I've even imagined fanart of such as it's good drama. I didn't like Lelouchs human bomb bit and Sunrises heart failure. Having hiom die by his own hands is a bit cheap.

That said, the execution was much better than I'd feared. I actually wasn't as overjoyed by his death as I thought I would be. Maybe he redeemed himself a bit, I won't know until I see subs. I know one guy thought it unfair to Shirley, like Lelouch had forgotten. Maybe. Though it seems more akin to circumstace. That and Shirley wouldn't want revenge.

So while I hated the character, it was a bit sad to see him done in, and I was so peeved that it wasn't by Lelouch. He can't get his revenge anymore, but maybe Rolo made up a bit for it. Heck, had he not killed Shirley, I might have cried. (or maybe had I not watched it raw and gotten more than just the gist of what was happening ^_^)
