R2 episode 21 thoughts

From the look of things, most people in the fandom are ok with Suzaku now and have spontaneously dissolved their almost universal hatred of him as long as Lelouch accepts him (to use him). Is this why some people stopped hating Rolo when Lelouch finally accepted him when he died? Do we all really have our own steadfast opinions of each character in the show or do we just go with Lelouch's flow whatever it may be? I'm not suggesting that we should hold lifelong grudges against anyone and stubbornly hold on to certain impressions, but it helps to look back and see if our changes in opinions are sometimes a bit too whimsical, not to be critical or anything. =)

Well, I always like Suzaku and Rolo, so it never mattered to me. XD

Still, I agree, our fandom is too bipolar, depending on whether or not a character is mean or nice to Lelouch depends upon how many people like said character.

Same here... I even hated Lelouch in some parts, even if he is my favorite character. But I've always liked Suzaku, Rolo and Lelouch ^_^.

Plus Orenji and Clovis-sama!!! I'll like them no matter which side they are D:!!!

As long as people stop hating on characters, they can switch opinions all they like. I'm a little shocked that it's happening after the end events of this episode though...

You could be right. But I've always disliked Suzaku and Rolo, and still do.

I still don't like either Rolo or Suzaku. I mean, yes, I found Rolo's death really moving, but it didn't change my opinion of him at all. And as for Suzaku, I didn't like him first season because he was so naive, but I respected him for the way he clung onto his ideals, which he gave up in R2, which really annoyed me. So, I think it's cool that he's doing things because he believes it's the right thing to do again, rather than just the ends to justify the means.

I have no problems with the ends-to-justify-the-means method, just as long as the character sticks to their guns when it comes to their own personal morality. Straight off the bat, Lelouch pretty much through morals out the window for the sake of victory and Suzaku just sort of became a hypocrite, giving up his way of doing things when it became too hard.

Oh, I love this discussion idea!

Anyway... Yeah. I never liked Suzaku or Rolo and I still don't. So no problems there. Shirley as well. I never liked her character and even though she died and Lelouch loved her, it doesn't make me not like her. I was sad she died, but not too devastated.

I did actually start to dislike CC during her whole "slave girl" phase. I think if she had stayed that way, she would've been my least favorite character whereas with her personality now, she's my favorite.

The only single character I've liked consistently has been Kallen.

IAWTC. Even dear Ougi has let me down sometimes whereas Kallen always seems to do what she feels is morally right. She's well-balanced in the way that she won't let anyone treat her badly, but also doesn't jump to unfounded conclusions.

You're probably right. Today, as an example, I saw some 'Suzaku is awesome' through the internet. Even though on 18, and a lot of other episodes, everyone wanted to burn him alive. Dx Meh. I'm a Lulu fangirl on ridiculous levels, but it didn't really interfere on what I think about the other characters... Who knows.

I was hopin' da same...and I don't care if Rolo was not suppose to exist on the series although I LOVE HIM *-*, But the same here..I hate Suzaku in R1 and I still do..so my opinion doesn't change at all..I don't get the LuluGeasseffect upon Characters..

I don't care if Suzaku joins Lulu..I still hate him LOL..
I love Rolo from the beginning' he was my sweet-o uke baby and I love him even more when he killed Shirley (for god..sake I want to do the same xD! she was annoying and unnecessary)

...kind of. My dislike for Suzaku was mainly fueled by the fact he kept getting in Lelouch's way. I don't know about Rolo. It's was hard for me to like him because he just wasn't Nunnally, which is how Lelouch saw him. He ended up growing on me, which meant of course, that he would die. Whenever I finally start liking characters they die. :\

Well... I've held to wavering between pity and love for Suzaku... even during the betrayal of Lelouch in the beginning of R2, I never flat-out hated him (because I believed him to be completely mad with grief), and my love for him re-developed around episode 8 of R2, when he gave his little speech to Zero and stopped Romeyer from shooting into the crowd. I admire Suzaku for his value of human life, which is unique in Geass, so naturally the post-fleija/freya Suzaku did upset me a lot, but I'm happy that he and Lelouch have at least reconciled enough to team up for a bit. I'd love most to see a full explanation between them about Euphie and at least some semblance of a friendship again... but given how Geass has been going I won't get my hopes up.

As far as Rolo... I really loved him up until he shot Shirley and planned to kill Nunnally-- and then I wanted him dead. What partially restored my liking of him was how he died-- there was a lot of redemption in going out like a hero for Lelouch even after Lelouch's tirade. (Actually, I wish that Sunrise hadn't given him such a heroic, tragic ending, because in spite of bawling my eyes out during his death, I never truly forgave him for everything...)

I really hated Shirley at first, but conveniently just before her death she started to mature, and I really came to like her. Her last line to Suzaku especially made me really attached, so seeing her die just after it crushed me...

well yeah. i think it's safe to say that everyone relates with and supports lelouch in some manner, and their hatred for certain characters stems either from a) them standing in the way of lelouch's goals or b) killing off another beloved character. primarily A. so as soon as suzaku or rolo comes through for lelouch in a big way, it's okay to drop the grudge UNLESS there's still some linger butthurt over another dead character. suzaku never killed anyone of note (besides nunnally? i guess i'm surprised lelouch was able to forgive him) and rolo killed shirley (whose fans were the only sizeable group of rolo haters).

loool, I don't like Suzaku, but he's one of my favorite characters. That makes a lot of sense, I know, but it's just how it is.

I'VE ALWAYS LOVED ROLO<3

idc what Lelouch thinks.

I've never really hated any character, though there certainly are characters that I never cared too much for, i.e. Nina and Rolo. In general, characters that are "unlikable" in this series tend to fall into two categories for me: 1) sympathetic (i.e. Suzaku), and 2) not worth my time (i.e. Luciano). Then there's Nina who I want to give my sympathy to, but the story refuses to give us any backstory. -_-

If anything, I came to like Rolo more when he died NOT when LELOUCH accepted him but when ROLO accepted himself. I go gushy for self-affirmation.

I still dislike Rolo even after the completely magical unicorn death they gave him. I'm not sure Lelouch would have been so kind had he known that Rolo was prepared to kill Nunnally too. It sucks that Rolo was used as a child and trained to be an assassin and all that jazz, but ultimately people have choices and he made his; therefore I give him none of my sympathy.

As for Suzaku, at this point he is just trying to find ways to fulfill the wishes of those whom he loved. Since everyone in the series has lied it makes sense that he would waver back and forth between hating Lelouch and wanting to help him. Certainly have been frustrated with the character but :/

Agreed on all pints here. :O Rolo was being used, yeah, but he could have avoided it or just been like C.C and said "fuck this, I'm out."

I've always hated Suzaku-butts, and loved Lulu, even when he was at his most insane.

So..when he sided with Lulu in the end, wll, i didn't really care, cause suzaku is a whiny brat. XDD

Hmmm, thats a nice analysis.

It never really had to do anything with Lelouch for me. Hes always been my favorite character, but I've never really hated any of the other characters. Even Nina I can't say I really despise, just the fact she was so naive.

I only really disliked Suzaku's and Rollo's actions. I always thought Suzaku was doing things wrong this season, but I never stopped liking him. I always held that little hope that maybe, just maybe, he would come to his senses and start doing things right. I also like Rollo, I just hated that he killed Shirley for such selfish reasons, even though I really didn't give about Shirley. But I was still sad when he died helping Lelouch like that.

Lelouch accepting them both was just a perk.

I don't really care about any particular character besides Lelouch. I've always like his character although i might feel a bit uneasy when he went insane. That's why I will accept any other characters whom he comes to trust and love. Suzaku is the only exception here. No matter how many times I want to kick his ass, I've always been a Suza x Lulu shipper.

I wondered that too. But is it like that for most anime, where liking a character depends on the main character's view of them or is this just a Code Geass thing? CG is one of the few shows where I'm actually looking at the fandom at the same time the series is airing.

For the record, I never hated Suzaku but I never liked him really until episode 18, believe it or not. Not because "YEAH HE KILLED NUNNALLY FUCK YEAH" but because I just felt so bad for the guy, so that pushed him from "meh" territory to a character I like.

And I always loved Rolo, so... psh, to be honest, he could have killed Nunnally and I'd STILL like him. I have a thing for characters like him and the fact he wasn't supposed to exist anyway makes me like him even more. 8( *sigh*

Then again, I am also probably one of the 5 people in this fandom who really can't stand Lelouch (I started watching the show when R2 started to air and that was because I wanted to know more about Rolo. I actually only watched R1 so I wouldn't be "one of those fans" and because I liked Mao. 8| Do you see where this is going?), so that probably has something to do with it. Ahahahaha.

I noticed that too. I never really liked Rolo and I cried when he died but it was more of a "Poor Lelouch didnt get to kill him himself!" type of deal. I have always liked Suzaku more than Lelouch, not exactly sure why :(

Rolo deserved worse than what he got imo! I am whole heartedly expecting Lelouch to die and cant see it as a bad thing :Q

I've always liked both Rolo and Suzaku, so Lelouch's opinion on them doesn't influence me much. I want to believe that my opinions in general are largely independent, in fact. But you do have a good point here!

I keep thinking Suzaku choices weren't the best and I still hold some sort of grundge ( never totally hated him nor I like promoting hate even towards fictional characters lolz ) but the way he finally...understood, so to speak, and sided Lulu ( how it was supposed to be since the very start lol ) might indeed absolve most of the fandom disliking him.

>_> just my thoughts. Nevertheless he won't turn into a favorite anytime soon nor i will forget how his character developped along the series. however, as the story itself is centered about Lulu there's no absolute way to actually now what has transpired in the backstage ( again so to speak ) and know all of Suzaku's mind patterns... mm... so in the end we're left with Lelouch POV thus, if he accepts/uses him in a conveniant way...i don't think fandom is going to complain :P!

I liked Rolo from the start (though it took a downturn at the peak of his obsession -- Shirley's death), but my feelings for Suzaku have always been kind of complex. I've never hated him, but even when I adore him it's partly because he's so screwed up (see also: Lelouch, Rolo). Honestly, him being on Lelouch's side suddenly freaks me out. I was cheering when they almost reconciled before, but this feels off somehow. Post-nuke!Suzaku is kind of a scary person; but even so, I'm fascinated by him.

Rolo was never really more than a plot device in my eyes, so I neither hated nor loved him. As for Suzaku, I was pretty "meh" with him until he reached his hypocrite phase at the end of the first series, but it's somewhat subsided...though I still gain joy from watching him get kicked around (a la 99-hit combo). Still, I've never gotten to the point where I've outright hated him. I just express extreme frustration over his character at some points. ^-^""

Like anything else, opinions change depending on a lot of factors. With Geass, my opinion changes based on the characters changing, and whatever kind of different pieces of backstory we get in each episode.

Take Marianne, for example. I was always "BAAAW" over her trying to protect Nunnally, but after ep 21 of R2, my opinion about her changed because of the new information we were given. Now I would like to punch her. And unless I hadn't seen episode 21, I would have bawed over that gd scene with her, Nunnally and Lelouch forever.

I'm pretty bipolar with character selection, but there are some characters that I love no matter what. Still, it all has to do with the above mentioned, at least for me.

I never hated Suzaku, but I did find him annoying at times...right now he's less annoying, which is good, but it's hard to tell what will happen from now on.
