Xingke's been coughing up blood practically since he first appeared..what does he have actually?People seemed to have forgotten about that though..does it hold any significance?

He has tuberculosis. It's a pretty fatal disease...especially since he's in the stage of actually coughing up blood. Not to mention it's highly contagious, which apparently does not apply to animes, because honestly everyone around would have it by now.

i now know two popular characters who have tb: xingke and ukitake from bleach. does that mean that:

fact:anime!tb is non-contagious?

Possibly. Also Okita Souji from Peace maker kurogane has it as well...I guess anime producers just feel that if they actually made the disease life like and based more around reality then basically everyone around that person will die or eventually get the disease which makes for an unhappy ending ): Might as well not even use the disease imo.

I guess if you want significance it's pretty prevalent in poor countries. Like 40% of the world has it in some form. For the most part it's also very treatable. And contagious (but as fish said, doesn't apply to anime!)
