Well beside wings (angel's = purity ; eagles' = power (roman empire) and the eye (god's eye ; the Providence eye ; the eye of the Master (La Fontaine) = the eye of the one who controls everything) ; which are both very commonly used symbols in both fashion (for wings, see Napoleon's, Cesar's clothes) and painting (for eye : Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen's painting) when it comes to power ; I don't see anything.
I didn't read Dune, sorry. But my guess is that Clamp use judeo-christian references ; I didn't said it first because almost everything in occidental culture comes from the Bible and Greek Mythology so it's nonesense in the end. You can always see much common points between two stories or two caracters (or even two fashion senses in Lelouch's case XD) and I understood since long that Taniguchi was someone with huge knowledge ; I can see myself many references to the Age of Enlightenment in CG and most of all to "Candide" by Voltaire. For example, Lelouch, as Candide, has been confronted with many utopies, and rejected them all because they were tyrannical ; also, Lelouch (if he's proved to be alive and well working in a farm) ended up just the same way as Candide : in a farm, working to make his life bearable. I could find many other examples, but one thing is certain : Taniguchi read many Lumières books. (Sorry my english is crap ^^;;;)
Oh yes you're right *_* Now that I think of it Hiromu Arakawa also used the eye of Providence in FMA, when the Door of Truth opens up. In the end, it's almost overused XD
I KNEW I was onto something when I imagined Paul as Lelouch. Haven't actually read the whole thing yet, so I have no idea what happens to my Orange! Gurney and Nunnally Alia. C.C. Chani kicks the bucket, I believe.
well, the ending of Leto the Second(son of Paul) is the 100% same as Leluoch. I don't have original of Dune, but it's like "The emperor died, following the example of Leto Second, the God-Emperor of the Universe, Tirant, called worm, which led men to the Golden Trope and saved humanity, printed in the history of worst tyrant teaching people the final lesson." I just matched them up really for a physical counterpart, I don't really go by personality for them. That's why some books are an insane jumble of characters when I read them.
I just imagined the Baron looking like either his movie counterpart, or the Spirit of the Harkkonen from Hellsing. ._.
