Actually, if reminds me of Lulu to C.C., if anything. "Though I still can't understand the meaning of eternity"? This is what she understands but he doesn't, and part of what he needs to come to terms with if he's going to choose her.

Song's pretty perfect for the one occasion it was used in, though.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't? Look at "Stories". It plays twice that I remember offhand. One is during the Suzaku/Euphie moment in 5, the other is the Kallen/Zero moment in...I think it's 12. It's the song between knights and masters, you can say.

By the same logic, it wouldn't be a stretch to say Masquerade might have been a song for Lelouch--->his precious person. Doesn't exactly matter who. It worked back then because...well, if LL realizes Shirley is his precious person, it's a bit too late. Thus the song is annnnnngsty because it can't be real. It may play again for someone else later.
