Why yes we are a poll. And yes I do live here. After reading something [livejournal.com profile] verity_isle said about people watching Geass for the lulz only and following most of the anime blogs, I asked myself why I watch Geass. I realized the answer has changed from the time I started watching the series to just after the Mao arc, when Geass suddenly became my *show* as I once viewed my other fave Naruto. So as usual, I have two questions to pose:

1. Why did you originally start watching Geass? When might be cool to know too since I know we have people here since October and others who recently marathoned the whole thing. It seems to me when a person started watching Geass partially determines the why.

2. Why do you stick with Geass AKA what do you love about it?

For me, I started with Geass sheerly because 1.)it was Clamp, 2.)Lelouch looks like Kamui and 3.)I love Kamui no matter what hell he puts me through. I did originally just watch it for the WTFery, although I always adored Lelouch. Now I admit I'm into the political intrigue and just how Lelouch is going to screw himself deal with things next. I might add more to this later but I'd rather hear some others first.

1) I started in November because CLAMP + Mecha seemed to be an intriguing combination. Also, I thought there was a 100-1 shot for Lelouch/Suzaku from the plot description (those odds seem just about right at this point, in my estimation.)

2) I stayed because the series is great. If the 2006-07 anime season were college basketball players, Death Note would be Greg Oden (lots of awesome to start, has kinda peaked for now and I wonder how much better it can get) and Code Geass would be Kevin Durant (has been very good so far, unlimited ceiling to how good it could end up being).

What is so great about Code Geass? Lelouch, first and foremost, is a fantastic character. I liked him even before he got his Geass power. I liked him more after he had the Brittanian soldiers blow their brains out. I liked him even more as he messed with people to keep up his facade as a normal (slacker) high school student. The stunt with Karen in the bathroom was pure brilliance. Not to mention his experiments to see exactly what he can do with his new power. He's knows what he wants to do, he's smart enough to know how to do it, and he will do anything to get it done (blow up a ship and blame it on Brittania to further his goals? Brilliant!).

Then we have the ol' punching bag, Suzaku. The more I watch, the less I like him. I still defend him as a character whose story is incomplete, but I'm seriously annoyed by him. I used to ask "What is it going to take for him to see that Brittania is just using him?" Well, I think he already knows that, but he just doesn't care. He has a death wish from killing his father. He feels that guilty about it. That's why he doesn't want a war, then he would have killed his father for nothing. All his guilt and angst over the past seven years will have been for nothing.

(WARNING: BOYLOVE RANT AHEAD! If I were writing this, I think I'd have Suzaku find out that Lelouch is Zero pretty quickly. Lelouch would try to convince Suzaku to join the Order of the Black Knights, Suzaku would refuse, with his old "you can't win using the wrong methods" bull****. Lelouch would see through it, scene goes something like this:

Lulu: Wouldn't you be happier fighting on the with all your friends?
Suzu: I don't deserve to be happy after killing my father...
Lulu: Yes you do! I... I want you to be happy... *hugs Suzaku*
Suzu: But...
Lulu: "But" nothing... *kisses Suzaku*

End scene. Suzaku then joins Lelouch to open up an industrial strength can of whup-ass on Brittania. But, that's just me. And the rest of the Lulu/Suzu fans.)

Ahem, back on topic. I like the rest of the cast, especially Lloyd. Lloyd is the kind of person I'd like to have a beer with. Kinda crazy and smart as hell. Although, Rivalz is currently battling Shippo of Inuyasha as the "Most Useless Character... Ever". So, that is one thing against Code Geass.

Finally, the show's story has nearly unlimited potential to how good it could be. On top of the military story with Brittania, there's the Geass thing. Who is CC? What is up with those weird alien-looking people? Is Nina going to develop a nuclear bomb? Is this all an elaborate scheme by the Emprorer? Oh, and don't forget Orange-kun.

One season, my ass.
